Brandon Marshall

It has been reported that Brandon Marshall was given a first round tender today. Intstead of us having to give up multiple draft picks, we only have to give up a first. I don't know about the rest of you, but I would do this in a heart beat. Instead of drafting a receiver who may bust, we can go out and get a pro-bowl receiver who is pretty much a lock for 100 rec. and 1000 yards. If we could do this and re-sign mason, our receiving core will be solid and we can address our pass rush and CB situation with our other picks or FA. We also tendered Gaither for a first, so if someone picks him up we would get their first. We possibly could get Marshall and move up in the first round. What do you guys think?

The opinions posted here are those of the administrator of this blog and his loyal readers. They are in no way official comments from the team, and should not be misconstued as such, even though he thinks he could do just as well or even a better job!

Do it in a heart beat. Unfortunately, I do not trust Ozzie will do this. I hope he proves me wrong, but he might be hard headed here and think a Arrellious Benn or Golden Tate is a better option, which is 100% WRONG!

We need someone who will deliver NOW and Marshall will do that. I would gladly give up a chance on what could later become a great playmaker for a guaranteed playmaker now.

Grab Marshall, lose our first

Then someone grabs Gaither and we get a first round pick back. Win/win by my view from way up here!

Ozzie, hope you’re reading this. Call me.

Only Problem

Who are we gonna replace Gaither with? Trust me I love the idea but who will be our RT? (assuming Oher moves over to LT)

by NgataChance!! on Mar 4, 2010 10:48 AM EST up reply actions

It's not too difficult to find a replacement RT

at least compared to LT. Can slide Yanda out there or something… would gladly put Oher over at LT since we would eventually do it in a year or two anyhow, and take the cowboys 27th pick… then you can trade the 25th for signing RFA Brandon Marshall and still have a pick 2 picks later and pick up BPA with greater confidence.

I like Gaither on a personal/fan level, but I’d rather have what is best for the team.

Plus

We would have to pay the man top level money next year, so you might as well try to get a first for him this year… rather use the money saved next year to pay BMarsh this year.

by ATXRaven on Mar 4, 2010 11:55 AM EST up reply actions

Right tackles

are a dime a dozen. We have guys who should be ready or can draft a guy to take over there for the next ten years.

I think

We will get Marshall or Boldin. Probably Marshall. I think we should trade our 2011 first rounder for him, can’t we do that?

by davidhusker on Mar 4, 2010 9:11 AM EST reply actions

They probably want payment now

They probably would want this years first because they could load up on first rounders this year then. I also wouldn’t want to pull a Raiders and start trading future draft picks because then when everyone (including Ozzie) can see a glaring hole that we have and there’s the perfect guy in the draft that will be there when we draft next year and we don’t have the pick, everyone (including me) will have forgotten the impact of Marshall and will be pissed… I hate it but it’s true

by NgataChance!! on Mar 4, 2010 10:51 AM EST up reply actions

Is anyone opposed

to the idea that Yanda could play RT? We have guys around, like Chester and Hale who could play inside. Yanda played RT a lot a couple years ago, and I remember liking it. This draft is deep at tackle too. Oh, and boy would I like to see Cousins play some more (not really).

by PurpleNorangeNbeer on Mar 4, 2010 11:16 AM EST reply actions

I love that idea

I like Chester at guard and Hale as the future replacement of Birk (possibly) I like that he plays mean. Just made that comment two posts up before reading yours… great minds.

Even though I'd be cool with this.

It’s never gonna happen with Ozzie running things. No matter who the player is Ozzie always feels like he could draft someone who may end up being better.

by mlb32001 on Mar 4, 2010 12:12 PM EST reply actions

This is a good year to give up our 1st

The only major need that there will be a good player left at is TE with Gresham. And there is no guarantee that he won’t go before our pick. I know Ozzie hates giving up 1st’s, but we have 2 options with our 1st:
Draft BPA and sign him to the typical contract for that spot (in the 5 yr 20 mill range) and draft a WR in the 2nd or 3rd, with no guarantee he wont be a bust.

Sign Marshall to a 5-7 year contract for 35-40 million with some type of poison pill that Denver cannot match and give up the 1st rounder. Resign Mason for 2 years (ending same time as Ray and Birk) and we are set at the position with Marshall, Mason, Stallworth, Marcus Smith and one open spot for either a FA or draft pick.

The only question is how many years to give Marshall. 5? 6? 7?

There is no comparison between Marshall and Boldin. Boldin is older, less special athletically, and more of a stud possession reciever who is great ATC then a sick WR.

by Rayisyourdaddy on Mar 4, 2010 1:32 PM EST reply actions

Couldn't agree more about Boldin

Add in that Boldin wants Fitzgerald money, and there is a serious problem there. Marshall is worth that kind of money and a first round pick. The Cardinals a trying to get a team to take Boldin off their hands by only tendering him for a third rounder so the new team has to deal with the contract problems.

Getting me way too excited. Since when do dreams in Baltimore come true?

And you are forgetting that Clayton is most likely coming back. He got a 2nd round tender and I am unsure if someone would want to give that up for a guy that has played like a 3rd round WR. Be nice thought to keep him here as the #3-4. Maybe the competition with Stallworth and many other underrated WR we have here like Riley and Harper could kick his butt in gear. Mason and Marshall is not fair to this league. How the hell do you plan on covering those two plus Stallworth? Oh yea, gotta worry about Ray Rice as well. Sucks for those teams.

I like that rayisyourdaddy brought up Marcus Smith

I like that kid a lot and think he has TONS of potential… I really hope he ends up as our 3rd/4th receiver and someone takes clayton. There is no way Marcus can’t match his mediocre production. I know Stallworth is in the mix but with the salary we paid Donte I wouldn’t mind if a young kid like Smith out played in the DC. I just hope that when no one takes Clayton off our hands for a 2nd that the Ravens FO doesn’t keep him high on the DC just because of his 1st round draft status.

by ATXRaven on Mar 4, 2010 2:56 PM EST up reply actions

and besides

the luster may be off of Gresham between his injury and his poor Combine numbers, as well as there being such a deep TE draft group.

2nd rounder?

by Zachary Beard on Mar 5, 2010 4:12 PM EST up reply actions

Perhaps

and even a lower round pick can bring us a decent TE, based off what we saw at the Combine.

by Bruce Raffel on Mar 5, 2010 6:44 PM EST up reply actions

Clayton

Will likely be back on a 1 year deal. So we draft someone for the practice squad to pull off when there are injuries. I hate not bringing back Kelley cuz i think he has great upside, so if kelley wants too much money we draft someone in the middle rounds. kelley prob wont want to have to fight donte for the #3/#4 spot (cuz of clayton), so he is prob gone.

No one will pay a 2nd rounder for Clayton, but I am guessing that someone would offer us a lower draft pick for him in a trade based on potential, i think we could maybe get a 4th rounder for him in the current climate from someone wanting to lock him up as their #2/#3 WR long term.

And Marcus Smith was looking GOOD last preseason before his injury. I am very excited to see what he can do. I just hope we get a true #1 so that there will be no pressure on Marcus and we can work him into the offense at our own pace and not rush him.

Ozzie needs to pull the trigger on this. We would be giving up our first but probably gaining it back when someone picks up gaither. We would have our receiver position settled, draft a DE with our 1st pick and CB with our 2nd and we just drastically improved our team on both sides of the ball.

by AV23 on Mar 4, 2010 3:32 PM EST reply actions

Even if we don't gain another 1st

We had a good chance of drafting a WR at 25 anyhow, so it’s like getting guaranteed young star WR rather than gambling on Benn or Tate turning into a young star in a few years. Plus if we keep Gaither we continue to have a OL in the top 1/3 of the league… so it’s still and winning scenario.

by ATXRaven on Mar 4, 2010 3:38 PM EST up reply actions

After further review....

I agree 100%,we can either sign an unproven rookie fresh from the draft or trade the pick for the Beast Brandon Marshall….100 catches a year 3 years in a row,25 yrs. old,no brainer, resign Mason, you added Stallworth and can get T.O. cheap. As for problems,we have the best problem solver in the league..Ray Lewis,he will keep the locker room in order. We have alot of players returing from injury, use the draft on the “D” and go win another Championship for Ray,Heap,Reed, they have played there asses off for us over the years the organization should do the Marshall deal before the window closes on our veterans and send them out on top…

by thomlord on Mar 4, 2010 9:41 PM EST reply actions

I would!

Do it and do it now! A proven NFL receiver or a possible great? We got burned on Clayton and Travis Taylor which shows that being good in college doesn’t guarantee excellence in the NFL. Clayton is a good guy who can make the occasional brilliant catch but too often he disappears from the game. Get Marshall now!

by Rayfan1 on Mar 5, 2010 4:25 PM EST reply actions

Boldin is the man!

and the price was right, so buh-bye B-Marsh and enjoy the dampness of Seattle, where we will not see you until next year at the earliest!

Denver will probably drop their price for B-Marsh

as their top suitor just blinked. Marshall and TJ Whoseyourmomma can keep each other miserable in the NFC Worst!
