What's your opinion Beatdown fans?

My top 3 priorities in FA is to 1 - sign Suggs longterm, 2 - sign Brown longterm and 3- give Ray his last contract. In that order. Do you agree, or do you think it is more important to keep Ray as the most important move in the offseason.

Our needs for the draft are reasonably easy to see. What is more important to you? Drafting a playmaking WR with the #1 or a top cover corner with the #1 (realizing that if value for the pick is not there, you aren't going to be stupid and draft for pure need). Personally, I think CB is a bigger need, even if a guy like DHB or Nicks might be available at our position in the draft.

If Jason Brown leaves, do you take your #1 or #2 and spend it replacing him, or do you let Chris Chester slide over into the position?

Who is your sleeper pick for the Ravens in the first round? Be realistic though - Curry isn't dropping that far, but say if Pettigrew the TE is available, do you tap him?

Think about it....

We dont let Jason Brown go

No way we should do that. He is too valuable. If we are planning to build this offense around Joe, we are going to need to keep the O-Line we got now. They are so young and talented and I feel they could be one of the top Lines in the league if we could keep Gaither, Grubbs, Brown, Yanda, Terry together.

I just hope Ray comes to his senses and figures out that this is the team he needs to be on. I dont even want to think how I would feel if he left for another team.

All solid thoughts

Suggs is settled here, for now. Ray needs to be signed, regardless of $$$. Sorry, guys but his contribution on and off the field is just too valuable to underestimate or let go. Brown is very good but to give him Jordan Gross $$$ (+$40 million) is not worth it, as Chester can slide over and we can draft in mid-ate rounds another true center. Depending on what plays out in the next week or so after FA begins, that will determine whether we go CB or WR in the draft. However, knowing Ozzie, we may just take the highest rated player regardless of position, which could end up being a TE or OL.

out of all years to set aside the “best player available” plan its this year- get a WR. its the edge we need and we’re ready to make a run.

by raven on Feb 23, 2009 1:40 PM EST reply actions

1) Brown- quickly becoming a quiet star
2) Suggs- can’t win without DE pressure
3) Ray- dancing folk hero
4) Receiver- we are competing against Pitt. and I don’t fear their receivers (We need LB’s who can cover the pass against them). I do fear we have but 1 receiver and that didn’t work too well in the AFC Champ..)…by the way has anyone seen Ray Rice yet..short guy..on the team..from Rutgers…available for the Pitt game…

My thoughts....

1)Suggs is alright for now with the tag but the organization needs to keep him happy throughout the year for when we need to negotiate.
2) I think getting Bart Scott signed is more important that Ray Lewis. We can get Scott at a much cheaper rate, lock him in long term…and the man wants to play the rest of his career here. Ray-Ray is either going to follow the money and end up somewhere like fucking Detroit, or he will realize that this is the only club with a chance for a Superbowl run willing to make the salary cap room. If he goes, more power to him. Earlier in his career, when he was out for a bunch of games, Bart Scott took over his position and the D remained dominant. Scott’s numbers went down this year in sacks but his coverage of TE was awesome. He basically the same job that him and AD used to do together. I think we get more bang for the buck with keeping Scott happy than throwing piles of money at an aging linebacker that has made it known, he is at best a mercenary.

"When they get drafted by the Baltimore Ravens, we expect them to play like that. Are we surprised? No."

Beautifully said!

Water covers 2/3 of the Earth's surface. Ed Reed covers the rest.

I don't want anyone to think

I want Ray playing for anyone other than us…That said, it doesn’t make sense to me for the organization to shoot themselves in the foot if he wants the highest dollar possible. You can’t use emotion or even what the common fan wants…thats what has screwed teams in the past. In today’s football, GM’s pretty much need to be the guys that make those tough decisions. I am not going to look down on Ray or negate the fact that the Ravens as we love them, and the rest of the NFL hate them, is directly because of him if he follows the dollars. Its his right and to be honest, after the Tex situation with the Orioles/Washington where he acted like he gave two shits to our fan bases, I rather prefer the fact that Ray is open with his loyalties.

All that said, if he thinks for a split second he can go to a locker room like the Cowboys and think he can act like he does in Baltimore…shit that is going to be a hundred times worse than TO and Pac Man combined. I don’t think he even realizes just how much the local media in Dallas scrutinizes everything. I think it will be a huge awakening for him. Unless he goes to a trainwreck organization, he isn’t going to accepted as the general of a team he just showed up for. If that doesn’t weigh on his mind…than I don’t know how anyone could convince him to stay…

nice..thats sort of what I said on the Dallas site. Ray might come across as contrived and over-hyped to send a sincere message in the locker room. It will be like hiring Bob Hope to improve troop moral.

It’s won’t be spontaneous and the little Cowboys will be sitting there with pop-corn waiting for the Ray Ray Show to come on. I can see them slowly leaving the locker room adjusting their eyes after Ray’s Bottom Line routine saying, “Man, I was hoping he was going to say that part about being brothers and how we can take over planet earf..like I saw on the B-more clips…my pop-corn was stale .”

You should write for ESPN Page 2

They do not take certain things too seriously, just like you! You are forgetting Ray’s other famous quote……

Hey! Hey! Hey! This team cannot move the ball on us, you hear!!!!

Wonder how that went during the Giants game

Reporter: Where are you playing next year?

Bottom line, is, we are brothers and ain’t nobody gonna come between us, ever, its not about Ray, it’s about football, i don’t care about the business, business takes care of itself like magic, i want to be the greatest football player ever, bottom line. it’s to a man, look into each others eyes, makin football love, slow tender like, togetherness, i’m blessed, its not about ray, its about the love, to a man, bottom line.

Reporter: What’s your favorite color?

It ain’t about a certain color, its about 11 men caring for each other, bottom line, the passion we feel and fire we project, huddlin’ up, i don’t think about color, its not like that, its about having each others backs, i’m blessed, blue, red, green doesn’t matter, we need to be inspired, bottom line.

Ok, I have to be honest, quite possibly the funniest thing you ever wrote

I found myself talking out loud like Ray would and did his voice and even the hand gestures. That is exactly how Ray would say it to. God, that brought tears to my eyes.

one more-

Warren: (smiling) Uh, yeah… tell me about the time, and you know where i’m goin’ with this (insert hug and secret handshake), take me into the huddle, down in the mud, whats ray thinking, give me a little somethin’ somethin’, some knowledge between the lines, share that if you would.

bottom line and you know this because we go way back, (insert another hug and secret handshake) i mean way back, and what i tell you is the truth, and every young man who plays beside me and opens his mind to learn, simply learn the game of football, will tell you that, its not about ray, its about 11 guys supporting each other, yeah, im big, blessed, and beautiful, and have been since you’ve known me and i let you be my friend and talk to me, am i right (hug).

warren: (gushing) thanks ray

better put that disclaimer at the bottom

don’t want no one to take offense at you and sue the pants off you. That could result in a loss of the sofa and beer cooler!

dont need a beer cooler when its cold out..but you do have to gauge the proper distance from the house so the beer doesn’t freeze.
