Vikings' Percy Harvin Named Pepsi NFL Rookie-of-the-Year
Remember that last year Baltimore Ravens rookie QB Joe Flacco won this award although Atlanta Falcons rookie QB Matt Ryan won the NFL's Rookie-of-the-Year Award? This year the Minnesota Vikings rookie WR Percy Harvin has garnered this award while the NFL's version has not yet been determined. Baltimore Raven rookie OT Michael Oher was one of the finalists this season.

Minnesota Vikings WR-KR PERCY HARVIN is the 2009 PEPSI NFL ROOKIE OF THE YEAR, Pepsi and the National Football League announced today.
Harvin totaled 2,081 combined yards, second in the NFC and setting a Vikings single-season record. Harvin recorded two kickoff returns for a touchdown, including an 101-yard return Week 3 against the 49ers, and ranked fourth in the NFL with a 27.5 KOR average (42 returns for 1,156 yards). In 15 games, Harvin had 60 receptions for 790 yards, both tied for the best among rookies, and six touchdowns and 135 rushing yards on 15 carries. He was added to the 2010 NFC Pro Bowl squad as a kick returner. Harvin, who attended the University of Florida, was nominated for seven Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week awards, winning twice.
More than 1,591,000 fan votes were submitted for the 2009 PEPSI NFL ROOKIE OF THE YEAR on NFL.com from January 8 through February 2, shattering last year’s total of 1,002,500.
Harvin was one of five finalists for the honor. The other finalists were safety JAIRUS BYRD of the Buffalo Bills, linebacker BRIAN CUSHING of the Houston Texans, linebacker CLAY MATTHEWS of the Green Bay Packers and offensive tackle MICHAEL OHER of the Baltimore Ravens.
The five finalists were selected for their outstanding performances throughout the 2009 NFL season. Each week, five nominees were chosen for the Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week and NFL fans voted for the winner on NFL.com. Those results were used to help determine the finalists.
This is Pepsi’s eighth year as the official soft drink sponsor of the NFL and the eighth year that Pepsi presented the NFL Rookie of the Week and NFL Rookie of the Year awards.
