2010 NFL Draft: Underclassmen Declaring

Thanks to the NFL, here is some information about the college players who were granted eligibility to enter the NFL Draft in April:

53 PLAYERS GRANTED SPECIAL ELIGIBILITY

FOR 2010 NFL DRAFT

The National Football League announced today the names of 53 players who have been granted special eligibility for the 2010 NFL Draft on April 22-24.

The NFL Draft will start in primetime for the first time in 2010.  The first round will be held on Thursday, April 22 at 7:30 PM ET.  The second and third rounds are set for Friday, April 23 at 6:30 PM ET.  Rounds 4-7 will be held on Saturday, April 24 at 10:00 AM ET.  The entire NFL Draft will be televised by NFL Network and ESPN.

Each of the 53 players has met the league’s three-year eligibility rule and each has submitted a written application in which he renounced his remaining college football eligibility.  The deadline for receiving applications was January 15.

The 53 players this year match the total number that was granted special eligibility in 2008.  Last year, special eligibility was granted to 46 players.

Once we get this live draft done over at Mocking the Draft, everyone here will be asking me to draft for Ozzie with the guys I am getting.

Who do you have so far?

First round I took TE Jermaine Gresham from Oklahoma

Second round I took WR Mardy Gilyard from Cinci.

I can deal with that

It would be nice to have a TE that can get some YAC. And a WR that is #1 WR potential. You need to be the GM.

I wouldn’t mind that at all Gilyard definitely look like he could be a very explosive player

No team is complete without a Maurkice, Shawnbrey
or Golden Tater.

Gotta get BRUCE Campbell.

I'll take Golden Tate

But I’m still in man love with Dez (No homo)

Don’t really have a love for either of them. Based on the film I have watched on Tate and Bryant, I have seen many flaws in each. Honestly, none of the WR in this draft should be taken in the first round based on what I have seen.

Blasphemy!

Tate, Benn, Bryant will be first rounders

pre-combine, 40 times of course might change that.

I think Demaryius thomas from georgia tech could be a sleeper. He does need to work on his hands still but he’s 6’3 230 fast and physical and I believe out of guys with 20 or more catches lead the nation in yards per catch. He probably won’t be the answer right away but I could see him being a very big weapon later on.

by AV23 on Jan 24, 2010 6:23 PM EST reply actions

Yea, he is built like Andre Johnson but just is not as explosive as him. Could be a steal if there in the late 2nd round depending on his combine performance. From what I have seen, do not expect him to run anything better than a 4.55 forty.

You have to hate losing more than you love winning.

We need to decide if we want to develop or win now. If we make a commitment to either I’m fine with it. We can’t fart around another year babying Joe. Either draft a few prospects or land a big tuna.

by raven on Jan 24, 2010 7:18 PM EST reply actions

how can you go wrong with a Major Wright.

by raven on Jan 24, 2010 7:21 PM EST reply actions

I do like him.

We could spell his name MaJoR Wright.

You have to hate losing more than you love winning.

by Mr MaLoR on Jan 24, 2010 9:25 PM EST up reply actions

With Gilyard we could have him return punts. I think that is something we really lacked this year. Chris Carr has to be one of the worst punt returners in the league.

by AV23 on Jan 24, 2010 10:32 PM EST reply actions

Chris Carr looks like Kazoo with his little body and huge helmet…ala Chris Johnson.

by raven on Jan 25, 2010 11:44 AM EST reply actions

Carr's helmet

does sit way up on his head, making his neck look long and his head like the Martians in the Jack Nicholson movie, Mars Attacks.

John Dwyer and Joe Linval

These names are talking to me. I can see the future and they will be stars. I have never heard of or seen these guys. Spooky.

by raven on Jan 25, 2010 11:49 AM EST reply actions

Dwyer is damn good

I think he is going to be better than Spiller. Bigger body and fresher legs. He was not relied on as much as Spiller and still put up great numbers. If we get rid of McGahee, I would not mind picking up Blount, McKnight or Dwyer. Hell even Gerhart.

You have to hate losing more than you love winning.

Dwyer’s a good name. Jim Dwyer was one of my favorite Orioles. Mr. Clutch. I remember when he grabbed the late Allen Wiggins near the batting cage in a scuffle. Years later, poor Allen died of AIDS. Tragic story.
