What Other Sites Are Saying About Boldin Trade
Looking around the internet, there is a lot of talk about all the signings on the first official day of free agency and the trading deals that were made yesterday. Starting off with the Baltimore Ravens own site, there is a ton of optimism coming from One Winning Drive on their great deal in trading a 3rd and 4th round pick in April's NFL Draft for Wide receiver Anquan Boldin and the Arizona Cardinals' 5th round pick. Combined with the Compensatory picks that we will be getting this year for free agents that the team lost last season (Bart Scott, Jim Leonhard), the team may actually make up those two picks with a third and fourth round draft pick for them.
Click on the links to the various sites listed after the 'Jump' to see what is being said around the 'net.
Mike Duffy, of BaltimoreRavens.com, writes about the Boldin trade here.
NFL.com has all the details, including some great Anquan Boldin video highlights here.
The National Football Post writes about the Boldin pick up, with a tie-in to local reporter Aaron Wilson, here.
Speaking of Aaron Wilson, see what he's saying about the trade at the Carroll County Times here.
I guess if I'm going to post all the sites, then I have to list the Baltimore Sun story here.

Wait, did I just wake up and see that Ozzie pulled the trigger on a #1 WR? Crazy.

I pretty sure comp picks are added only if you don’t sign an equal number of free agents. We lost 4 that year(Scott, Leonard, Brown, and and I’m blanking on the 4th guy) and signed 4 (Foxworth, LJ Smith, Birk, and Washington). Since we lost players that are better than the ones we got, we probably get one 7th round pick. The NFL doesn’t release how they exactly determine who gets picks, but in the past it’s worked like this.
Compensatory picks
AdamJT has a blog, and he predicts the compensatory picks. He originally said in he pre prediction blog that he doesnt think we will get a high pick, maybe a sandwich pick (google his blog for an explanation). I am sure that lj smith will not count, based on playing time. carr will probably count. i feel like we might end up with 1 pick and a sandwich pick.
Adam states that he will have the predictions up by March 9th the latest, so it shouldn’t be long. I really hope we get at least 1 3rd/4th rounder.
If not I hope Ozzie trades down in the 1st or 2nd cuz he is a great drafter in the 2-4 round range. I hope he trades from the end of the 1st into the 2nd and picks up a 3rd and a 4th in the process. There prob wont be anyone we want worth staying there, since none of the CB seem to be standing out after Haden, and I dont think Ozzie feels the need to draft a TE this high.

I hope Rayisyourdaddy is right
In that, I hope that playing time and / or impact to team is factored in because clearly the LJ signing should get us a pick!

I wouldn't trade down
because if one of the better pass rushers is still there at 25, I’d grab him (Dunlap!).

Not so high on Gresham anymore
With Bodin here, Heap might have a resurgence and there were so many other tight ends at the Combine that have great abilities and might be more worthwhile to get one of them later than spending a first on Gresham.

Gresham
I watched the combine and do not recall Gresham lighting it up. He has not play football for quite sometime and did not impress me. I’d be looking to go in a different direction to get someone behind Todd Heap unless he was the best player available on the board.
Ill take him if hes available in the 2nd

Gresham will be a great player
Remember he suffered a fairly serious kneee injury last year, so his combine numbers are not him at 100%. His on field body of work speaks for it self. He is a complete TE and a game changer, especialy in Cam’s offense. The Ravens would be very lucky to get Gresham at #25, but I have my doubts he will still be around at that point.
If he is, I think the Ravens will take him…. Remember we were all set to trade up to select Pettigrew last year, but the Lions picked him one selection before. We settled for Oher, which worked out pretty damn well….
NFL UFA rules
I readily admit I do not understand all of the nuances of the NFL’s UFA rules, but what BmoreBlitz has written is my understanding as well. Based on that, I thought we may only get a 7th rounder. Any more information that anyone could provide would be helpful.

Why just a 7th rounder? Bart and Jim are starting for the jets

We did sign
Foxworth and Birk, who were year long starters for us. Kelly Washington played a good amount also.
I’m not sure what that means in the end as far as net result…Hopefully we get a few decent comp picks.
Jason Brown
also plays into that equation, his contract along with Bart Scotts almost combined for a whomping $100 million if played out accordingly. Talk about home-grown talent.
Scott Hines
and Foxworth and Birk
Started for us all year long. You only get good picks if you don’t resign players to replace them…

If a team signs Troy Smith during the off-season, does anyone think it would be smart to maybe talk to Kurt Warner about coming out of retirement to be our back-up or QB adviser? He knows how to be successful with Boldin and could pass some great things on to Joe. Just a thought.

Why would he want to come back and be a backup. If he wanted to play he would be with Zona.

The Ravens have a visitor.
Former Colts CB Marlin Jackson is scheduled to visit the Baltimore Ravens on Tuesday.
Works for me.
Anyone who practiced against Peyton Manning
would be a solid move for us. That’s why I wanted former Steelers corner Anthony McFadden, who signed cheaply with the Cards last year. He practiced against Ben and Hines and Santonio all the time, which would have helped us IMO.

He knows his stuff
2009 NY Phin PhansFantasy League Champion
2009 Best Regular Season Record in NYPPL.
2010 The Jim Mandich NewsFlash Award Winner.
I approve of this very, very much. He is a legit CB we can probably get for a good price.

Marlin Jackson
I think the Ravens are always very prudent in their off season duties, but don’t we have enough of ACL torn corners? Hey, if he passes his physical and the Ravens sign him I trust it was the right move, but it would be nice to have some stability back there as well.

I always said if Q gets traded I hope it's to Baltimore.
I hate to see him go and really hate our front office for this move, but I understand why they did it, and at least they made sure Q was set up before they traded him away. Q will be sorely missed by us Cards fans and the team itself, but he is the perfect fit for your Ravens. His toughness, passion, leadership, and hard nosed play all tie in to what Ravens football is all about, and No. 81 brings nothing short of 110% every Sunday, hurt or not. So cherish him, respect him, and most importantly don’t take him for granted like a lot of Cards fans have. Ya, a lot of us are going to be really pissed when Doucet takes a hard hit over the middle and there’s no one there to fill his role.
Best of luck to Q. Cant wait until we play eachother (next year?).
Go Cards!!!

AdamJT is up
He has his predictions, and he has us getting nothing! At most, a net-value pick at the end of the 7th. I was hoping for 1 pick, and its not impossible he is wrong, but it don’t look good. He is usually 95% right
