Two NFL Players Among Four Missing At Sea
Detroit Lions DE Corey Smith and Oakland Raiders LB Marquis Cooper were among four boaters on a 21 foot boat owned by Cooper that went on a fishing trip off of Clearwater, Florida and have not returned as of Sunday afternoon. Seas were fine when they left but have grown very choppy although no rain has been reported.
Hopefully, this is all a case of poor communication. In the meantime, everyone's prayers should go out to the families for the safe return of those missing. Click here for the story from Yahoo Sports.

Crazy
I read about that this morning. How do you just disappear like that? Hope everything gets cleared up

Still no updates on these guys.
They also said that 2 former Univ. of South Florida football players were on board as well with these 2 players. I really hope they are off at some crazy party and get no phone reception.
I just stayed up ALL NIGHT studying for 2 tests today only to find out that UMD is closed. 3 inches of freaking snow, gotta love it.

Hey it could be worse
UMBC just keeps moving the start time back rather than just calling it. We are one of the few schools still trying to open…Makes a lot of sense since we are 70% commuters….
It sad that we tend to forget these NFL players are people. We get presented characters by the national media and we tend to forget they have friends and family that depend on them. I did 6 years in the navy…ain’t no feeling worse than being stuck in the middle of nowhere on the water, on a crippled boat.

thats scary for sure and, like everyone, I hope they are just drifting somewhere and get picked up soon..there’s crazy ass pirates down there that steal boats for drug trafficking etc..that would be f’d up but who would want to board a boat with those bruisers. they should have taken Plexico and PacMan.
i got stuck in Loch Raven resevoir when the rigged car battery/electric motor died on my canoe….I had to friggin paddle 20 yards to shore in a panic.

They found one of the guys
clinging to the boat. It was one of the South Florida guys and I don’t have too much hope for the others.

Here's a sick sea story
They used to do this thing on my carrier called a steel beach picnic. Basically they would lower the elevators down the side, post some guys with riffles to placate those nervous about sharks, and let people go swimming off the side. Well they stopped doing it cause they kept forgetting to tell reactor and engineering department when they doing these stupid things. With people over the side, we have to shut off pumps, close valves, and make sure we aren’t discharging anything. Well the last Steel Beach Picnic we ever did, we blew the shit tanks over with people in the water. Boy we never heard the last of it…especially as Hep went through the crew with a vengeance.

The mess up part
Our pumps and inlet piping are big enough to easily suck someone into it. Not only would we kill them, they would clog up our heat sinks and could cause some really heavily issues with the reactors. I had a buddy of mine on one of the carriers that responded to the killer tidal wave in India or whatever a few years ago…they were pulling bodies out of their condensers. Worse I even had to do was pull out chunks of fish. I knew a lot of mechanics of that boat that got out for PTSD from that little cruise.

well….not looking good…Schuylar (sp) is in critical condition and he at least had the boat to sit on…the other guys are just floating out there somewhere. 21 footer is a small boat for being way out there.

Dear God, that is horrible!
All we can do is pray and hope that the best could come.
That said, realistically I don’t see them making it out alive.
I don't need no instructions to know how to rock!

so many questions….i don’t get why they didn’t all hang onto the overturned boat..maybe once it flipped they got caught in strong currents and were swept away from it that quickly..who knows but you’d think they would have ended up near the boat and were able to grab on….what a mess.

High waves and rough seas
plus strong currents make it real hard to do what you want. Especially when you’re on landbehind a computer, making judgements. Try making decisions with salt water up your nose, in your lungs, while panicing.

At 6:30 today, the U.S Coast Guard will be suspending their search for the 3 remaining men.
Right now, I am watching CAPT. Timothy Close give his take on the progress of the search, and he just seems to upset to be giving out this information. I can only imagine how hard it must be to say that you will be giving up on the search for 3 lives, but they said they did 250+ hours of searching covering 24,000 square miles of water. They found 2 life vests 60 miles away from the flipped over boat.
Hopes are diminishing and it is just a terrible moment for the NFL and these young men’s families

Its sad
cause I am willing to bet none of them were wearing life preservers. I am sure they had them on the boat, but like way too many boaters do, they weren’t wearing them when it happened.

Today I read
although this story has not been confirmed to all the details.
All four had life vests on that Cooper swam under the capsized boat to get for them. After two to four hours first one of the NFL guys said he’d had enough, took off his vest and drifted away, then the other did the same, leaving the two S. Florida guys. Perhaps that’s why they reported finding two floating life vests. Finally one thought he saw a light in the distance and said he was going to swim for it and did.
Horrible tragedy for all, the players, families, searchers, league, etc.
