Suggs Likely Out for Extended Period of Time: Ray Upset

When Chris Carr was able to snag the Ravens' second interception of the game, Brady Quinn took a cheap shot at LB Terrell Suggs by trying to take him out with a hit below the knees. This caused both players to lay on the ground for a good amount of time, but the way Suggs was acting, it did not look too good.

Now, it is said to be that Suggs could miss up to a month with a sprained knee, something we do no need right now with the pass happy teams that we must pressure in the coming weeks. Ray Lewis had this to say about the cheap shot from Quinn.

"Heck yeah it was a cheap shot. When you’re running down and you’re looking at the quarterback going at somebody’s knees who doesn’t even have the ball. I want to see if he gets the same fine I got or even higher. Now this man is out four or five weeks because of some baloney like that."

Quinn stated that he did not mean to hurt Suggs and that he clearly made a mistake after he had realized what had happened.

"I was trying to go for the ball carrier, Suggs came across at the last second in my vision. I would never wish that upon anyone. I was upset about it on the field. We worked out in Arizona together. I couldn’t be any more sorry about that. That was never the intent. I’m sorry to Terrell and the rest of their team."

Thank you so much Quinn. But at least we have gotten our wish to see some more of Paul Kruger.

Still haven't heard about the extent of the injury

and how much if any, will Suggs miss. That would certainly hurt our next two games, huh?

There should be a rule about hitting statues below their knees. Hello Mr. Kruger. You knows he’s juiced and his attitude might light a fire under this d-line. His speed will be welcomed.

Kind of sad that we have to wait till TWO injuries on the D-Line to see Kruger get some playing time.

There was a reason he wasn't playing and

it showed last night. He looked like a hyperactive child with no place to turn, runing wild but with no destination in mind!

Yep. The coaches lame excuse was that he was learning…What? Line up and get the QB. That’s what we’ve been lacking. We lost 4 game while Kruger wasn’t “ready”….And Foxy, Washington, Walker, Edwards, and Gooden were?

Go gettem killer. That’s how I’d coach.

while it WAS the browns,

he DID look good last night. he looked agressive and instinctive, and he’ll be playing with a lot to prove.

I don’t think Suggs has had much to do with our five wins this season, to be honest. While I’d obviously prefer not to lose him for 10 weeks, I’m still sitting here eating my Gorton’s Fish Fillets thinking “Kruger should be fine.”

Hey MaLor? What’s the word on Fridge’s future? Any predictions for the Terps B-ball team. Did Gary have a top 200 recruiting class? I heard he almost snagged a game changer but the kid signed with Catonsville Community College instead. Something about more street cred..

by raven on Nov 17, 2009 1:34 PM EST reply actions

Fridge’s future could not come sooner. He is the worst coach in the ACC and the guy supposed to replace him, Franklin, is just as bad. I stopped going to the football games after we beat Clemson, I just knew that would be our last win.

BBall, I say Terps stay in top 25 for the whole season. They are 26 right now in the AP and many experts have them anywhere from 22 to 13 in their rankings. We brought in 2 great recruits who are already making an impact. And we are waiting on one recruit for next year and if we get him, UMD will have the #2 or #3 recruiting class in the country next year.

I’ll say 23-7 for the season. Grevis makes 1st team all ACC. Sorry for the Terps talk Bruce.

Back to football or Ravens

Notice how Suggs played 90% of the game against the LT. Price drew the RT. With the RT being the better blocker guess who still got the sack.

I really wanted to start criticizing Chester but he got better as the game went on. He also drew Manbeast most of the game.

We have no set lines on D or O. I tried to find consistancy but everyone outside of Gregg and Birk change positions. Hard to get a read on who’s getting beat. Almost an injustice to give guys position names.

Anyone remember the fake handoff to Jamal w/ handoff to Cribbs. I think JJ is still trying to find the ball carrier. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a player follow a fake (Jamal) that far into the play. Pretty funny. Happened with 7 left in the first 1/2.

With 1:30 left in the first quarter the Browns had 3rd and 2. Two receivers on left side. Foxy had the outside and Landry the inside players. Foxy playing it right about 5 yards off his guy. Landry 15 yards off his guy. Quinn screens to Landrys guy who walks for the first down. Landry’s does make the tackle after a gain of 5. No kidding- 15 yards off the receiver on 3rd and 2. That is total lack of concentration and scary with Manning coming to town.

by raven on Nov 17, 2009 4:26 PM EST reply actions

i agree

it’s easy to look good defensively when the browns throw 59 screen passes in one night…

still though you have to be happy with that win. it’s a shutout and a much-needed confidence-builder for some defenders who obviously have had some issues.

However, i did notice after one play when they were doing player face close-ups, reed was walking over to Fabian with a “What were you just doing?” look on his face. The camera cut to the wide angle and I saw Fabian shrugg as he walked past reed. Not good to see our secondary with this lack of rapport…

I think Fabian is blind because he always waves his hand in front of face after he makes up 20 yards and tackles the receiver.

Pryce is now a backup

behind Dwan Edwards on the depth chart. Only plays on passing downs and in the event, now with Suggs, injury. He has slowed down considerably although still is a decent pass rusher.

Brady Quinn,

you are one of those guys who had every opportunity placed in front of you your whole life. You have all the characteristics of a spoiled douche. I saw you at the draft wearing a $5,000 suite next to some blonde sorority skank with bruised knees. I remember you pouting when you weren’t selected earlier. You saw Terrell coming on Monday and you coward like the douche you are, and cheap-shotted one of the guys that made you look so foolish. You can say you appologize, but you know the truth.

by Ravens Boner on Nov 17, 2009 6:52 PM EST reply actions

Every one wears a suit in the green room. And Why does it matter that he had a girlfriend? Pretty much all QBs do.

Its funny how hypocritical you ravens fans are. Cheap shots are only bad when they happen to you, right?

by TheRealSlimShady on Nov 17, 2009 10:13 PM EST up reply actions

one guy said that. “Ravens fans” did not say that.

Moreover, if we get fined for hits like that, he should too. If the league wants to protect QBs from hits like that, then the league should protect people from getting hit by QBs like that.

by jackmca on Nov 17, 2009 10:27 PM EST up reply actions

Ray was ined $25G

on a hit that did not injure the player, much less caused him to miss games. Brady’s fine should be bigger, and should include being suspended as long as Suggs is out. That was absolutely intentional, whether or not he intended to injure him.

aka 'Rexx'

by Bruce Raffel on Nov 18, 2009 10:04 AM EST up reply actions

ask Ocho about that hit

he respects it. he didn’t think it was necessary but he respected it. The Quinn thing though? I mean you can tell by the way he put his tail b/w his legs that it wasn’t honorable and he knew it.

And I’m one of those people who didn’t like the Hines Ward crackbacks but also didn’t really object to them (although I think it’s a good rule they added). So I’m not lashing out at division rivals blindly on this one. Quinn’s hit was dishonorable and at the very least I can tell that he’s ashamed of it. He’s lucky he won’t have to play us again until 2009 (if he’s even on the team then?) because there will be a very angry no. 55 coming at his blind side.

“stole the browns”

more like reaching your hand in a grab bag and squeezing a turd. but we had to keep it because those were the rules and it was the last item in the sack. so we put the lonely turd in the garden for fertilizer and out came a SB champion and some pretty decent success. i think that’s how the story goes. the last chapter was pretty good – Mighty Ravens 16 Colon Cakes 0.

by nycsteelerfan on Nov 18, 2009 8:31 AM EST up reply actions

no you're totally right

i’m not wishing him ill will… but I’m also not going to lie to you…

If maybe that injury just kept him out one week long enough that he didn’t make the trip to baltimore, i’d be happy. I’m just keeping it real man. 43 is a sick human who changes games and I’m not sure I like our chances against him. I do like our chances a lot more without him.

I understand that it’s not the classiest thing to say but a man can’t help what he wants or feels, he can only be honest about it. 43 is as real as they come and he’s only about a year or two away from being a first-ballot HOFer. Much respect to the man. In that sense, it’s almost a compliment to him that I don’t want him playing.

by Bruce Raffel on Nov 18, 2009 3:30 PM EST up reply actions

exactly

we can’t be bothered with beating teams with their best players right now. We want to beat teams and we’re gonna need to win some games we aren’t supposed to in order to make the playoffs (and we’ll probably need SD to implode as well, which they don’t seem to be doing).

So I want to beat the Steelers. Troy makes that A LOT harder to do.

Thanls Joe Beaver but Cribbs was pushed gently and he dropped like socccer player. I thought the guy was tough until that dive. At least Suggs got himself off the field after a far more vicious hit.

I looked it up and the Ravens have never in their storied history applied a cheap shot. How’s it feel having the world goof on your team. How did the opening kick boycott go? From the looks of it, it lasted the whole game.
