1st Round Choice - OT Michael Oher from Ole Miss: 2nd Round Open Thread
The Ravens traded up to the 23rd spot in the first round with the New England Patriots to take OT Michael Oher. We have given up our pick at 26 and our 5th round pick (162 overall) This means that we have solidified our O-Line for many years to come with another young, first round talent now playing Right Tackle for us. Now that the first round is over with, who will we be taking in the 2nd round?

Good pick by the Lions here
I cannot believe Maualuga is still on the board!
You have to hate losing more than you love winning.
Wow its been a weird draft I had the Steelers getting C Alex Mack from California. O-line should have been adressed there but i can see how they wanna shore up the D-line first.

This is insane
How is Maualuga still here!!!!!!!!!!!!!????
You have to hate losing more than you love winning.
What about Gaither now
will he be moved to RT or will Oher. dont think anquan will be traded and lets hope we get robinskie
Gaither can stay where he is.
I think Oher is versatile and athletic enough to move to the RT.
yeah i agree
and he gets to learn from Big WIllie

Ramses Barden
Only guy I really see being 2nd round worthy
You have to hate losing more than you love winning.
I like Jared Cook with the 2nd pick, if...
Darius Butler or Sean Smith isn’t there.
Man...
Two of my favorite players went to our rivals. Robo to the Brownies… Maualuga to the Bengals. I’m just glad that the Browns didn’t get Rey.
Yea I agree
But Bengals got the 2 USC guys now
Rivers and Maualuga. That is a really good pair right there
You have to hate losing more than you love winning.
probably cause
Rivers was injured for most of the season
Baltiomore goes TE in 2nd?
By the way, clevland just picked another WR. Mo Massaquoi. Good pick?
FEAR THE NEVERMORE DEFENSE!!!!!!!!!!!!
I guessing TE Jared Cook.
But they could draft Sean Smith CB, if he is still around. Another player would Jarron Gilbert DE, who jumped out of a swimming pool. There is also this player name Paul Kruger DE out of Utah is a solid player. Anyone of those players would work for me.
Browns are pathetic
They dont address one of the worst defenses in the NFL what so ever. Their CB’s are very weak. No edge pass rusher.
I think Ravens grab the TE Ingrum out of Florida here or WR Ramses Barden.
You have to hate losing more than you love winning.
they should have got orakpo

I love some Paul Kruger.
He utterly destroyed Alabama in that BCS game.
The Colts traded up to take Moala...
…right before the Ravens. I think that Moala would have been the pick if the Colts hadn’t traded up.
The dude is a really good player.
He didn’t get much pub during the draft process, but I think he has been underrated by experts.
Here some fun war room footage of Baltimore when they picked Michael Oher. http://www.baltimoreravens.com/media_library/Videos/New_Media_Exclusives/2009/04/war_room_raw.aspx?id=7d13ab2ce1624c718fe52aeb296325f7

I like what I saw
The guy looks like he has a nice second gear after getting past the line man. Could be a ferocious player with us. Im excited about his chances.

The dude is gonna be amazing
First thing he said to Jon Harbaugh was “I cant wait to go to work”
Our kind of guy. I think everyone should be extremely happy with this pick
You have to hate losing more than you love winning.
It seems to me...
That every player that they’ve selected in the Harbaugh era has made a statement about the type of team that they’re building. Selecting guys like Zbikowski, Nakamura, Rice, Oher, Kruger and obviously, Flacco makes a big statement about the character and resolve of the Ravens front office and coaching staff. I love the team that they’re building.
I’m firmly on-board!
shocked ...
… that they traded up for oher when maualuga was still on the board.
… that they took kuger when sean smith was on the board.
… that we are in round 3 and no wr picked and no boldin.
but still these were need positions and we got two studs to fill them. we’re a better team today.
The Ravens don’t draft according to needs… I believe that they took the best players available in this draft. I’m fired up.
i didn't say they were need picks
oz traded up for oher because he had great value at a position where we had a need
both were value picks where we had a need
big difference

or in the words of Eric DeCosta ...
“None of us like to give picks away, but when a player is that good and he’s such a need and it’s a perfect DNA match – you do it. It just fell that way, and we’re ecstatic to get him.”
how do you put pics on here?

I don’t know how to put pics on here but here’s a funny one of Ozzie. You’ve probably seen it before. http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/sports/thetoydepartment/2009/04/yoda_newsome_is_on_the_clock.html

Putting up photos
You have to click on the little picture of the tree in the box just above this line when posting a comment. Then you can either search the web and import it or upload one of your own photos.

Solid Picks
Nothing flashy about these two. These are cant miss players. Google Oher, this guy is tough. Harbaugh is putting his stamp on this team (with help from Oz).
Oher makes our offense better...
Thinking about how stacked our O-Line is gives me chills. Oher will come in and lock down the right side, allowing Heap to run routes again, and giving us the option of putting a 3rd receiver on the field, because we won’t have the Jumbo package in as much. This is a GREAT pick, and I am so excited about the possibilities. Michael Oher is a BEAST. One step closer to beating the Steelers.
Ravens pulls another great first day
We got one heck of a pick by getting Michael Oher with the 23rd pick.
Also, Paul Kuger is a guy who fits perfectly with the Ravens where his versatility and toughness can provide a lot of need.
I like how the Ravens draft two strong picks to bolster the both side of the line.
The Ravens are going with great philosophy that football is won in the trenches.

Michael Oher is a character guy.
This man has been through ALOT! He actually has a book written about his struggle, and it’s not ordinary book. It’s a NY Times best seller!
I just love the character of this team!
What will be difficult for me to take
is seeing Robiskie and especially Maualauga lining up against us in Ceveland and Cincy, respectively. Ifr we had traded up again for Rey it would have thrilled me.
But Ozzie has my trust and I guess he has it all planned out.

Oher is a better value overall.
Maualuga is the more exciting player, and I would have loved to have him. Still… I’m very pleased with the draft so far.
