What Are The Predicted Standings For The AFC North In 2009-10? Pt.2: The Baltimore Ravens
On the CincyJungle blog we're doing a poll wit the AFC North to Predict The standings so who else would know more about how many games their team is gonna win than the fans, so I would appreciate if you guys participated in voting I would appreciate that very much
ALL INFO IS PROVIDED BY WALTERFOOTBALL.COM:
Season Summary:
One sensational rookie quarterback is unheard of, but two in the same season? Joe Flacco didn't post the numbers that Matt Ryan compiled, but perhaps his run was more impressive, given that he took his team deeper into the playoffs and he had less to work with than the Falcon signal-caller. While Baltimore has finally found its quarterback, the team will have to hunt for a new defensive core soon, as Ray Lewis, Chris McAlister, Samari Rolle, Trevor Pryce, Kelly Gregg and Ed Reed are all in their 30s.
2009 NFL Draft Picks:
23. Michael Oher, OT, Ole Miss
One of the top picks in the first round. Ozzie Newsome can only thank the other idiot NFL general managers for letting Michael Oher slip. Baltimore's getting a top second-tier prospect who provides great positional value. (Pick Grade: A)
57. Paul Kruger, DE, Utah
Can Paul Kruger play on Baltimore's three-man defensive line? He'll have a year or two to mature into that role. Kruger is solid value here, and the Ravens had to find a future starter at 3-4 end. (Pick Grade: B)
88. Lardarius Webb, CB, Nicholls State
Lardarius Webb isn't great value here, but he was in the Round 4-5 range, so I don't consider this a reach. Webb fills a need at corner and can return kicks. However, I don't know why the Ravens aren't addressing the receiver position. (Pick Grade: C)
137. Jason Phillips, ILB, TCU
Jason Phillips was a fringe second-round prospect before suffering a pre-draft injury. Leave it to Ozzie Newsome to steal him in Round 5. Phillips could be Ray Lewis' successor. (Pick Grade: A)
149. Davon Drew, TE, East Carolina
Todd Heap has really fallen off and L.J. Smith is horrendous. Ozzie Newsome once again makes a solid value pick. (Pick Grade: A)
185. Cedric Peerman, RB, Virginia
Outstanding value once again... I guess Ozzie Newsome really knows what he's doing, huh? Cedric Peerman could have gone in the third round without any complaints. (Pick Grade: A)

Offseason Moves:
Divisional Rival History:
Cincinnati Bengals: Prior to the 2008 season, the Bengals had won six of seven in this rivalry. Baltimore pulled off the sweep this year.
Cleveland Browns: The new Browns swept the old Browns in 2007, but the old Browns returned the favor, sweeping the new Browns in 2008. Confused?
Pittsburgh Steelers: The host dominates this rivalry, winning 12 of the previous 14 matchups. Pittsburgh won all three battles in 2008, though they were helped by Walt Coleman in Baltimore. The opinions posted here are those of the administrator of this blog and his loyal readers. They are in no way official comments from the team, and should not be misconstued as such, even though he thinks he could do just as well or even a better job!

12-4 can still take the division. Tennessee, the Bengals (possibly), Chicago (now with a QB), the Vikings, and Green Bay are all going to be tough. And you play Baltimore twice.
Water covers 2/3 of the Earth's surface. Ed Reed covers the rest.
I have the Ravens going 13-3. We’ll lose to the Patriots, at Pittsburgh, and one other game in the division (possibly at the Bengals, but not to the Browns).

The Colts will be a tough match up, but we have some serious depth at cornerback this season, so Manning won’t spend 60 minutes picking us apart. And I’ve kind of been buying into Bengals-as-sleepers conspiracy theories. Either they’ll beat us in Cincinnati, or the Steelers will sweep us again.

I can see a 12-4 record,
with tough road losses at Pittsburgh, NE and perhaps one of the NFC North away games. Then we’ll win a couple that we’ll be thought to lose and will lose a game that we should win. Either way, it should be enough for the playoffs, but the big question will be is it enough for the AFC North title?

i would answer the creator of this decent post but....
his jackass comment at the end is a total turnoff. “new browns”. so old. everything is new once. go get our colts brand back so we can at least hang it in our closet or put it in a museum. the browns never left cleveland. when you visit other sites make sure you call them the new redskins (sorry boston), new rams (sorry LA), new titans (sorry houston), new cardinals (sorry st. louis). you should kiss or ass for having the decency to keep your history where it belongs- in cleveland. another city would have taken it all away from you. you should thank Model.

10-6
Big run in the playoffs.
My best game plan is to sit on the bench and call out specific instructions like 'C'mon Boog,' 'Get ahold of one, Frank,' or 'Let's go, Brooks.' -Earl Weaver
Assuming that 10-6 will even get us into the playoffs, how do you expect us to make a big run if we can’t beat anybody in the regular season that we’ll be playing in the post season? Unless you have us losing to Kansas City, Cleveland, Denver, Cleveland, Detroit, and Oakland.

*cough*Arizona*cough* Think about it. How many times have you seen teams lose in the regular season and win in the playoffs. Arizona last year, Giants before, the Steelers years back. Hell last year the Ravens lost to the Titans and won in the playoffs. Playoffs are a whole new ball game so 10-6 could easily make an playoff push.
Yes, you are right
But that is in the very weak NFC. The AFC is by far the strongest in football, and it is tough to make a run at the Superbowl when you are the wild card and have already lost to the teams you will be facing in the playoffs.
See, we are talking about the Colts, Chargers, and now Brady is back for the Pats. And guess what, the Ravens play all three of them this year. If the Ravens allows Manning and Brady to pick us apart in the regular season, they are going to have a better chance of doing it again in the playoffs than the Ravens are going to have at stopping it.
And you don’t need to cough, I am very aware that Pitt did it in 2005. Ravens came close to it last year though. I am also interested, where do you see 6 losses coming from? Well, 4 cause I know you pick Pitt to beat us twice.
You have to hate losing more than you love winning.
too hard to have to to play 3 playoff games after our brutal match ups. nobody in the league could have beaten tenn and pitt to get to the SB. pitt couldn’t beat tenn to get to the SB.
Agreed
after beating three division champs, if we got to the SB, the Steelers victory would have been “our Super Bowl!” The Arizona game would have ben secondary, as we’d be able to say all this season that WE made the Super Bowl an beat Pittsburgh in their crib to get there. Alas, we did not. So nevermind.

pitt is just a mental hurdle. thats starts with the coaches. we played scared on O against worthy opponents. the conservative play was supposed to help flacco but a someone pointed out flacco was about 24 for 75 in the playoffs. that is horrid. harbaugh and cam better show some balls against pitt this year and get off the d’s back.
I believe that was Cam more than John
and now with a full off season, the reins come off even more, if not completely. Cameron will show why he ws named the Best O-Coordinator in the league this year as our offense is a top 12 in the league.

Is that the score of our first Browns meeting?
Cause I was thinking more like 38-3. If that is your record for the Ravens, you are nuts. Name me the 6 losses please. And please pick the teams that every other average football fan picks.

San Diego, Minnesota, New England, Indy
2 conference games.
I could just as easily see you all getting 11 or 12 though.

Exactly what I thought you say
Very conventional as I expected.
You have to hate losing more than you love winning.
It is what I expected
Every time I ask people who do not follow the Ravens, they say 9-7, 10-6 every time. I ask them who the losses are. And its always SD, Indi, NE some scrub and 2-3 conference games.
You have to hate losing more than you love winning.
Classic, boring answers.
Ask anyone outside of Baltimore and they always err to the easy answer.

Exactly
I wasn’t trying to be rude, BAL_Hawk, but those are the conventional answers I get from anyone outside of the Ravens fan base.

Geez, Dan
Pick a side and stick with it! Kids or adults, now that you’re an adult, or at least numerically, you’re one of “us!” HA!

I wouldnt be that surprised. Manning does hate the coaching staff. I think we should write rumors on rivals.com that peyton manning wants out
