Ravens Release Hauschka
According to the Baltimore Ravens, the team waived placekicker Steven Hauschka Tuesday afternoon. GM Ozzie Newsome said, "We will sign a new kicker by tomorrow's practice."
The Ravens have tried out both Mike Nugent and Billy Cundiff, but are said to like Nugent better, so I am expecting them to sign him by tomorrow. Good luck Steven and hopefully you'll have another chance in the NFL, but not with the Ravens.
NOTE: (Added at 7pm) Here's the entire Press Release from the Ravens PR Dept.:
The Ravens released kicker Steve Hauschka this afternoon, it was announced by general manager and executive vice president Ozzie Newsome.
Here’s a statement from Newsome:
"We entered the season knowing that we would have to go through some growing pains with Steve. That happens with most new kickers in the NFL. But, for where we are as a team today, we need more consistent production from our kicker. Every one of our players has to step up to a Ravens’ level of play, and that was not happening for Steve right now.
"While we do believe Steve will kick successfully in the league eventually, we need better right now. The string of important games coming up that are likely to be close, tough battles and his lack of production are reasons we needed to make this move now. We will sign a new kicker by tomorrow’s practice."
Hauschka met today with Newsome, head coach John Harbaugh and assistant head coach/special teams coordinator Jerry Rosburg before leaving the team’s facility in Owings Mills.

YES!
I will feel bad for any team that gives Shankska another chance. GOODBYE STEVE!
You have to hate losing more than you love winning.
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
Now I see why you said ‘scratch that’…Huh…that was quick…
Seeing him on the sidelines, knowing that he is going to be cut on tues, almost made me feel bad for him… then I remember how much pain he has caused the fans and once again wished he was dead (not literally).
Geez, not so harsh!
He looked like a kid whose parents were on the way to school to pick him up for getting in trouble!

Burn Her, She's a Witch..
Not that I’m not happy to see Hauschka gone, but it opens up the ol’ point about “since we got rid of the whipping boy, who do we blame when the Colts win with a huge margin”?
I hate to say it…I REALLY hate to say it, but with the hundreds of “Flacco has looked lost for the last three games” comments out there, I have a feeling where all the ugliness is going to turn if this game is a blowout….
The Colts no longer have anyone playing in the seconday… they have some Clev castoffs back there now… if we lose this game by a large margin it’s because our secondary is middle of the pack and Peyton is the Bees Knees.
please
The Colts pass rush will make any corner look good. And liek always, Indy is going to blow us out. I’ll say……. 38-10.
FEAR THE NEVERMORE DEFENSE!!!!!!!!!!!!
wow that's very apocalyptic...
i think it will be a close game and i think people are underestimating our ability to run the ball on their interior linemen. I think Peyton is good for two or three touchdowns against our secondary, but I also think that Flacco will be fine against them.
I’ll admit that he didn’t look great against Cincy. He could have thrown two more picks than he did but they were dropped. But Cincy’s secondary is much better than Indy’s is, and it was a divisional game.
My prediction, albeit optimistic, is
Ravens, 35-31.

Clev castoff is only playing STs, they are using safeties in the dime right now and would send the punt returner out at CB before him.
happy to talk more about it over …

I remember saying in July
That when I took a look at Hauschka, I saw a person that I did not trust kicking for us in critical situations. His demeanor just gave me a sense of insecurity within him and I saw that drive to win from Gano. I do not think we have this same problem had we kept Gano.
It is sad that a team that is known as one of the best in the league at evaluating talent could not get this right. Terrible move to force Stover out of here before he was all washed up. I think Stover might pull a Favre against the packers type game this Sunday. He will be 4 for 4 and kick the game winner after we let Peyton drive down the field 85 yards with 1:26 left. We lose 17-19.

2 Bees Knees references in one week. man oh man.
Stover beats us with 5 seconds on the clock.
Haushka ends up on the Bears and hits the game winner against us killing our WC chances.
Gano signed by Detroit and nails the winning 50 yardes to beat us.
So now what?
Who do we sign?
Im thinking Nugent. He has NFL experience + he was pretty good on the jets
Went to NFL.com
To check Nugent’s career stats (since that seems to be who we’re getting). Not too hopeful. In the last three years, he’s 6/11 outside 40 – and most of those were three years ago – 0/3 in the last two years and 11/15 from 30-39 – again most of those three years ago. Not much of an improvement imo.

Exactly
There is a reason that he is not in the NFL right now. We hold such great pride in our front office having the ability to evaluate talent and use players that fit our team the best. This move has been an embarrassment considering that we have had since June to fill the position.

I don't feel sorry for him
As a kciker in the NFL, he has made more money in two years then I will see in 20.(Hopefully not)
FEAR THE NEVERMORE DEFENSE!!!!!!!!!!!!
i dont feel sorry for him
because he got his shot and couldn’t compete. If you get a shot to do something and you don’t do it, then either God didn’t make you good enough to do it, or you didn’t work hard enough to do it. I think God just didn’t give Steve the nerves you need to kick in the NFL, and that’s that. It’s not his fault, but it is what it is. Now go type up a resume like the rest of us.

thank God for boxing and Italian trainers or more innocent pedestrians would have been pounded by the dude for their lunch money.
The irony’s gonna be funny with Stover coming back too Baltimore. I gotta believe he’s snickering a bit at out kicking situation.

honestly, while he’d be well within his rights to snicker at us, i don’t see matt looking at it that way. I picture him saying “oops, well at least i have a job now” and forgetting about it.

Knowing Matt
he will only handle it with the class that he always had.

It's Like a Christmas Wishlist
“Mommy, we just got rid of the bad analogue 2-channel TV, (Haushka) can we get the new Toshiba 44” HDTV with complimentary DirecTV? " Ho we already had one but we didn’t like it because it was getting a little scratched up and old (Stover). But we can get the 22" 2002 version of the Sony LCDTV that has basic cable (Nugent, or Cundiff)

BRING BACK GANO!!!!
Dude has been lights out for the Las Vegas Show Girls…or what ever the hell they are called. He was the special team player of the week for that league. I think he plays in their superbowl style event this week and then he should be free.

Yeah, but the problem is
We need a kicker against the Colts. Probably the smart move would have been to hold onto Haushcka for a week until Gano was free and then do the do. But no, we have to prove how on top of it the front office is and sign ourselves to another mediocre kicker at least through this season. Unless somebody gets smart and only signs him for the game – is that even possible?

Anyone signed after the start of the season
is only paid on a game by game basis. thus, we can let Cundiff goe after two games and only owe him that amount.

I just want to see one more 50 yarder by Stover to really get people pissed.
Stover is probably doing a kick boxing work out with 20lb ankle weights as we speak.
Story line-
After being chased from a small town for a crime he did not commit, Bruce Stover Lee returns after enduring intense training in the jungles of Malasia. His mission- Clear his name. In theaters near you.
