Ravens To Provide Fans Rally Towels For Steelers Game

Nov. 23, 2009

For Immediate Release

RAVENS TO PROVIDE FANS RALLY TOWELS AT SUNDAY’S HOME GAME

Prior to this Sunday’s Ravens-Steelers game (Nov. 29, 8:20 p.m.), the Baltimore Ravens and Under Armour will provide over 71,000 fans with purple and white rally towels as they enter the gates of M&T Bank Stadium.

The Ravens are encouraging fans to wear all purple and waive their rally towel for the nationally-televised Sunday Night Football broadcast.

"Our fans are committed and exceptionally passionate," Ravens vice president of corporate sales and partnerships Mark Burdett stated. "It’s important that every Ravens fan who attends the game gets a towel and displays it proudly.

"We want there to be a sea of purple and white, so the national audience can witness Baltimore’s excitement and dedication to its team."

Sponsored by Baltimore-based Under Armour, the towels prominently display the Ravens’ logo. Additionally, the Under Armour logo and slogan "Protect This House" is printed on the towel, along with an emblem for the Wounded Warrior Project.

A non-for-profit organization that has partnered with Under Armour, the Wounded Warrior Project’s mission is to honor and empower wounded soldiers.  Its purpose is to raise awareness and to enlist the public’s aid for the needs of severely injured service members, to help severely injured men and women aid and assist each other, and to provide unique, direct programs and services to meet their needs.

During Sunday’s pre-game ceremonies, several U.S. military members who were recently wounded in battle will be honored on the field.

Im bringing my terrible towel

But it will be hanging out the back of my pants with brown stains on it like I do every year for the Steelers home game.

gotta agree wtih you Johnny

I think it’s totally lame that we’re trying to imitate the towel thing. I won’t touch one of those, unless its a steelers towel and i’m wearing it in the manner MaLoR suggested.

Teams have been giving out towels long before

there was a terrible towel. They just decided it was the best souvenier that Pittsburgh could ever think of. (sorry, can’t spell souvineir).

i don't think so

i don’t think fans were waving towels at football games in the 70’s when Myron Cope (legendary Steeler broadcaster) urged Steeler fans to bring a gold towel to a playoff game in 1975. people have been riding that idea since then but nobody and i mean nobody has come close to matching the Steeler Fan Base and our Terrible Towel.

come on man

Mainly because

no one really cares about just a towel.

dont tell that to steelers fans

sure, tell it to fans of any of the other 31 teams… but don’t tell steelers fans that.

When they come here,

I’ll make it a point to say so. But will I go to Pittsburgh and say it? Why would I even want to go there to pay big bucks for a ticket and sit in an ugly stadium in horrible weather in an ugly city and get hasseled in the first place, much less start with their inbred fans?

Not imitating

They just realized that after seeing the Bengals and Colts beating us we needed something to wipe our crying eyes!

Hopefully like crap

Nothing better than knowing all the idiotic Steeler fans out there are trying to figure out how they lost to the Chiefs.

I do find it funny that many Steeler fans (Including BTSC) gave us sooooo much crap for nearly losing to the Chiefs. Hmmmmmmm

You were home, we were away

Doesn’t excuse the loss, but it’s not exactly the same game.

Oh of course not

Still the Chiefs. You guys are losing games because of Special Teams.

We are not a good football team with that ST. That and we don’t protect the ball or take it away from the opponent.

Can you believe that we are both not leading the AFC North!?

The friggin’ Bengals? What is happening with the world. Next thing you know, dogs will lie down with cats and so who knows, we might go 6-0 and win the division and get a bye and win a home playoff game and then go to Indy to upset them then face the Saints and pick off Brees three times and win the SB!

Whew, that hurt my brain.

I'm trying not to think about the Bengals right now

I’m still holding out hope that we can run the table and they lose @MIN and @SD. We could be the #3 seed if that happens and the Chargers drop a game between now and the playoffs…

Wow, you really must have hope

and as blind as it is, you can still get in, but run the table and first place, much less a bye? Perhaps that gold towel has been over your face too long and not let enough oxygen into your skull?

We never lead the AFC North. The towel thing is a boring stolen idea. They don’t need to give the fans towels just tell their stupid jackass players to play disciplined football.

Why would I want to wave a towel for our late hit, cheap shot game killers or 2nd and 1 inch chokers. They can shove their gimmicks where Foxworthy plays 1/2 the time. Towels, how original. Let’s go to yellow and black unis too.

I’ve rooted my head off for this team and guys like Ngata cheat it away at key moments. It’s not getting beat, it’s being stupid and costing 70,000 fans a chance to go home winners…every week. All, because some fat ass wants to cheap shot a guys ribs. Thanks dude.

The towel thing is a boring stolen idea.

you can say that again. How lame is it that we’re just stealing their idea? I am honestly embarrassed by this.

By the way

Who is going to be there on Sunday? I got tickets and I am going to be drunk and rowdy.

It is not stealing their idea

It is a very effective way to dilute the couple thousand piss towels at the game. Every team does it when they play the stillers on national TV

good point

never thought of that…

i guess thats why the redskins looked soo overpowered by the steelers fans last year…

oh wait no there really were more steelers fans in that stadium

I know you guys don't like the idea of the Towel thing...

and yeah, it’s kinda a lame attempt at drawing attention away from the mass of Steeler fans that will be there… but…. the Wounded Warrior program is awesome and it will support a ton of our military kids that need our help. With my son in Afghanistan right now, I hope he never needs their assistance; but Under Armour and the Ravens organization really are doing a good thing. (Still hope my Steelers put a beatdown on ya…but your organization is showing some class :: wince :: with this)
