Ravens lead Saints 21-14 at Half-Time 2nd-Half 'Open Thread'
So far we've seen a good game from the Ravens from both the coaching side and the playing side. Our Offense has been working the way we all love, and our defense has stayed as stout as possible against the top offense in the NFL, excluding the last drive. We should look to see the Ravens extend their lead and make this their 10th win on the year. Keep your comments here throughout the 2nd half, and enjoy the game. GO RAVENS!!!

man…growing up without NFL football, seeing the beloved Colts playing in that red-necked shit-hole, Indiana (Sure they sucked most of the time, still pissed me off seeing the beautiful blue and white being soiled by that fat drunk Irsay). If you would have told me as a kid, that not only would Baltimore have a team, we would be going to the playoffs three years in a row, I would have laughed.
Do I agree with the coaches on everything they do? No, of course not. However, I got to give them their due for the record they got under Harbugh and company.

It's not just fans complaining about our coaches
the players have done it, the coaches themselves have admitted they need to do their job better, and every expert in the world sees how bad this staff is.
Well like I’ve said before, they are obviously the most qualified for the position. We all know how good of a GM Ozzie is, maybe the best in the NFL. Do you think he’d give somebody who’s unqualified the job? No. Ozzie (and the coaches) know better than us, even though we don’t think so.

So if Cameron gets fired in the offseason
what does that mean? Everyone makes mistakes, even Ozzie. We don’t really have a track record around here of excellent offensive coordinators.
We have never needed one
Every time Cam gets canned the team does better the next year. What is Zorn doing with Flacco?
he’s definitely improved his pocket prescence and his ability to extend the play

Let's not lump everyone in with the kids
I grew up with the Colts – in BALTIMORE. And I don’t mean the Bert Jones Colts – I’m talking Unitas and Berry. And unfortunately for your argument, I’ve seen how a 2 minute drill should be run – by the man who invented it.
"Cam Cameron…even his parents where obvious and repetitive." - raven
by GrumpyOldBird on Dec 19, 2010 4:26 PM EST up reply actions
I love Unitas...
but lets not be complete idiots. You take any player from that era and try to have them run their position today, not only would they get beat, they would get killed. The modern day blocking scheme for an offensive lineman is more complex than anything Unitas ran. Players today are more physical and smarter than they ever were back in his time. You cannot compare different players from different eras. For his time, Unitas was greater than any other QB, by far. His completions percentage alone, back in a time when pass interference did not exists, puts him in the hall of fame. Unitas couldn’t be a third string QB in the league today.

yeah you can’t hold everyone to the unitas standard. there’s a whole lot of damn good football players out there, a lot of them hall of famers, who aren’t as good as Unitas. There’s less than 10 players who were better than him.
"CAN WE PLOX STOP PLAYING COVER3 AND QUARTERS WIFF LEAD

--as so eloquently stated by pk_lucifer_pk
As usual
Neither of you understood what was being said. I wasn’t comparing anyone (I assume you think Flacco??) to Unitas. I was comparing Cam Cameron and John Harbaugh’s TERRIBLE play calling to someone who knew how to use the 2 minute drill to actually move down the field and score. Unitas’ knowledge (not even bringing in his ability to perform) of how to run an offense would make him easily the equivalent of whatever “very knowledgeable” current QB you care to mention – Peyton being the usual answer. John could easily have been an OC in today’s NFL. He understood the game and he understood what he needed to do to get it done on the field. Why anyone would assume he would lose that ability if transplanted to the modern era makes no sense at all.
As far as your contention that Unitas wouldn’t have survived in today’s NFL – bullshit! You make some incongruous assumption that he would not have been privy to current defensive formations etc. Why? If he’s playing in this era, he would be just as schooled in recognizing defenses as Brady or Manning are. And certainly as good or better at it than they are. Also, to reverse your argument, Brady and Manning and a host of others would never have, literally, survived in Unitas’ era. The first time someone kicked Brady in the face while he was on the ground (as happened to Unitas, breaking his nose), Brady would retire. John went back in to finish the game. There would be, as UMBC said, no interference penalties to save every borderline QB decision. There were hardly ANY penalties to aid the offense. So Brady or Manning could cry all day about fouls and no one would care. They’d be a LOT less effective than they are in the age of protected prima donnas at QB.

I think you’re responding more to UMBC than me.
I’m just saying that while our clock management isn’t very good, we could do a lot worse, whether you were referring to the players or the coaches that hold true.
"CAN WE PLOX STOP PLAYING COVER3 AND QUARTERS WIFF LEAD

You're right
I was more responding to UMBC than you, but you answered with my alleged holding everyone to a “Unitas” standard and that really wasn’t what I was talking about. So only the first sentence or two was meant to include you.
My initial comment was to BW because in the first half open thread, when it was obvious we were about to allow another late 2nd Q drive to score, I said something and he responded with something to the effect of, “Don’t worry – he [Harbaugh] has got this.” Which obviously he didn’t. He then asked me to apologize – I can only assume for pointing that out. At no time was I trying to make any allusion to John Unitas except to say, in response to earlier in this thread, that a) Not a kid – by any stretch of the imagination and b) I’ve seen firsthand how someone who KNOWS how to run a 2 minute drill does it and Harbaugh and Cameron aren’t those people. But there are, clearly, a number of people in the current NFL who do know how. I meant no comparison to whether any of them beyond Harbs and Cam could do it as well as Unitas.
