Three Ravens Make Peter King's Midseason All-Pro Team
Got an email from Chris Mahr of Sports Illustrated showing which Ravens have made Kings All Pro team so far this year. Here is what King said about our 3 guys.
Three Ravens are featured on Peter King’s (@si_peterking) midseason All-Pro team, tied with the Dolphins for the most in the league: tackle Marshal Yanda, defensive tackle Haloti Ngata and placekicker Billy Cundiff. In addition, Ngata is King’s pick for Defensive Player of the Year. His rationale for these selections:
- Yanda: "His opening-day shift from right guard to right tackle has been a godsend for Baltimore; the fourth-year veteran helps keep Joe Flacco clean (just 10 sacks)."
- Ngata: "At 6' 4" and 350 pounds, the fifth-year veteran is an amazingly strong pass rusher. Opposing O-lines consistently dedicate two blockers to deal with him."
- On why he should be Defensive Player of the Year: "A space eater on a topflight D who commands extra attention and still makes plays."
- Cundiff: "Accurate on field goals (83.3%) and might be even more valuable on kickoffs: The sixth-year veteran leads the league in touchback percentage, at 56.3%."
Here is the entire roster selected by King after the jump.

Where’s the part where he talks about the cupholder in his rental car? Or how he burned his lips on his coffee? I was pretty sure that was all Peter King ever wrote about.

wouldn’t want that to be anywhere near Peter King. For her sake.

I don’t know. He looks like a lady killer to me.

speaking of San Francisco
I just saw Bassnectar last night (for any of you who know who that is) and I have to say he completely blew my head off. If anybody here is into dubstep or any kind of extremely high-energy music, Bassnectar is ya boy.

While I love Ngata, Clay Matthews would be my Defensive Player of the Year.
Dude has been terrorizing QBs and running backs this year.
gotta agree
Matthews has been practically ubiquitous this year. He has enforced his will on offenses in really impressive way. The guy runs around like a savage caveman just beating people senseless.

That team actually is better than I expected coming from Peter King
Yanda is a bit of a shock… is he the best at RT this year?
No surpise with his MVP canidate… wouldn’t expect anyone else from King.
I doubt he's the best really
He has been good for having to switch from guard to tackle though.

Pouncey has been awesome this year, but Mike Williams of the Bucs shouldn't be
overlooked either. I like that kid
I don't think Pouncey will win OROY
just cause he’s a lineman and Sam Bradford has been doing well in St. Louis
Ngata scares the shit out of me

Ngata's versatility
He is a complete player with a better overall grasp of the game. I am not sure I’ve seen anyone mention the fact that the guy has played on BOTH sides of the football. He’s a gifted, athletic and consumate professional, and surely the best D-lineman in the NFL. Although I like Matthews and have watched him play since his days at USC, I think he falls a little short in overall ability when mated against Ngata. Good try though….Second surely isn’t bad…
I havent seen too many steelers games so forgive me
How the hell doesnt Ray Lewis get the best ILB. He ended what four games single-handedly. I guess because timmons has tackles.
Timmons has played really well this year...
At one point he was on pace for 200 tackles, he’s still on pace for over 150 I believe. He’s also a relentless pass rusher when called upon and has made plays in coverage all year. He is finally living up to the potential that was seen in him prior to the draft.
Not saying one was the right pick over the other, just stating Timmons’ case.
I have not yet begun to procrastinate.

Yea, Timmons is playing insane right now. Alot of people are upset by this list because they think it is a “best players in the NFL” type list, but it is simply who has played the best this year.
Ray Lewis is definitely right on Timmons’ tail, because Ray has single handily closed out victories for us (Jets, Steelers, Bills) but I won’t complain about this one.
* Last year, Flacco became the fourth starting quarterback since the AFL-NFL merger in 1970 to reach the playoffs in his first two years in the league (Ben Roethisberger, Bernie Kosar and Dan Marino are the other three).
* Flacco is third on the list for most wins by a starting quarterback (28) since 2008, trailing only the Indianapolis Colts’ Peyton Manning (33) and Drew Brees (29) of the New Orleans Saints. Impressive company.
* Flacco is currently the hottest NFL quarterback. Since the Ravens’ 15-10 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Sept. 19, when he threw four picks, Flacco has the league’s highest quarterback rating at 105.0. He’s also thrown 102 straight passes without an interception.
Go back to Delaware Joe, you are overrated.
It's a really good debate topic...
Unfortunately there is already an answer in this case. Timmons was his pick, and trying to argue who is having the better year is an arguemet with no clear cut right answer.
I have no problem saying that in my lifetime, Ray Lewis is the single greatest defensive player I have ever seen play (I’m 24 for the record, so I never saw a good few players play in their primes). He is still playing really, really good football. If you were completely alien to football, and sat and watched Ray play today, without seeing him ten years ago, you would think he was absolutely great. Problem is he’s not what he was years ago, so that skews some people perspectives a bit, unfairly.
I have not yet begun to procrastinate.

yeah
watching Ray lewis from 1999 and 2000 is still surprising to me. I find myself saying “holy cow I can’t believe anyone could move like that.” I can only really compare it to Jordan, Kobe, Peyton Manning, Emmitt Smith, and those other incredible’s we’ve seen in our lifetimes. (I’m 23.)
