How can we beat Peyton Manning?
On Paper we can't. Plain and simple. But since we have to play them anyway, lets break it down. The first thing I would do as a Defensive Coordinator is TAKE REGGIE WAYNE OUT OF THE GAME. I have an idea of how to do that. Double team him the whole game. That being said, we do not need Foxworth covering him. If we are double teaming him the whole game, then lets do it with Fabian and Reed or Webb. Let Foxworth take their number 2 one on one. Dallas Clark another one of Mannings Favorites. I like the idea of Ray Lewis jamming him at the line of scrimmage. Beating him up in Laymans terms. All game long. We need our best on their best. Lewis can blast Clark. Beat the living daylights out of him. Althoug I doubt Ravens will use Ray this way, but I would like to see it. Ladarius Webb should be in there on every play. We are going to need a big game from him. Remember Indy is a pass first team. They strike first and we are in trouble. Now another question. Can we get to Manning with our pass rush. The answer: NO................. Indy has one of the best lines in the business. And our pass rush is not good. (do not count the Clevland game) We may get a sack or two, but I doubt we will pressure him that much. So If we can take the pass out of Manning and turn them into a running team, Maybe we have a chance. But that is our only chance. And may be a slim one at best.
The opinions posted here are those of the administrator of this blog and his loyal readers. They are in no way official comments from the team, and should not be misconstued as such, even though he thinks he could do just as well or even a better job!

nobody double teams anybody "the whole game"
it just isn’t done. you go with combos of coverages between cover-2 (which Peyton will have no problem against) to true bracked double coverage (which Peyton will find another receiver for, if Wayne doesn’t beat it anyway), to Single high coverage with Reed/Landry cheating to the Wayne side (which is when Peyton will pump fake the safety out of the play and go to garcon/clark/collie/[insert man with two functioning hands here])…
I think you’re dead wrong about Fabian v. Foxworth. Foxworth clearly has played with more urgency as of late and seems to have something of a football IQ. Fabian is the guy who got burned and then benched by Sydney Rice even when he was giving him a 10-yard cushion.
Bottom line is that we’ll need to minimize the damage on defense, because there will be damage. I think Peyton is good for at least two TDs against us, and that’s a rosy scenario.
There’s two reasons I can think of as to why we might win this game.
One is that they’ve nearly lost in a couple of games now and there could be a bit of a hangover from the euphoria of their sunday night comeback win. The seed has been planted in their heads that they aren’t unbeatable, and they’re at that point in the season when juggernauts start to relax a little bit.
Two is that their interior defensive line STILL does not defend the run particularly well. If we can establish the run early-on, we can force their patchwork secondary to start crashing into the box and Mathis/Freeney will (might) have to cheat back inside to clog gaps. If we can establish that against their defense, they become very vulnerable.
We will need to score at least 30 points to win this game.

To win this game
Baltimore must play all four quarters. It seems to me that our team (offense in particular) doesn’t start playing until the 2nd half, and mainly in the fourth. Baltimore must play 100% through out all 4 quarters. Another thing, we must get off the field on 3rd down and we must stay on the field on 3rd down. One more thing, we must blitz Manning up the middle. Tom Brady and Peyton Manning both have problems thorwing out of the pocket. If we can get a decent pass rush up the middle, make manning move alot, we can win this game.

One Baltimore should do is watch the game flim from the 06-07 playoffs. Our D shut down manning in that game. Watch as much of that game flim as possible because that gameplan was very effect.

Please double Reggie if you think it would work
Cause then Manning will cut you up all day with Dallas Clark. Clark is the guy Manning will throw to all day if he has to. Clark has good hands and good YAC. And lets not forget about the rookie Austine Collie who has played very, very well in place of Anthony Gonzolez

put Ray on Clark, as Ray cannot cover one-on-one but can read plays and make them.

thank you colts fan
you can’t truly double reggie wayne. Maybe on some plays they’ll bracket him, but for the most part they’ll just have to play one or two safeties high and pray to god we get pressure.
I have no illusions about this game. If we do win, and i’d put our chances at around 35% (which you may think is generous), it will be because we scored 35 points or more.

Poor poor Marvin Harrison is missing
the game, wishing he was on the field w/ C-Mac coveribng him (& biting on that double pump fake as usual). Harrison made his own highlight film with C-Mac’s blunders.

SAINTS FAN
You can only beat him if you keep him on the bench , you need a offence that controld the clock , scores touchdowns and not field goals. I was really starting to think that Brees was the best QB right now , but he is not , Brees right now is having trouble controlling our first 9-0 record and the pressure that it brings. Manning has been doing this for years now , I really think that he carries that team on his right arm , I think without him , the Colts would have a losing season every year. I also think he may be the best that has ever played QB in the NFL. I am not a Colts fan at all and I don’t pull for Manning either to win , but I have to be honest here , he is way ahead of Brees. I really like Brees and ofcourse he plays for my team here (Saints) and I think he is probably the 3rd best QB right now. Brees has better coaches and a better over all team here then Manning has there but….look how Brees is falling off right now with the 9-0 record and bulls eye he has on his chest , lol , Manning has been wearing that for years and still goes out and scares the best,,,(like Belichick)
If we the Saints get to the SB , Manning is about the last guy and team I would want us to have to play against. Note: I think nothing of his brother !! I think Eli is a bottom feeder at QB kind of right there with Cutler and Romo. To me , those are and have always been over hyped and over rated cause of playing for the media favorite NY and Dallas areas.
PLEASE NOT LET IT BE MANNING WAITING ON US IN THE SB IF WE DO GET THERE

Would be a great game though
and probably the best matchup right now, considering you will already be playing NE in the regular season shortly.

Wow
I just thought , what a game it would be with the 18-0 Saints and 18-0 Colts and Brees and Manning on the same field at the same time in the SB.That would shatter all NFL records to start with and could you believe how many points would be scored in that one.If that would happen (and we all think it won’t) it would never happen again and remember this
Manning is from New Orleans and would be playing against his families fovorite team and Brees is in New Orleans. It would be a (New Orleans) Super Bowl and who ever wins , goes home to New Orleans after it is over…wow …GO SAINTS GO WHO DAT

I like the Saints in that game
At least their defense can get the turnovers.

If the Saints and Colts met in the SB
and the Saints played like they did Sunday…they wouldn’t stand a chance. The Colts blew out the same Rams team the Saints played against and the Saints nearly got beat. So if I were a Saints fan, I’d be praying you don’t have to face Manning and co.

But if the same Colts team that played
the Jags and Texans and barely beat them while the same Saints team that rolled over the Eagles and Giants played, then what? It all depends on the game itself, not the prior ones. It’s still the best SB match up out there right now.

the Texans
and Jaguar’s are 2 tough teams. Especially Houston…that’s not really the same argument. The Rams….aren’t a good team. In fact they are terrible. Jacksonville started slow, but now looks like playoff material. Its gonna be a toss up between Houston and Jacksonville for the Wild Card if Jacksonville keeps playing like they have been.

What Must Be Done
According to the Ravens’ latest press release, "Baltimore has held opponents to 200 yards or less in 4 of 9 games this year. " Though the release doesn’t say it, I’d be willing to bet those four games are among the Ravens’ five wins.
I believe the Ravens will finish at 10-6 this year, but I think before that happens, they will be 5-5. In order to avoid this and beat the Colts, they must do the following: 1) Offense must hog the ball — meaning keep it as long as possible, score touchdowns (not field goals), and not turn it over! 2) Defense must make plays — meaning, get turnovers and sack Manning. 3) Special teams must lose their minds — meaning, get turnovers, run back mad returns, and consistently kick the ball inside the 10.
There is still one oft-overlooked thing that can also make or break the game: STOP WITH THE PENALTIES, ALREADY!

all good points. we need to run the ball and keep manning off the field.

I don’t care what the paper says. I don’t care who’s on the other side of the ball. We’re family. Ain’t nobody take that from us. Sept you Fabian..You a distant cousin and needs to sit this one out on the front porch. Seriously, leave. Okay listen up listen up. We a family. We got heart. We got each others back.
