Ravens GM Hopes to keep Defensive FA's

According to an article by the Baltimore Sunpaper's Ken Murray, Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome stated that he is still hoping to keep the defensive stalwarts who were planning on testing the free agent market as Ravens in the near future. Free agency begins this week and both Ray Lewis and Bart Scott figure to garner a ton of interest on the open market when they hit it. However, Ozzie has other plans and is working on contract offers to keep them in the purple and black next season and beyond.

Newsome reportedly also is planning on retaining center Jason Brown, a key fixture on the rapidly improving young offensive line. However, he did acknowledge that he does not have the same hope for both safety Jim Leonhard and veteran kicker Matt Stover, the only remaining member of the original Cleveland Browns team that moved here in 1996.

Ray Lewis is bluffing

I just can’t believe that Ray would take less money to go play on a dallas team who have more problems then any other team in the last decade. Ray is just tryin to bait baltimore into spending as much money as possible on him. If i was baltimore, i would let him hit the open market and see what type of deal he really think he can get. let another team offer him a deal and match it. If he wants to leave, then let him go and re-sign Bart.

FEAR THE NEVERMORE DEFENSE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Agree 100%….
1. He would have to win over new fans and every missed tackle would be criticized as over-paid and old age. In B-more, we would look at his life’s work and give him Mulligans until the end. I don’t think the years of B-more field leadership will transfer like he hopes. With all the hype of being a motivation guru it might seem too contrived by new teammates to work. There’s a difference when it’s your house (B-more) instead of a 2 year renter (Dallas). The residents will treat you different and not clog the drains when your not looking.

2. New system at 34
3. No Ed Reed to mop up behind him.
4. No 2nd ranked D.
5. No Ngata to spare him a direct RB blast.
6. No old love…
Like Chris Rock says “new _ _ _ _ _ ain’t gonna bring ya soup when ya sick. But, the old _ _ _ _ _ will. He also said, "Ya don’t wanna be the old guy in the club.”

See ya in September Ray.

Good points

I just can see Demarcus Ware saying, “You want me to hold up the o-line so YOU can make the tackle, Ray? NFW, I’m getting the stats old man!”

Yup

So a team full of egotistical maniacs is gonna let Ray come in and just be the automatic leader of a team he has no clue about? Just does not make sense. Sure, a lot of people dont want to talk back to Ray, but you really think T.O is gonna back down? Hell no. All that Ware talk is bullshit. If this was said at the pro bowl, then why is it coming out 2 weeks after? I just feel that story upon story got passed along and the words got changed everytime. You know, that high school gossip.

You have to hate losing more than you love winning.

I remember one popular clip of Ray going on after a play and an opposing vet heading back to his huddle pleads outloud “come on Ray”..in a tone like ‘Come on man enough already with the BS. I’m concentrating on the game.’ that might be a new teams attitude.
