Anquan Boldin Coming to Baltimore?

According to ProFootballTalk.com, the rumor around the NFL Combine is that the Arizona Cardinals have finally decided that they will be trading wide receiver Anquan Boldin during this off season. They list a variety of reasons and the team they say is at the top of the list? Yes, your Baltimore Ravens. While I would and can see Boldin in this offense, I don't see GM Ozzie Newsome giving up a first rounder but even if he trades a second round pick and other considerations, it would be a huge upgrade for this team.

Profootballtalk has always failed me in the past. I will believe it when I see it

This guy always puts out these crazy ideas. And the worst part is that he words them in a way that makes it sound like he has some great sources of information when it is really just a hunch he has and puts it out there so his crappy website can get more attention.

Look at the tone BaltimoreRavens.com has when talking about this. They sound like they think this guy is crazy and has no source.

Before we get too far ahead of ourselves, Pro Football Talk’s Gregg Rosenthal laid out a big disclaimer in his "Boldin will finally get dealt" blog.

The disclaimer is that a respectable journalist would be too responsible to write about such a rumor. So, take that for what it’s worth.

Having said that, Rosenthal also added the Anquan Boldin trade notion is coming from "people who know what they are talking about."

Boldin trade gossip was incessant this time last year, yet nothing ever happened. Speculators believe the Cardinals are more open to the idea this time around because Boldin only has one year left on his contract (a reported $3 million), he has health concerns and teammate Steve Breaston has emerged as a starting receiver.

Rosenthal believes Boldin’s trade value has declined from last year’s asking price of a first and third-round pick to a second-round pick "and change."

"While Boldin’s health is a question mark, he’s only 29 years old and is known as a great locker room leader," Rosenthal said. "Baltimore tops the list of teams that will be interested and Miami also makes sense."

we get bolden then no more excuses from flacco about not having receivers

by slapnut on Feb 26, 2010 1:23 PM EST reply actions

I think we still need more than Boldin and Stallworth.

I'd be pretty damn satisfied

with Boldin, Mason and Stallworth as our top three wideouts, and then perhaps some combination of the young kids (Harper, Riley, Marcus Smith, etc.) fighting for backup roles and special teams playing time.

Don't forget the draft

There are so many good WR that will go between the 2nd and 4th rounds. Even if we got Boldin, I wouldn’t rule out Ozzie making moves in the draft at WR.

If we trade for Boldin, I really doubt Mason will be back. I would rather resign Clayton and Washington and then draft someone in the 1st or 2nd. The WR class is really deep this year and we are bound to get someone.

FEAR THE NEVERMORE DEFENSE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here's a wild one:

Trade Denver a 2nd and 4th this year and a 3rd next year for both disgruntled guys, B. Marshall and tight end Tony Sheffler. That sdets us at those positions and we can focus on a DE in the first round and a corner in the 3rd, then depth for the remaining picks. Boom, done, Super Bowl in 2011!

You make it sound like Flacco blames his recievers…

ProFootballTalk was also the FIRST website to report that Ray Lewis was not coming back to Baltimore and Dallas was looking like the best suitor. Once I see it on ESPN, NFL or Ravens site, then I will believe it.

I hope we get somebody

Besides the help we could use on the field, I’m getting sick of hearing these rumors every year.

"I think it's a disgrace they only beat the average team by 10 games in the standings with three times the money. I'd fire that GM. You don't need a GM. All you have to do is buy the last Cy Young Award winner every year" - Steve Bisciotti on the NY Yankees

Don't sign any WRs

You guys are set.

Not that high on Boldin anymore.

A. I’d rather have a receiver at maybe 6-3, Boldin is only 6-1
B. He is always hurt.
C. He’ll be turning 30 in October, can we please just get a guy around the age of 25?

by mlb32001 on Feb 26, 2010 5:50 PM EST reply actions

I agree with you in a way.

But it may be our only and best option at the time. If we cannot get Marshall, don’t you think Boldin is our best option?

by Mr MaLoR on Feb 26, 2010 6:22 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah.

If we are planning to win now he should definitely be the #1 option behind Marshall.

You don’t need to be 6’3 to be good.

Scientific research has proven that you lose exactly 5.37 billion brain cells every time you listen to Todd McShay.

by TheRealSlimShady on Feb 26, 2010 7:28 PM EST up reply actions

No you don't.

But I think Flacco could really benefit from a receiver that is 6’3.

by mlb32001 on Feb 27, 2010 2:05 AM EST up reply actions

Especially if you notcie how high so many of his throws are

and how many times did Clayton or Mason get their feet knocked out from under them due to high throws. Brandon Marshall hauls those down and keeps running while D-Mase and Clayton go up and land on their butts for a “great” catch. Trust me a tall WR improves Flacco’s numbers considerably.

Boldin's big play ability

and comfort going deep or over the middle is worth the so-called risk of injury. He is not an injury risk. He got nailed last year in the face and a hammy pull does not make a guy injury prone.

by Bruce Raffel on Feb 26, 2010 6:36 PM EST reply actions

Sure..

But he has been known to miss a good amount of games in his career. His stats have also declined a bit in the last five years.

I’d really prefer Marshall to Boldin at this point.

Who wouldn’t?

Boldin was a #2 in AZ

while Marshall was a #1 in Denver and had to catch balls from Kyle Orton while Boldin was on the receiving end of Warner’s throws. HUGE difference, and if Marshall can put up those numbers with Orton, he can do the same w/ Flacco. Not too sure Boldin could do that with Flacco.

Nate Burleson is on my radar

He is a UFA, 6-0, and 28 years old. Any interest?

zzzzzz.....

……same guy as Clayton.

by Bruce Raffel on Feb 27, 2010 1:19 PM EST up reply actions

I hope if this is true that we don’t just pull the trigger too fast.We might be able to get marshall for the same price or close and I think most of us would agree we would rather have marshall. Once marshall is no longer an option I don’t have a problem with this move.

by AV23 on Feb 26, 2010 8:35 PM EST reply actions

No one would be unhappy with either of those guys

and probably not that upset if we had to “settle” w/ TO.
