Ravens Roster Moves
In order for the Baltimore Ravens to activate Ed Reed from the Physically Unable to Perform List, there had to be a simultaneous roster move to make room for him. Offensive tackle Jared Gaither was put on Injured Reserve yesterday, which cleared up the roster spot for Reed.
In addition, the team activated Special Teams ace Brendon Ayanbadejo from the PUP List and to add him to the roster, the Ravens released OLB/DE Edgar Jones.

Hmmmmm interesting moves. I know Reed and BA makes this team
alot better. I think this move also tells that there going to be another roster moves becuase i cant see The Ravens going through The Season with only one outside linebacker backup
We have enough OLBs

McClain maybe...
but no way they throw Kruger back there at 275 lbs. No way he has the coverage speed at that weight.
I dont think Mclain would turn into a outside linebacker for us I really think
that Ozzie Newsome may just go after Shawne Merriman or Just bring back Edgar Jones also they could Promote Outside Linebacker Albert Mccellan from practice squad
I would love Merriman. But at this point in his career you have to wonder if he’s really worth signing. He wants to be a starter and in our defense there’s no room. So where would he fit in? I don’t think he would want to come to Baltimore where he would be a back-up whereas he could start for about 50% of the teams in the NFL. I think he will land in Detriot because after trading away Ernie Sims they have an opening at OLB.

We would be signing him to a minimum contract for the rest of this season only. Getting him for that price is worth every bit of it.
He wants to be a starter
Show us where he says he wants to be a starter wherever he goes? He knows by now that at this point in his career, he is not going to be starting until he shows that he can dominate like he used to.
and in our defense there’s no room.
I think Ozzie and the coaches would be more than willing to part ways with a guy like Burgess to make room for Merriman.
I don’t think he would want to come to Baltimore where he would be a back-up whereas he could start for about 50% of the teams in the NFL.
He has already stated that Baltimore is one of the few places he would like to end up at. Miami and Dallas were the others.
Your comments are way too easy. Where do you come up with this stuff? Some of the stuff you say reminds me of the game Yahtzee. Just roll the dice and whatever looks and sounds best to you, is what you will use.

You can say whatever you want. It is just comments such as “we should tag gaither, trade him, then trade him back to us to trade him again” and “Wilson is much better than Fabian” and then you don’t back them up with any factual evidence, just these gut feelings you have, I feel the need to try to enlighten your young mind. I don’t mean any disrespect, just trying to help you get a better understanding of the game of football and how this league works.

What is your take on where the league stands with the current CBA ending in 2011?
How do you see factors such as stadium merchandise, concessions, and construction being affected by this?
What about the fans and how teams with lower economic power are going to operate?
Do you see there really being a problem with increasing net profit in the league or do you think that the existent labor agreement has done an adequate job of staying economically strong during this recession?
How much on an influence will the judicial system have on fixing this quandary?
"Audibles Are Overrated" - Cam Cameron
Awesome topic, and great lead questions. I look forward to your response to Baltimore Warrior’s response.

I'm so glad
MaLoR asked that question, because BW’s answer was just sooooooo bad. I mean, I didn’t think BW’s original comment about Merriman was all that absurd to someone who doesn’t follow the Adam Schefter twitter feed relentlessly. But of course, he took the CBA bait and here we are with another classic thread.

I think the league is split on the new CBA. The NFLPA is preparing it’s members for what looks to be a very possible lock-out for the 2011 season. But the owners are optimistic that it can be signed by the end of the year. Goodell has come out and said that it is “very possible”. But I believe the NFLPA will hinder its progress. Players’ demand for money is going up while a lot of the teams don’t have the financial income to support some of the larger salaries that players are looking for. And I think as salaries go up, so do the costs of ticket prices, merchandise, etc…
To support bigger contracts NFL franchises will need to make higher incomes. Which in turn brings another factor into the equation; Stadium capacity. I believe we are entering an era where stadiums will be built bigger than ever to seat more people. Bigger stadiums mean more seats. More seats means more tickets. More tickets means more income. You are already starting to see bigger and newer stadiums built among NFL in franchises such as the Cowboys, Giants, and Chiefs.
Teams such as the Bills and Jaguars however are having trouble selling tickets, which in turn is resulting in a loss of income. This is where the current problem lies; Teams not being able to support their player’s contracts due to a lack of income. Honestly I don’t see a solution that the NFL can do about this. Teams simply need to play better to get more fans. And I think the recession has a lot to do with this problem. In a time where families are struggling to make ends meet, a lot of families don’t have the financial means to go out blow 150-200 dollars on a game, so they opt to stay home and watch from their couch. So with the economy down, some franchises may need to lower the cost of tickets to attract more fans. And as the economy slowly goes up, I believe the NFL will go up with it.
While I believe the NFL does have a clear problem, I do not believe the judicial system will have to step in. I think in the long-run the league will fix itself through logical business decisions. And I think most fans have the wrong perception of the possibility of a lock-out.. While most believe to view it as a problem, I choose to view it as a stepping-stone to what will be a greater NFL. A better NFL. I think a lock-out is a healthy option for the NFL. Almost a re-set button if you will. It will allow teams to get there shit together before continuing with business.
So to sum it all up, I’m for a lock-out in 2011. Yes it will require fans missing a year of football. But it will allow the NFL to stop a bigger problem long-term. So would you rather take the quick fix by signing the CBA which could result in bigger problems in the future? Or miss a season and allow the NFL to fix what needs to be fixed and start operating properly again and prevent a possible strike and/or a complete dismantlement of the NFL altogether?

points for effort
But I believe the NFLPA will hinder its progress.
Really? These guys can’t afford a season without football. It’s “pray for rain” time for players. They’re going to accept the 18 game season and try not to get bulldozed with too many other demands so that they can play ball in 2011.
To support bigger contracts NFL franchises will need to make higher incomes.
See: 18-game season.
You are already starting to see bigger and newer stadiums built among NFL in franchises such as the Cowboys, Giants, and Chiefs.
Sooooo… these franchises are rich? How does this affect the possibility of a lockout?
Teams such as the Bills and Jaguars however are having trouble selling tickets, which in turn is resulting in a loss of income…Honestly I don’t see a solution that the NFL can do about this. Teams simply need to play better to get more fans.
So how come the Redskins were garbage for so many years but have been profitable the whole time? Likewise, the Tampa Bay Rays’ stadium isn’t even that big, and with as good as that baseball team has been they still can’t sell it out. Obviously, there is a market factor here that you’re ignoring. Good teams can lose money and bad teams can make money. It would seem that Buffalo and Jacksonville aren’t very strong football markets right now.
I think a lock-out is a healthy option for the NFL. Almost a re-set button if you will. It will allow teams to get there shit together before continuing with business.
WHAT?

Wait, wait, wait, I missed that part where you established that a “quick-fix” CBA would threaten the very existence of the NFL. Please, link me to whatever analysis makes this sound rational because at this point I’m inclined to think you’re full of shit.

I think signing Merriman
would be like signing Brady Anderson after his 50 home run season. You have to know you’re not getting fifty again because more than likely he was juicing. Do we really know what Merriman can do off the stuff, and will he hold up the whole year. Who do you kick off the roster for him that you may lose to another team.
Well if he doesnt come here the Ravens only had three choices to add back depth
to the outside linebacker positon and thats to either re-sign Edgar Jones, look at Adarius Thomas to see if he still got a lto left in the tank, or Promote Albert Mccellan from Pratice Squad . I look up infromation about Albert Mccellan he was really good in college just injuries mess him up to get drafted
look at Adarius Thomas to see if he still got a lto left in the tank
I think it is safe to say that judging by the fact that all 32 teams in the NFL haven’t even nibbled at Adalius yet says that he has very little left in the tank.
"Audibles Are Overrated" - Cam Cameron
he has work out for The Bengels and The Jets they just havent sign him
maybe his contract demands are to high, maybe he doesnt have it, maybe he does have it but just havent been sign yet. It took a while for Terrell Owens to get signed to a team becuase I guess most didnt think he still had it and becuase of his character issues. Ladaian Tomison he was suppose to be consider to not have much left in the tank but look at him now, he is a starter for The Jets and he playing lights out
maybe his contract demands are to high …
That’s my gut feeling on the situation. Thomas could probably still be a contributor to some degree, but I don’t think he’s willing to take the pay cut necessary for somebody to sign him. I feel like it’s probably a pride thing for him.

Those two players have absolutely no bearing upon how Adalius Thomas would perform. Just because those two found success on a different team doesn’t mean it will work like that for everybody.

While I will Give Him the Play During the Denver Game
He showed me nothing during the pre-season. In fact, when he played linebacker against other scrubs during the pre-season he looked in waaayyyy over his head.
Didn’t Phillips have that one very solid pre-season game? Maybe the third or fourth game?

I Thought
In the fourth game he got exposed as a child among men. He was getting beat going across his face and behind him -just being turned about as inside out as a linebacker can get. Maybe he did have a swell third game but I do not remember that…
