DB Coach Mark Carrier Leaving for Jets

Ravens are now losing yet another coach to another AFC team. This time, it is Ravens Defensive Backs coach Mark Carrier. Carrier will be leaving Baltimore to join former Ravens Defensive Coordinator in New York to become the Jets' new Defensive Line coach. Not too sure who the Ravens will sign to replace Carrier, but this is a very important position to fill considering how inconsistent our secondary was last year.

Defensive backs coach Mark Carrier will leave Baltimore to take a job as a defensive line coach with former Ravens defensive coordinator Rex Ryan and the New York Jets, according to multiple reports.

Carrier reportedly wants to eventually move up to a defensive coordinator position and sees this as a move that will bring him closer to that goal.

Carrier, who spent the past four years in Owings Mills, played an instrumental part in the secondary’s improved play after a rocky start to the 2009 season. He was well-liked by the players partly because, as a former player, he could relate to them easily.

“Coach Carrier, he was a former player and he knows that sometimes what the defense asks you to do is not possible,” linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo said last week. “Carrier understands those types of nuances.”

Carrier played 11 seasons as a cornerback in the NFL, playing with Chicago, Detroit and Washington. The former first-round pick was named to three Pro Bowls, including in his rookie season when he was dubbed the NFL’s Defensive Rookie of the Year.

He coached one year at Brophy College Prep and another two as secondary coach at Arizona State before joining the Ravens.

Actually, go tto give him credit

for patching together the secondary after we lost Rolle at the beginning of the season, Washington in the middle and Webb at the end. Not a bad job considering the final results.
