The Baltimore Ravens officially released veteran CB Samari Rolle today, after speculation arose last week that he would be released as early as this past Monday. Rolle is now free to seek the best deal he can get on the open market.
However, Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome is reported as saying that he would be open to taking Rolle back, albeit in a lesser role and at a much lower salary than the $4.1 million he was due to be paid if he had remained a Raven. I'm sure Samari will look to see what his services are worth in free agency. However, once he finds out that there is not much of a market for older, slower, regularly beaten corners who are looking for big bucks and a multi-year deal, then perhaps he will be knocking on Ozzie's door at some point in the near future.
Otherwise, this is a business and the Ravens needed this cap space that Rolle's release brings the team. Sort of the "addition-by-subtraction" theory. However, we thank Samari for his time and efforts as a Baltimore Raven, and wish him the best of luck and health in his future endeavors.
