Next Move
I feel like we have a very good team, and can contend as is (with our draft picks, whomever they may be). However, I believe that we should spend a little more money and hedge all our bets for the next 2 years so we can maximize our chances to win a Super Bowl with Ray and Ed. Birk and Mason are also around for these next 2 years, so we have a really great opportunity to win these next 2 years. I think most people with knowledge of the NFL would probably rank us top 5 going into this year already.
After our offseason so far, we still have some legitimate needs at TE, D-Line, and CB. While all of these should definitely be addressed in the draft, I feel that the best way to hedge our bets at these positions is to sign veterans to share time with the rookies we bring in at these positions. TE we are fine on the veteran front with Heap, and only need a solid backup to complement him, so here I think we should wait until the draft and try to fill that hole. But D-Line and CB are holes that we legitimately should not rely solely on a rookie to solve.
At CB, we have Foxworth and Carr, along with Webb and Washington coming off of serious injuries. It would bode well for us to carry 6 CB's this year, just in case there are problems with Webb or Washington's rehabs (Like Rolle encountered last year). So if we draft someone in rounds 1-4 at the position, and sign a veteran with upside. There are several good veterans out there who fit the bill. My favorite is Nathan Vashar, freshly waived by the Bears. He started his career with 2 great season's, I think both were Pro-Bowl years for him. He has been battling injuries since his 3rd year, but he is only 28. Other options are Melvin Bulitt(IND), and Townsend and Gay (PIT), which it would be nice to hurt our rivals.
At D-Line, besides the fact that our pass rush needs work, we have also lost all of our depth on the line when Bannan and Edwards signed in Denver and Buffalo , respectively. We definitely need to draft a player here, maybe someone like Odrick or Terrance 'Mount' Cody, but we should also bring in a cagy vet, maybe on a 2 year deal, like we did with Pryce a few years ago. That has worked out well for us. Some of the options include Derrick Burgess, Greg Ellis, Jevon Kearse, Charles Grant, and Leonard Little. My personal favorite is Grant, a former stud who has also fallen on some injury plagued seasons. He has 2 seasons of 10+ sacks, and 5 of 5+. He has a 78 tackle season, and 16 FF in 8 seasons. At DT, there is not so much to work with, but Ngata and Gregg can both play the NT in the 3-4, and Pryce can slide inside to DT in the 4-3, so we should be okay if we bring in one more guy who can play inside. We also still have on our roster Brandon McKinney and Kelly Talavou.
Another position we could use a little help is O-line. Our depth is a little shallow now, with Terry leaving. Not much of a loss, but we could probably use a little more depth than Chester and Cousins.
Those are my thoughts for now.

Couple veteran CB I would not mind bringing in.
- Dre Bly
- Nick Harper
- Ty Law
- Lawyer Milloy
A veteran CB signed to a 1,2 year low contract would be a great move honestly. Give stability in nickel and dime packages and teach the young guys some stuff.
Not much that interests me in D-Line though. Gonna have to build that one through the draft.
You have to hate losing more than you love winning.
Bly was washed up before going to Denver
and played pretty poorly there. Law and Lawyer are just too old now. Harper was ehhh, but I also like Vasher, who would at the very least add veteran depth, now that it looks like we’ll be sadly losing Frank Walker to an NFC team, according to 105.7.
I agree and so does Sirius NFL Radio (the best site on radio!), who say that Charles Grant would be a great addition to us, more so than any other D-line FA out there. I say go get Grant and Vasher, beef up Kruger and then realize that our biggest remaining need is either a TE or additional depth.
That puts us in the position to either take BPA (no really this time) or trade down for more picks and added depth.

Rec'd just for your love of Sirius NFL Radio
When my wife and I moved she made me get rid of it and I currenlty dying without it… so Bruce, enjoy it for the both of us.
I say grab Vasher, after all he is a UT guy and a player the Ravens were targeting if memory serves me correctly, I believe Chicago scooped him up a pick or two ahead of us at the time.
So I looked it up and I'm retarded
I remember the Ravens supposedly liking him since my wife was going to there at the time, but we didn’t have a pick in the 4th… we did take Devard Darling in the 3rd round though… good pick… so I’m an idiot. Still wouldn’t mind picking him up, even if overpaid, to provide insurance at CB.
Your wife controls your life. No video games, no siruis radio. Do you have to ask to go to the bathroom?

You poor poor man
We do have no idea and I say seek peace and happiness, as well as Sirius NFL Radio!

I love my wife, but damn she is cheap as hell.
I’ve actually been creating a new gmail account every week so I can sign up for another free sirius radio 7 day internet trial. Going on 7 weeks now.
Won't you run out of names (at some point)
If that happens, I’ll send you one of mine. You’re good for it.
Names I don't worry about because I can just keep adding numbers
I email the most recent to my work email so I have the new information and then delete it once the week is up. I’m more concerned about google catching on to the number of gmail accoutns being create by my work IP address.
I am a big Howard Stern fan, so when I listen to Siruis that is usually what is on.

If you like Howard, you should check out Jason Ellis... similar genre but completely different
sirius 28 faction weekdays 3-7EST… gotta support the wing.
Always switch between NFL Radio and Howard 100

I never leave Sirius NFL Radio
At home, walking the dog or in the car it’s always on. Simply can’t do without it. Am I normal? As for the CB’s available, I too think Vasher would be a good signing. Watched a lot of San Fran’s games last season. Ditto the sentiments of Bruce about Bly and he’s not a team guy.
Of the verteran D-Lineman mentioned Charles Grant maybe a good option. He’s unhappy about being dumped by the Saints and has stated he wants to play two more years. Nothing like having self starting and motivated players on the roster that can play.
I think Howard Stern is funny
I just hate his ,“The world is against me” mantra.

Well when you are as degrading against women, rude, homophobic, erotically disgusting as he is, the world tends to hate you.

Howard Stern
Who’s that! Is he on Sirius?
Yes (of course)
I’m a football junkie but NOT that much of a junkie. I don’t do Stern. I value my brain cells (the few I have left).
Can I borrow some of yours? Mine are almost gone.

That's hilarious
You’re okay. You’re one of the bright minds on this board and what a great board it is.
agree with malor that there’s not really any ends that stand out but wouldn’t mind bringing another corner in here. I don’t know about drafting terrance cody though, he seems more of a run stopper which we already do well with. Plus Ngata is better at the nose rather than end so I would prefer to have Ngata in the middle. I do agree with you that I would not mind bringing in Vasher.
I never heard of this guy but he ripped it up in his pro day. His name is Jameson Konz he is a 6’4 234 lb TE but he ran a 4.41 forty had a vertical of 46 inches, a broad jump of 10’8 and a 4.25 short cone shuttle. He has only played TE for one season so he is a project, but those numbers are ridiculous. At the combine his vertical would have been the best ever at any position by 2 1/2 inches. The crazy thing is the only team there to watch this was the Browns.

Ya would not mind picking him up and using him as a project. He could be a dangerous red zone weapon. 46 inch vertical is ridiculous for a basketball player, but for a football player, that’s unheard of. The reward could be far greater than the risk on this guy.
Look at him, he scares me. His hair is better than Hulk Hogans.
