Saints cut CB McCallister

According to NewOrleansSaints.com:

New Orleans Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis announced Tuesday that the club has signed free agent cornerback Marcus McCauley and waived cornerback Chris McAlister. The club also placed linebacker Jo-Lonn Dunbar on injured reserve.

McCauley is a third-year player who originally entered the NFL as a third-round draft pick of the Minnesota Vikings (72nd overall) in 2007. The 6-1, 203-pound Fresno State product has played in 27 career regular-season games – all but one of them with the Vikings – with 10 starts, and has tallied 66 tackles, 10 passes defensed and five tackles on special teams.

McAlister was signed by the Saints as a free agent November 18 and played in two games with the club, making four tackles with a forced fumble that he also recovered. The 11-year veteran defender spent his previous 10 seasons with the Baltimore Ravens.

Dunbar is a second-year player who has played in nine games this season with three starts, making 16 tackles on defense and adding 12 more stops on special teams. He suffered hamstring injury in the Saints’ victory at Washington Sunday that will end his 2009 season.

I think he still has something to give just needs the right setting.

He messed up an opurtunity with the most stable team in the league

I don’t think he can get into the right place. I can only see him as a Raider, that or he just needs to call it quits.

McAlister made a fumble recovery

on a tackle where he cut out the legs of the player because as usual he didn’t have the spine to face him up and hit him in the chest. C-Mac looked pedestrian, always on the fringe of the tackles other than that one play. He was burned by Randy Moss and now I’m wondering what his girlfriend Anita Marks will say now that she’s not able to gloat how good he is.

However, the guy they signed from the Vikes looks to have decent stats along with a good size, one that seems we could have used. Why do the good teams load up on veteran depth while we pay big bucks to little fast guys who can only catch up to the guy after he burns them?

C'mon Bruce

That’s a lil harsh; that was a fullback. Name me one DB that goes headfirst in trying to tackle someone twice their size. He made a great tackle and strip, and I personally though he held his own in that New England game against Welker.. Who isn’t burned by Moss on occasion?

I might be the only one here who thinks he’s a decent player.

I’ve always liked him as well. If he didn’t want an obscene amount of money I wouldn’t mind still having him on our team.

WAS a decent player

Nothing left in the tank,…or other teams would have been knocking at the door. That is the true indicator of ability- teams lining up for you.

C-mac was on a short leash I’m sure. He had a personal foul (surprised?) against the skins. I think that cemented it.

I'm kind of miffed that the Saints cut McAlister.

He shored up our defense when we had nobody. It’s not like we gave him any help on Moss. I’m really skeptical that our new guy is going to be as good as CMc hit factory.
