Ravens Sign FB McKie, Waive S Hamlin
The Baltimore Ravens signed eight-year veteran FB Jason McKie Tuesday afternoon, executive vice president/general manager Ozzie Newsome announced.
To create room on the 53-man roster for McKie, Baltimore released S Ken Hamlin.
McKie began the 2010 campaign in training camp with the New Orleans Saints and played in three preseason games before being waived. Seeing action in 16 games (11 starts) for Chicago last season, the 5-11, 247-pounder spent seven years playing for the Bears.
In 88 career games (47 starts), McKie has totaled 29 rushes for 84 yards and three touchdowns. He has also posted 68 receptions for 364 yards and three scores.
Hamlin, who signed with Baltimore this past offseason, played in seven games for the Ravens.

maybe this mean they can start using him to give Leron Mclain
more time to focus on running the ball once he gets healthy
Remember those games where we had Lorenzo Neal and LeRon in at once on 3 and shorts.
Guaranteed 2-3 yards every time.
fullbacks are obsolete
I don’t mind having McClain on the field because he is a baller, but if its going to be some nobody lets put a third wideout on the field.
So...
It’s not looking good for McClain this Sunday, is it?

As for CJ, he’s going to get his. That’s what he does. You can’t hold him under 100 yards, so forget that.

I think we will manage. The defense is at full strength and the pass rush is getting its wings back

I was asking about McClain's chances of playing, not the Ravens' chances of winning

McClain said that he is a lot better and
planning on playing. I thik the other FB was signed just in case. No way they both are active Sunday. Besides, Cameron hasn’t used LeRon too much anyway so it might not be a huge loss and this kid might actually be a better blocker than McClain, who made his name as a runner a couple of years ago, although he pretty much just blocked in college at ’Bama.

he is a good blocker
he has blocked for a few 1300+ yrd seasons so he can get it done.
he will remind you of a more versatile lorenzo neal… actually he is a more polished version of the kid for the jets.
ampallang sup man, where you watching the game this sunday?
that buffalo wild wings on owings mills blvd is a good place to watch fellas if anyone was question where to go…

McClain is a pro bowl level blocker… Not sure why you would think a guy we picked up off the street would be better – if so, I’m pretty sure he’d have been signed before week 13.
McClain is NOT a Pro Bowl level blocker!
the only reason he is a ro Bowl FB is because of hs running rep from a coupe of years ago. Nowhere near Lorenzo Neal or a lot of other blockers. McKie is not known as a runner, so his value is less, but he still may be more willing to sacrifice all to block, and that is more than LeRon prefers to do, as he wants the ball most of all.

he actually was
he was the victim of injuries to the saints causing them to release him to make way for depth at the position…
but Mr. Bruce is dead on Mcclain made the pro bowl playing running back but his position on the depth chart that year was officially running back
they can make room they have already released ken hamlin and im sure if necessary releasing someone like daniel sanders who hasnt played yet, im sure if the need arises for 2 fb’s(mcgahee hurt mcclain moved to rb mckie fb) the ravens and ozzie dont pick up trash remember that

I'm aware of McClain's ability to play RB
But last year he played nearly all traditional full back and made the pro bowl again…yes, it helped that he had the name recognition from playing RB the previous year, but he was also an outstanding blocker. I don’t really know much about McKie so I probably shouldn’t have made the comparison, but I cannot be convinced that McClain is not a good blocker.
yeah
McClain is a total package at FB. he can lead block, he can catch the ball, and he’s dangerous when running with the ball.
Some dude named Ray Rice ran for 1300 yards behind LeRon last year. He can’t be a bad blocker.

you guys got...
a good fullback jason mckie is a great blocker, decent runner and a better receiver than mcclain.
once mcclain gets healthy putting him BEHIND jason will be big.
I was sad he didnt fit into our(bears) offensive gameplan because the man can play.
least now i can cheer for him again since he plays for my hometown team.

I personally would like to see McClain running behind a good fullback again. I still think there was something to our ’08 running game, that when added with our receiver corps this year, would make the offense unstoppable.

but it would come down to losing a CB or a WR to keep an extra FB, and there’s no need to do that.

Oe or the other
will be active. McKie s only an insurance policy. If McClain can go, McKie’s time here will be very limited.

Or...
How about Ngata and Cody?
I thought I had an appetite for destruction. Turns out, all I really wanted was a club sandwich.
