Five Ravens Named To Pro Bowl
Congrats are in order to five players on the Baltimore Ravens who have been named to represent the team and city at the Pro Bowl in Miami. The Pro Bowl will be held January 31, 2010, which is the week between the conference championship games and the Super Bowl, also in Miami. Hopefully, these guys just won't be able to make the game as they will be practicing for the big one the following week. Otherwise, big props to Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Haloti Ngata, LeRon McClain and Ray Rice on their selections. All but Rice will be playing as starters, but for a second year running back to make the squad is a "surreal" honor, as Rice was quoted as saying.

FIVE RAVENS NAMED TO PRO BOWL
Five Baltimore Ravens were voted to the Pro Bowl, the NFL announced Tuesday evening. LB Ray Lewis, S Ed Reed, FB Le’Ron McClain, DT Haloti Ngata and RB Ray Rice were selected to play in the NFL’s All-Star game, which will be held on Jan. 31, 2010, in Miami’s Dolphin Stadium.
LB Ray Lewis (11th Pro Bowl – Starter)
Tabbed as a starter for the AFC squad, Lewis was named to the 11th Pro Bowl of his 14-year career. He has recorded a team-high 152 tackles through 15 games this season, adding three sacks, six passes defensed, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery for the Ravens’ No. 3-ranked defense.
"This is always an honor," Lewis stated. "I don’t take it for granted. To be recognized by your peers, the coaches and the fans is a privilege."
S Ed Reed (6th Pro Bowl – Starter)
Reed, who was also selected as a starter for the AFC, was named to the sixth Pro Bowl of his eight-year career. Though he has missed the Ravens’ past four games with a groin injury, Reed has totaled 51 tackles (47 solo), three forced fumbles and three interceptions for 111 yards this season, including a 52-yard touchdown return.
FB Le’Ron McClain (2nd Pro Bowl – Starter)
McClain was named to the second Pro Bowl of his three-year career as the AFC’s starting fullback. This season, he has helped pave the way for the Ravens’ seventh-ranked rushing attack that is averaging 130.7 yards per game and has produced 19 touchdowns on the ground.
DT Haloti Ngata (1st Pro Bowl – Starter)
Selected to his first-ever Pro Bowl, Ngata has been a staple on the defensive line by producing 40 tackles, 1.5 sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery for Baltimore’s sixth-ranked run defense (96.1 yards per game). With Ngata’s help, the Ravens also rank first in average yards allowed per rush (3.5).
"I’ve been working so hard to be one of the best ever since I entered the NFL," Ngata said. "This is unbelievably gratifying and a great honor. As a player in college, you just want to get to the league. If you’re fortunate enough to make it to this level, everyone then dreams of going to the Pro Bowl.
"Without the other D-lineman on our team, I wouldn’t be able to do the things I do," Ngata added. "I’m thankful for guys like Kelly Gregg, who has taught me so much about technique and been a great role model. Trevor Pryce, Justin Bannan and Dwan Edwards have helped me grow, and they push me every day. Coach [Clarence] Brooks is somebody who makes me better and constantly demands the best out of me. None of this is possible without any of these guys, so that’s why this is a group award."
RB Ray Rice (1st Pro Bowl)
In just his second season, Rice earns his first Pro Bowl nod after tallying 1,952 total yards from scrimmage (second in the NFL) through 15 games. He currently leads the Ravens with 1,269 rushing yards and 74 receptions (for 683 yards). His 1,269 rushing yards stand sixth in the NFL, while he has also produced at least 100 total net yards from scrimmage in 12 of 15 games.
"This is such an honor," Rice stated. "Even though I’m going as an individual, I consider this a team award. I want to thank all my teammates and coaches who have made this possible. Growing up, I dreamed of playing in the NFL, but making the Pro Bowl is surreal. I’ve always played the game in hopes of earning other people’s respect, and knowing that the fans, coaches and players voted for me is humbling. I promise to represent the Ravens organization and City of Baltimore by continuing to do nothing but my best."
Alternate Note: One Raven who did not make the Pro Bowl but was selected as a first alternate was G Ben Grubbs. Grubbs would receive an invitation if a player in front of him cannot attend due to injury.

Deserved honor!!!
A well deserved honor for the Ravens players that were selected to the Pro Bowl. I too hope that they will be unable to attend as there is more pressing business. There is work to be done.
Just Curious
What ever teams make the Superbowl will there players be playing in the Probowl?
The ProBowl is before the Superbowl this year so how will that play out for the two teams getting ready for the SB.
Nope, players in the Super Bowl
have to sadly miss the Pro Bowl.
Also, guard Ben Grubbs made it as a first alternate.

they shouldn't even play the pro-bowl
they should just select the first and second team players like the “all-nba” team and leave it at that. who needs to go out there and play a game where you might get injured. i say just send em out there to hawaii and have them all get wasted on TV with strippers at a party. that’s a plan.

Disappointingly Enough...
Jarret Johnson deserved to be there over Ray Lewis this year. Ray is a monster, but he’s not on a Pro-Bowl level anymore. Jarret Johnson, on the other hand, has been doing everything and more.
On the first day, Chuck Norris created God. But the day before that, Matt Wieters created Chuck Norris and the calendar.
Not so sure...
Ray is still a monster, and I think you’d be hard pressed again to find another MLB with 152 tackles, three sacks, six passes defended and three forced fumbles and those are just the tangibles that he adds. Factor in the intangibles and you’ve got a pro-bowl caliber player.
I do however agree that Jarret is right there in the mix. He just needs to amp it up a notch and he’ll become a perennial pro-bowler himself.
I do think you could make that argument for Reed though, simply because he got injured right as he was heating up. Historically Reed gets hot in the second half of the season, and we all know he’s missed the last 4 games…
by that rationale brian urlacher should be in the pro bowl because he's done it before but got injured too early this year.

Come on guys
This is not usually based on stats but on popularity. Rice is a little bit of an exception but Ray and Ed and a lot others are there on rep not performance, even though most of them are very solid performers.

What about Ngata?
No love for him? I think it was about damn time he got in.
FEAR THE NEVERMORE DEFENSE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ngata was selected
As a starter as well!

Lets hope to see none of these guys there
Cuz hopefull we’ll find a way to turn it around
And i think it’s pretty stupid to put the Probowl before the Superbowl.. If We end up seeing a Colts, Vikings superbowl for example, there’ll be 14 players missing… A probowl without Peyton Manning?! Roger Goodell said no one cares about football after the superbowl but there’ll be even less people watching when the top players from the two best teams aren’t there.
Ngata- “I’ve been working so hard to be one of the best ever…” LOL. Stop working so hard before you late hit, face mask, hands to the face, offsides youself to death.
Me not play special teams. Me get excited and not know rules. Me not see the play. Me not know whistle blow. Me see two guys on sideline and me hit dem. Grunt.
hehe. me crush gorilla skull with raw jawpower. hehe me smile when smash enemies. me play defensive end but me rather play D tackle. me inflict human pain because me think funny. me greatest brain-smasher of all time.

Would also like to have seen Jarrett Johnson also in the mix. He had a terrific year. Go Ravens!
