Brandon Marshall Traded To Dolphins

According to our associate, Aaron Wilson, over at the National Football Post, disgruntled wide receiver Brandon Marshall has been traded by the Denver Broncos to the Miami Dolphins. The deal was for the Dolphins 2010 2nd round draft pick and reportedly their 2nd round pick in 2011 as well.

This seems like a relatively steep price for Marshall, considering that while recently traded Santonio Holmes, who went for a fifth rounder is certainly no Brandon Marshall, you might have expected Marshall's value to drop significantly from the first rounder tender that the Broncos originally placed on him.

Now Miami has their own weapon to compete with the other big name wide receivers in the AFC East, specifically Randy Moss in New England and Braylon Edwards along with Holmes in New York. Once again, how does this deal upset the balance of power, not only in the division but the conference as well? Probably not enough to vault the 'fins to the top of the heap, but it certainly should improve their passing attack if, and only if, second year QB Chad Henne, improves as well.

With three picks in the first two rounds....

something tells me the Broncos are looking for a new, big wideut and it seems that either Dez Bryant or Demaryius Thomas fits the bill, or the Bronco!

Hopefully not Dez

I am still holding out hope that he drops, and the broncos dont pick him because of the character issues.

Nice Pick up for Miami, they’re an up and coming team.

Still got two tougher teams

to jump ahead of them, plus they have to play the AFC North this season. Therefore, more losing before winning there.

I think....

Marshall was a solid value if they lock him up longterm, although he can get in alot more trouble in Miami than in Denver. This makes our Boldin trade look like we got a very good deal IMO. If Boldin is worth 3rd and 4th, than, I think Marshall should be worth about 2nd and 4th, but Denver was able to get 2 2nd’s. Good for them. Solid value, but I am still happier with our Boldin acquisition. Most I would have given for Marshall is 2nd and 4th, but I still think this is a solid move for Miami too…

Wonder how much money he will get in his extension?

by Rayisyourdaddy on Apr 14, 2010 10:56 AM EDT reply actions

10 million / year, 30 mill guarenteed (minimums)

by BmoreBlitz on Apr 14, 2010 11:24 AM EDT up reply actions

Me thinks

Miami overpaid, compared to the Holmes’ deal. I iknow Marshall’s a lot better, but still, two seconds? Ouch.

I'm was on the fence

Marshall’s a top 5 WR physically and was worth a 1st round pick. This draft is so loaded that a high 2nd this year is like a 1st . That said, the second #2 in next years draft maybe a little steep and factoring in the contract that Marsahll got pushes it really to over payment for me. Ballsy move by Bill and will aid the young signal caller in Miami.

by Ravens One on Apr 14, 2010 1:32 PM EDT up reply actions

Man, and we have to play that division next year. Moss, Marshall and Edwards/Holmes. Miami is definitely a team on the rise. I like their young talent and I have been a Chad Henne fan since his Michigan days.

Im starting to agree that a cornerback might be our number one priority in the draft. We will be going up against a solid Wr corp almost every week.

Yea, for real.

We’re only playing 4 games against top 10 offenses from last year. We’re playing 7 games against top 10 defenses though. Give me a topflight WR early, we’ll make due at corner.

by BmoreBlitz on Apr 14, 2010 11:27 AM EDT up reply actions

Not only need a CB

but based on those guys, plus whomever else we’re gonna see (NO, etc.) a BIG corner might be the target to be physical with those guys.

Ozzie wud have to move up ALOT to get Kyle Wilson or do u think Kareem jackson will be there in the second round?

by Raven_all_day on Apr 14, 2010 7:28 PM EDT up reply actions

According to Mike Mayock,

Kareem Jackson is the only other corner after Haden and Wilson 1st round worthy. I’d be happpy to get him as he has size and is real physical.

CB will not help...

if we do not improve our pass rush. CB’s cannot cover forever, we need to get to the QB. #1 priority.

On a different note, the Marshall acquisition is causing rumors of Tedd Ginn’s availability. Would he be a good fit for us, or the second coming of Jermaine Lewis. Cam Cameron was the HC over there when they drafted him, wonder if he would want him here to utilize his speed and skills.

by Rayisyourdaddy on Apr 14, 2010 11:14 AM EDT reply actions

I would not mind giving up a late draft pick for Ginn. He would help us on special teams and would be an upgrade from Carr. I would rather have Ginn than Clayton

by ryantz on Apr 14, 2010 11:18 AM EDT reply actions

Agree with you and rayisyourdaddy. If we can get a few extra picks, I would not mind giving up a 3rd or 4th for him I guess. Would that be fair value?

by Mr MaLoR on Apr 14, 2010 11:19 AM EDT up reply actions

I bet we could get him for a 6th. He’s got speed, alligator arms, and good return ability. I’d take him for 6th or 7th rounder.

by BmoreBlitz on Apr 14, 2010 11:29 AM EDT up reply actions

Works for me.

No way Ginn draws interest

from the Ravens. First of all, we’d trade perhaps a sixth, as I don’t think we have a seventh. However, the main reason the Dol-fans want him gone is that he doesn’t show up, hustle or give 100% on plays and has disappeared for most of his career there. We do NOT want Gin, trust me. I have a couple of cousins down there who love the ’fins but hate Ginn.

agree with you on Miami coming up Malor. I was very impressed with Henne last year and the dolphin team. They clearly needed WR help and addressed it with arguably the most productive receiver the past couple years. That division will definitely be some tough games for us next year.

by AV23 on Apr 14, 2010 11:20 AM EDT reply actions

They have really good, young CB. Dansby and Chowder in the middle. Now they have the WR they want and good running game. They need to find a replacement for Porter and get a DT. Good, up and coming team.

You have to hate losing more than you love winning.

by Mr MaLoR on Apr 14, 2010 11:24 AM EDT up reply actions

Ya Ginn still has some real speed and would not mind bringing him here for the right price.

by AV23 on Apr 14, 2010 11:23 AM EDT reply actions

5th rounder

Would be the right price for me, more than that I am not so sure. Maybe next years 4th rounder for him….

by Rayisyourdaddy on Apr 14, 2010 11:41 AM EDT reply actions

I just read on yahoo rumors that the ravens are one of two teams reportedly interested in Ginn.

by AV23 on Apr 14, 2010 1:17 PM EDT reply actions

It would not surprise me. Cam Cameron was there when they drafted him, so that “comfort” level I guess is there. He has not lived up to the first round pick he was, but I would give away a 6th or 7th for him. I think Miami is dumb to get rid of him.

You have to hate losing more than you love winning.

by Mr MaLoR on Apr 14, 2010 1:38 PM EDT up reply actions

I completely agree

Ginn will never be a #1 WR but……..he is an NFL player and could develope into more than a guy that runs 9 routes. It won’t hurt him either to learn from and be around the venerable Derrik Mason and a tough as nails Anquan Boldin.

by Ravens One on Apr 15, 2010 11:01 AM EDT up reply actions

Ya I agree, I think with Marshall being there that will take off a lot of the pressure that was on him and I could see him having a nice year next year. I would even give up one of our 5ths for him. More than that I would be hesitant, but he is still fairly young and I don’t think he will ever be a #1 receiver he has great potential to be a solid number 2.

by AV23 on Apr 14, 2010 1:43 PM EDT reply actions

if anything he could be our Josh Cribbs. Ginnis a monster in the return game

by Raven_all_day on Apr 15, 2010 1:35 PM EDT reply actions

Definitely a great return man

But he is no Cribbs. Cribbs is already considered to be the greatest returner of all time, as evident by the most return TDs of all time.

by Mr MaLoR on Apr 15, 2010 2:32 PM EDT up reply actions

Ginn was already traded to 49er's

But the Ravens would have only had any possible interest if they had not signed Stallworth.

by DT711 on Apr 16, 2010 6:55 PM EDT reply actions

I doubt it

Don’t think they would have that much money tied up at WR, after they just paid Marshall a ridiculous sum of money. I think the Broncos will take a long hard look at Dez if hes available.
