Derrick Mason Returning to the Ravens!

According to the team:

WR Derrick Mason is sending a letter to the NFL stating his intention to return to the Baltimore Ravens. He is expected to join the team Sunday on the field.

I received this email from the team and it is exactly what so many of us were either thinking or at least hoping. While that might make the competition for additional playing time tougher for guys like Marcus Smith, Justin Harper and others, it certainly does bolster our receiving corps and gives us even more depth than we had at this point last season.

Joe Flacco's favorite receiver will probably be mobbed by the media and fans tomorrow at Training Camp, but I will try to get some quotes when he finishes practice in the morning.

Didn't see it

FanShots show up along the sidebar closer to the bottom of the page, so I don’t always see them before I post my own stories.

But thanks for letting me know and keep on posting!

Nobody ever really reads fanshots, anyways. It’s kind of like how raven always posts at the very bottom so it’s pretty easy to skip.

Water covers 2/3 of the Earth's surface. Ed Reed covers the rest.

Alright!

Wake up from a 5 hour nap to see such great news! Got some videos and pictures to put up from todays practice.

Aw

that has to be phenomenal news to wake up too! Even better would be signing a Brandon Marshall/ Anuqan Boldin in ADDITION to Mason returning :)

Ravens...who else?

Just don't see it

I can understand Boldin, he is a standup guy on top of being a great WR, but Marshall is and probably always will be trash. He may have talent but he can keep it…

ruling...

changed his mind or gave up squeezing the team for a pay raise?

You think you notice most everything around you, but in reality you're nearly blind to everything outside of your current focus. Hilarious example.

Damn it stay retired.

He is the anti-Drew Bennett.

Bennett comes back and retires a few days later.

Mason retires and comes back soon after

Hate to say it, but it must

There are quietly more than a few WR’s in camp who are never going to say anything about it, but are real disappointed that they are being pushed back down on the depth chart.

I still wouldn’t mind signing Matt Jones. Our WR would be complete for next year if we picked him up. Won’t happen most likely, but this group we still have now really excites me after some of the stuff I saw this weekend from them.

only if

You can keep a bottle out of his hand and straw or rolled up dollar bill out of his nose or a glass pipe out of his mouth and have him tested daily…

I think he is over all that

Or else he would be in even more serious trouble. He messed up early in his life but has matured and publicly came out to say that this part of his life is behind him. I think Matt Jones is ready to play football and I would welcome him to Baltimore.

I would as well, but..

…word amongst those in the know up in Westminster is that there’s NFW he’s on our radar.

Dammit :)

As much as I hate to see a good weapon on the Ravens, I’m happy for you that there will be less contention at the #1 WR spot this year.

On the other hand, healthy competition is what makes normally mediocre players into superstars, as they must play their best to win a roster spot. Crap…

Congratulations, butt pirates :P

Thank you drive through...

even the refs won’t save you this year, iron ore outsourcers.

by raven on Aug 2, 2009 8:38 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

why pitts little run is over:
1. ben has been badly beaten up over the years and is a hit away.
2. sweed is a bum
3. holme’s head is mistakenly inflated after last year
4. o-line stinks and ben ran for his life last year.
5. troy can’t get any help.
6. moore folds up like a beach chair upon initial contact.

why we will run over them:
1. flacco has now seen it all…and looking for the SB
2. rice who burnt the steelers the few times he touched the ball will break out.
3. Oher
4. McClaine officially a vet and pro-bowler to boot.
5. McGahee re-focused
6. Landry will not allow those missed tackles that plagued us against Pitt. last year.
7. Suggs paid and happy-ben in trouble.
8. Ngata goes to pro-bowl this year.
9. kelly gregg is back. no ground game possible for pitt this year.
10. harbaugh not a rookie and cam will show more than 1/2 a playbook..that almost beat pitt. 3 times.

I LIKE IT!

First sign of optimism in a while. Mason coming back have anything to do with that?

yeah, you and bruce have worked so hard it’s the least I can do. i didn’t think you guys would actually be there every friggin day following this stuff. it’s the coolest string of stories since Kornheiser did his Band Wagon to Minnesota back in ‘92. i enjoyed tony’s writing when i was a lot younger and, frankly, not very wordly. since then, i have been all over the state.

I will only be going thursday, friday, saturday, sunday during camp because of summer classes at college park. So Rexx will have to pick up the slack (like he hasn’t been already) during the week. Camps should start to get alot more physical as they move on. There were alot of ticky tacky tackles out there this weekend, except from what I heard happened today.

But we will start to see more formations as we get deeper into camp. Next week and the few days following the weekend should be pretty interesting because the first preseason game is a week from this coming Thursday. Going to try to keep covering as much as I can.

Practice is EVERY day

and twice a day (8:45am & 2:45pm) except when noted. They stay up in Westminster until the 23rd. when they break camp and move back to Owings Mills after Redskins game and roster cuts.

NOTE: Guys, I will be out of town from 8/10-15. PLEASE do whatever you casn to post stories and FanPosts. Those that have Front PAge access should really look to see if anything current has been posted by one of you and place a story on the Front Page. I could use the consistent help when I’m gone.

Thanks!

I can see it now:

“The Steelers are only going to beat us twice this year! How’s that for positive?”
