Samari Rolle to be released!
According to ESPN's John Clayton, the Baltimore Ravens are reportedly set to release veteran CB Samari Rolle. Rolle, who was due to receive over $4 million in salary this coming season, was the odd man out once Baltimore signed Domonique Foxworth to a big free agent contract a couple of weeks ago to start alongside Fabian Washington. The Ravens might have considered using Rolle as their nickel back, but certainly not at that salary. The 32 year old Rolle still has something left in the tank, so he should be able to sign on with another team, but not at his current rate. While he did play decent for the Ravens since returning from his issues with his epilepsy, he always was picked on when starting opposite the former Raven, Chris McAlister, who also was released this off season and still has not found a future home.
This means that the Ravens will still be in the market for a corner, be it through free agency or perhaps after the NFL Draft in late April.
The opinions posted here are those of the administrator of this blog and his loyal readers. They are in no way official comments from the team, and should not be misconstued as such, even though he thinks he could do just as well or even a better job!

Wonderful
Like the move. There are still a few good names out there in Free Agency. And even though there is a select few of CB’s who I think should go in the first round, the later picks on the first day and early into the second day should help us. Would not be surprised if the Ravens draft 2 Cornerbacks within the first 4-5 picks.
Cya Samari, thanks for everything.

I don't
Think they should have cut him. He might have been hurt a lot, But he’s better than whoever is going to replace him. And he would have been a better nickle then Frank Walker. But, He did ask to be released. The only good things are the Cap space and the fact that we’re getting younger.

Frank Walker
Can stay on the field. Samari made a lot of money for the amount of time he spent on the field. I think it was a good move. That said, he did a great job for us.

Samari Rolle played well when healthy last year
I’m disappointed that we’re releasing him. I thought the idea behind the foxworth signing was that we would have 3 good corners. It’d be really nice to have 3 good corners for once.

From what I’ve heard, it might not have been the Ravens that wanted it this way. They asked him to take a pay cut for the second time in two years, but he refused and decided he wanted to be released or traded. The request for the pay cut seems fair to me, given that he’s lost a step and he probably would be just a nickelback.

This just in.......Baltimore Sucks! : )

you can have all the tanks in the world but if you don’t have General Patton or Montgomery they’ll just bottle up and get crushed. That’s why Ray is the man…on toothpicks.

Look for Rolle to be released on Monday, saving us a bit over $4million in cap space. Interestingly, the article mentions that we may be interested in signing CB’s Chris Carr and Jarrett Bush, and ex-Rams receiver Holt. With about $6million left in cap space, I’d prefer to see us use the draft to add depth to the secondary (especially since Walker is relegated to nickelback), and pick up a veteran receiver through free agency.

If he's thinking
that he’s gonna get more than $4 million on the free agent market, he’s sadly mistaken. And if he thinks that going to the Jets, who already have the great Corey Ivy, where’s his playing time coming from and he should say goodbye to the post season for the rest of his career.
Thanks for everything Samari, and stay healthy.

This just it
Ravens signt Chris Carr to a Two-Year $5million deal. This provides depth at corner and give us a decent kick returner to replace Jim Leonard. Good move, Now lets get Torry Holt!

I guess that’s cool. But can we afford Holt if we just dropped cash on Carr?

Most likely
We didn’t spen much on Carr, as you can see, And Holt won’t too cost much.

I wonder...
…if Rolle’s departure changes our draft strategy. I don’t think so. The Ravens may take a corner in the second round now instead of the third, but I’m still thinking that we will take a WR in the first round. Ozzie may move down in the first to get a higher second round pick… He could even move out of the first round and get 2-3 second round picks. If all of the good wide-outs are gone by 26, that may not be a bad idea. There probably won’t be a run on receivers, but you never know.

If we go WR the first round,...
we’lll probably wait until the third to go TE and use 2nd rounder to take best player available.

That’s my hope. If we can pick up a solid veteran in free agency, that will give us time to develop the young blood in our receiver corp while Holt (or whomever) adds that immediate threat. With Washington, Foxworth, and Carr, we have a solid secondary in place. Our receivers should be our next big concern.
