Dumbest Team in Football

It is a shame really. The Ravens play hard and with heart and tenacity, but they are easily the dumbest team in football, and it covers all aspects.

Joe Flacco throwing into triple coverage when what we needed was possession of the ball and a chance at a go-ahead field goal, not a six yard completion. Dumb. Ed Reed trying a ridiculous lateral on the late punt return like we were ahead by 20 and he was just out to have some fun. Dumb. Both Flacco and Reed should be made to stand at the blackboard (a la Bart Simpson) and write "I will value possession of the ball in crucial game situations." And if Reed wants to play rugby he should go to South Africa, Even in rugby, players know that sometimes it is better to go to ground than to pitch the ball back.

Haloti Ngata diving onto the Colts player who was already obviously tackled for a substantial loss. Dumb.

The coaches calling the timeout before the two-minute warning when if they had waited 8-10 seconds the ref would have called time to measure the spot, and then compounding the mistake with the dumb challenge and loss of both timeouts. The Ravens could have gotten the ball back with well over a minute. Of course Reed would likely have just lateralled away the ball. Dumb.

The coaches (Cam Cameron?) calling for about a dozen running plays over the center/left guard gap and getting stopped every time for no gain or a loss of a yard or two. After about five times shouldn't we realize that play just isn't working and go to more successful running schemes? Dumb.

And finally into the front office. I guess everyone noticed a fellow named Stover wearing a helmet with a blue horseshoe on it and making his game winning field goal by perfectly splitting the uprights. Dumb.

By the way, I know Ozzie likes to draft the best athlete available, but if we don't take a cornerback  with the first pick next year Ozzie should be exiled. Our DB's just stink, and more than anything else, it is costing us a chance to be a pretty good team. Someone should tell Fabian Washington that when a receiver passes him at a high rate of speed he might want to follow since something is likely to happen. Someone should also tell Foxworth that falling down whenever the receiver makes his cut is not standard practice for CB's. And as for Frank Walker, oh never mind on that one. He has no business being in the NFL.

It is a shame for the fans. You can hear and see their passion on the TV broadcasts from M&T Bank Stadium. We deserve better than this undisciplined, confused mess of a team.

Amen

I couldn’t have said it better myself. Just one thing to add…the same will happen next week Baltimore fans, it will be a close game and we will choke…again. This is how I see it. The game will be tied 14-14 Ravens have the ball with about 6 minutes left in 4th quarter. We drive down to about the 15-20 yard line and try to run against that great Steelers D. We get to about 3rd & 12 and kick the field goal, Cundiff will probably make it putting us up 17-14. Steelers get the ball back with about 2:33 left on the clock, Ben (who is going to play, dont be fooled), will drive down and throw a 11 yard touchdown pass to Hines Ward with about 9 seconds left on the clock…game over.

No TD's in 5 straight 1st halfs.

Ed Reed is the best. I have no problem with his attempt to win the game. Isn’t that what we all say on here. Win the game. He tried to do what our O can’t – score. We had 20 seconds to go 40 yards and kick a FG. We had 0 TO’s thanks to Harrible. Ed will always get a pass on his very few mistakes. I would be more concerned with him getting burned by the receiver on Indy’s first series.

Anyone notice how Ed waved off the coaches and took the kick return position. He basically told Webb or carr to sit down. He wanted to win and almost did it. His pick on the short hopped kick was great. He almost pulled it off. Go Ed.

No offensive TD's in SIX straight 1st halves

The only 1st half TD we’ve had during that span is Reed’s pick-six against the Bengals in the first meeting.

Ed Reed has proven to me that I now would take Troy Polamalu over him. Troy makes the good consistent plays while Ed makes his rep on the big plays and too many times misses the tackle because he’s more interested in the “me” play!

wow that’s how i know you’re crazy. All we needed to do with 25 seconds or so was get back into field goal range—which was one offensive task we had been capable of that night. While our chances were slim, they were higher than zero. Following his ill-conceived would-be forward-lateral, our chances were reduced from slim to zero. But you have no problem with that.

Reason number 4,596,334,567 why I’m glad the Baltimore Beatdown does not manage the Baltimore Ravens.

Ed takes chances because the offense has ripped victory from his hands for many years. That all culminates into his actions. We had 20 seconds to go 30 yards AND set up for a FG. We had 2 plays and a kick. We had 7 seconds on the clock before 1/2 and kciked the FG. That tells me we get 2 plays tops. Ed tried to win. This game was lost by Cam on the 1 and flacco on the 8. Just 2 horrendously stupid moves.

Now you're calling me crazy?

Is everyone here crazy? Nevermind, don’t answer that.

haha no disrespect to bruce or raven

i love the blog. but we have to remember that people with much higher football IQs than ours are running the show and they’re acutely aware of the problems with this football team. We will improve, it just might be next year… as hard as that is to say…

"...as hard as that is to say..."

is nothing compared to sitting in the stands and in front of our TV sets, powerless to do anything about it and just accept it all.

unfortunately, you don’t have much of a choice. accept it, pull your hair out, call in to every AM radio station, develop a drinking problem… I’ll go with accepting it since we are powerless to do anything, as you said.

Sorry.

I still think the Titans will have a better record when all is said and done. I said that when they were 0-6.

You mean the 4-6 Titans

who are just one game away from possibly tying us at 5-6?

How can he step up when he’s busy butchering replays and TO’s? And letting Cam go stupid in the Red Zone.

Wake up people- No TD’s in 6 straight 1st 1/2’s. Are you friggin kidding me. 3 Pro-Bowl running backs/FB. Flacco. Mason. You can’t squeeze across 1 TD to set any kind of pace. That is weak and this guy needs to go. Cam moves the ball but has no plan for past the 50. It looks exactly like Billick and Cavanaugh confusion when we need to be orderly and call precise plays.

How do you suppose we’ll lose Sunday. Tell me. I’m not spending my day watching another stupid ending. You guys go torcher yourselves. 10 years is enough for me.
