What if We Draft Tebow? (From ravens.com)
I'd love see what you guys think about this.
OK, so this idea came to me. It sounds outrageous. It sounds impossible. Actually, it's neither. It's an eyebrow-raiser, that's what it is. An eyebrow-raiser with potential.
What if the Ravens drafted Tim Tebow?
I know. I can list the reasons why it doesn't make sense. With Joe Flacco as a starter and Troy Smith as a backup, the Ravens don't need a young quarterback. They need receivers, defensive backs and more. And although Tebow was a spectacular legend in college, at Florida, his unusual throwing delivery makes his pro future uncertain.
The Ravens probably will take that receiver or defensive back with their first pick. But Tebow, who has pledged to revamp his delivery to make himself a better pro, doesn't figure to go in the first round. And if he is still available when the Ravens make their later selections -- especially in, say, the third round -- he would make one fascinating addition.
Tebow, potentially, could really help the Ravens achieve their top offseason goal of making their offense more dangerous in 2010.
They didn't use their Wildcat-style offense a whole lot last season (they call it their Suggs Package) but Tebow ran a variation at Florida and rewrote the college record book. He is big and tough and certainly the most decorated running quarterback since Vince Young. If the Ravens had him, they could let offensive coordinator Cam Cameron's fertile mind loose on the idea of a Purple Wildcat with Tebow under center. Whew, talk about a new weapon. I can envision Tebow taking a snap and busting off tackle, as he did at Florida. I can envision him taking a step forward, then dropping back and passing. I can envision a jump-pass touchdown toss to Todd Heap.
Sure, the Ravens would still use their standard pro-style set with Flacco the vast majority of the time. But a Purple Wildcat could be a terrific change of pace. (Do you like how I've already named it?) At the very least, opponents would have to spend valuable practice time preparing for it.
Yes, the Ravens could do precisely the same thing with Troy Smith, who, like Tebow, is a winner with multiple athletic skills. But Tebow is a better runner. And Smith's agent made a public trade request last fall. Smith never said much about it and the whole thing came off somewhat curiously, but Smith clearly and understandably wants to play more, and if possible, start. He won't in Baltimore as long as Flacco remains upright. He could end up elsewhere.
But regardless if they trade Smith, the Ravens have a long history of not being afraid to draft to a strength and duplicate their talent. They took Jonathan Ogden when they already had Tony Jones at left tackle. They took Jamal Lewis when they already had Priest Holmes carrying the ball. They took Michael Oher when they already had Jared Gaither at left tackle. They took Chris McAlister when they already had Duane Starks at cornerback. Each of those moves proved enormously beneficial in the long run.
Taking Tebow when they already have Flacco and Smith would be a slightly different maneuver. Tebow wouldn't eventually replace the incumbent. His long-range career arc is unclear. But he could have a huge immediate impact. He is an extraordinary athlete who might be able to play some position other than quarterback. He is a driven, commanding leader. Ravens defensive coordinator Greg Mattison, an assistant at Florida before coming to Baltimore, was the guy who recruited Tebow to be a Gator. Mattison can vouch for his locker-room intangibles.

I would love.
He may not be the best QB, but he is one hell of a football player. Ozzie’s philosophy is to suround the team with the best football players, and tebow is just that. Would welcome him here for sure.
You have to hate losing more than you love winning.
If he's available in a late round, I'd take him.
Say whatever you want about his ability, he’s a winner and a student of the game. In no way could it hurt to have him as a back up QB, especially if Troy does leave.
Here's the issue with this:
With Flacco as our Franchise QB, he needs to be on the field for almost every snap. Tebow is not interested in playing a few snaps a game. I’d like to see Tebow as our tight end, or H-back, and possibly move him into a Wildcat position occasionally. However, Tebow has said he wants to be an NFL QB and to try to convert him against his will may not be a good move. While I personally think he is a beast of an athlete and could be a good NFL QB, he does not seem to fit into what our needs are vs. what he wants. Therefore, why risk the move?
As far as Troy goes, I say buh-bye and would be fine w/ Beck as our backup.

Yea, Tebow needs to be a starting QB in this league, not a back-up. I really hope he succeeds.

Yeah
God wouldn’t like it if he was a Back-up.

Yea, we won't take him.
No way Tebow slips out of the 3rd. I be surprised if he makes it out of the 2nd, and Ozzie won’t use that high of a pick on a QB.
However, not sure why you think he is over rated. The man holds nearly every SEC passing and scoring records, has a heisman and a national championship. Anybody who thinks this guy is not a great QB is wrong. If he goes to the right system, I think he will have the best career of any of the QBs coming out. Bradford will fall apart in Washington, Clausen will be terrible with no WR help in Seatle. Tebow will go to Minnesota or San Fran and lead one of those teams to a superbowl. I like Colt McCoy alot as well.

wow, that's a bit strong
the best career? i wouldn’t bet on it, unless his new motion cures almost all of his problems.

His delivery is suspect
Just like Rivers and so manhy other non-perfect throwers who either won Super Bowls or are in the HoF.
Tim Tebow, arguably the best college football player of ALL TIME!

All time?
I will give him ONE of the best, but I really don’t agree when people say that he is the best… He played in a system that worked for him. Look at Vince Young, he took time to really be able to play in the NFL and even now he’s not an “NFL QB” but it works WELL ENOUGH in Tennessee. I feel that pure skill and talent wise Vince Young blows Tim Tebow out of the water, but Tebow has an amazing work ethic… One thing I hate about Tebow is that he is an extremely selfish person and player. My friend is extremely religious and went to a seminar thing that Tim and his dad were doing and he said it was terrible, the entire thing was trying to get money for the Tim Tebow foundation and he talked about himself and him playing football most of the time. He wouldn’t fit in our organization at all and if Troy Smith wants to get traded after 3 years because he wants to start imagine how quickly Tebow would demand a trade…

Church
He also worships the church that his dad created which I don’t agree with because he preaches it on everybody saying that what they worship is wrong (my friend who went is Roman Catholic… not sure how “wrong” that is for christianity…) I also don’t dislike him for that (I’m Jewish so I don’t really care what religion he is, just that he tells everyone else that they’re wrong)

I respect a person's belief and faith, but..
…to almost try to “push” it on you and lay it out there in everything you do is a bit much, from his eye black quotes to the Super Bowl commercial.

He even annoyed me
And I am Christian.

I got a brother that lives in Fort Worth Texas...
a couple of his neighbors found out he was raised Roman Catholic…You would have thought my brother was the unholy spawn of Satan and Hilary Clinton.
Then they found out he is a practicing Unitarian…..

Sorry....
I cannot disagree more. Yes he holds a lot of SEC records but he also had one hell of a team around him. It’s very difficult in a team sport like football to figure out exactly what is due to just one player. I’m not saying he has no talent, just that his rushing and passing yards are not due sole to him.
I’ll put this out here right now, Tebow played in one of the toughest conferences. I am a firm believer that he played against some of the better college defenses. But if anyone thinks that he would be able to transition into the NFL and get away with running as much as he did…your crazy. If he goes to a team that tries to run him like he did in college, look forward to a lot concussions like in his Kentucky game.
This is just my opinion, but I don’t see Tebow having a successful pro career. Maybe I’m wrong. I just see Tebow having as much chance of success as a team running the option offense full time.

Regarding Vince Young
He is definitely an NFL QB and played real well after sitting and watching Kerry Collins for a year. He even made the Pro Bowl this past year, but then again, so did Tom Zbikowski. However, both will be very good QBs in the league and wonder where Matt Leinhart is watching these two and when he will “show up?”

Leinart
