Broncos fan kicked out for Standing

Hey guys. Good win today. You deserved it. A Broncos fan at MileHighReport went to the game and was kicked out for standing. Now im not here to attack u guys and in fact the ravens fans were saying that the broncos fans standing were not a problen, the security were the problem. My question is what is the deal with standing at the stadium? Here is his post......

What happened... my friends and I were standing (with our hands in our pockets) in Section 113 Row 1 (end zone behind FG posts) while the Broncos were on D and were told by the Ravens staff to sit down.  Jon Cline (VP of Ravens security) told us we're "outta here" if we stand up again.

He said we could only stand up on a "majority rules" basis and said it was grey.  He said we could only stand up on "things like 3rd downs or celebrating a touchdown".  Well we were eventually tossed midway through the 2nd quarter for standing with our hands in our pockets (well aware we had many eyes on us and trying to be model fans AND yell for the Broncs) while the Broncos were on 3rd down.

Video evidence.

Again i just want to know the whole standing deal and what is and isnt allowed.

Wow, that is ridiculous

Kicked out for standing and supporting his team. I was at the game today as well and had no problems with any of the Broncos fans. They showed courtesy and class the whole game and even after. Kicked out for standing and cheering on Denver? I am embarrassed to be a fan of this team for treating opposing fans like that (except for Browns and Steelers fans).

i agree that's absurd

and I’m frankly embarassed that they handled you guys like that.

I like to think that while Baltimore is a serious homefield advantage in the NFL, it’s also a place where you can go and watch opposing teams as long as you’re respectful and don’t start any fights. I wish that hadn’t gone down like that for you guys.

Or as long as you are not a Steelers fan. In any Steeler fan vs. Ravens fan argument in Baltimore the Ravens fan is right. I’ve seen that the last 6 years…

Good. I know exactly what your were doing. You were baiting the locals in your orange jerseys. Don’t play ignorant. Not everyone can or wants to stand the enitre game- especially when your a visiter. I can see the field just fine sitting and standing has no impact on players or the game. You stand for the Banner and that’s it. Now sit down and take your ass whipping like the My Little Ponies you were today.

You asked the question. Why would you create a post on a Raven site about a drunk Broncos fan who wanted to insite the crowd but got his ass kicked out instead. Too funny. Let me know where you sit at your next game and I’ll wear my Raven’s jersey and stand in front of you. How do you think that would go over in Denver? All cities have the same rules and any moron who causes a stir will get the boot. It keeps the peace unlike this lame post and jab at Ravens fans.

by raven on Nov 1, 2009 11:06 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

not buying it….if they loved their broncos soo much then why wouldn’t they sit down and enjoy the only time the broncos play at M&T. if it was about the broncos they sit. if it’s about them they stay standing. i’m sure the ushers where descretely notified by surrounding fans that they were a bother. when you stand the fans sitting up to 3 rows back can’t see. the usher wants to make sure everyone has a clear view so EVERYONE can enjoy the game. your fans didn’t care to follow house rules. good house rules.

Gotta agree w/ raven

Not saying kicking you guys out was the right thing to do, but there are people sitting behind you and you owe them the courtesy to sit down and let them see from the seats they paid for an sit at every game. You can stand and cheer at key points or after plays are ran, but to just stand ALL game long is a lack of manners, courtesy and anything like that.

You were asked to sit down and warned but you ignored the rules, like them r not. Want to stand all game? Sit in the last row! Sorry, but you got what you deserved and I guarantee it would happen at Mile High as well as every other stadium.

mmmeh

now i’m confused. i guess i’m just gonna not take sides since i wasn’t there and don’t know how it went down.

The most absurd stuff I’ve seen was at Oriole park, where an O’s fan was in the process of getting kicked out because a yankee fan complained about his “Yankees Suck” shirt, but then the entire section began screaming in anger (which I haven’t seen in over a decade) and the usher backed down.

It's ridiculous at Camden Yards

Orioles fans have basically been reduced to “fans of the visiting team” when the Yankees and Red Sox come to town, and the ushers act accordingly.

Oriole Park had idiots for ushers

Even as an O’s fan, I’ve seen Yankee fans get kicked out for just sitting there and cheering a lot and O’s fans around them complained!

not the point

the point is the ushers. Oriole Park is the most G-rated sporting experience available in the USA and it comes at the expense of FUN—which is the main reason people play and watch sports in the first place.

If there’s a real problem with an opposing fan, I’d like to see some home town fans take care of it. That was the Memorial Stadium way.

No. I sit near the visiters section (the open seating or tickets for visiting players etc..). I know exactly what that guy was doing. I see it all the time. They get a buzz, stand up in their outsider jerseys and wait for a reaction. They get the reaction, fall in love with the attention and continue to stand on their BIG STAGE. It has nothing to do with cheering their team. You stand and rise with everyone else.

I have season ticket holders in their 70’s in my section. Their great fans. They don’t want to stand more than they have to. There are kids who are totally blocked out when people stand. We have a few rows in front of us then the railing. Their is no reason for anyone to stand unless it’s a game changing play. You want to stand for a 1st and 10 on the 50 in the 2nd quarter, I hope you take a beer can of the back of the head. And, don’t ever be the drunken dick head who turns around to everyone else and prompts more noise. Dude, it doesn’t make a difference. Not a bit. Real fans know when to get loud. It’s a long season relax.

And yet....

Where I was sitting in your stadium I could not have sat at all. Rather I couldn’t sit at all. I was forced to stand because every single person in front of me stood the whole game, and not once did anyone get asked to sit down by security….so….just sayin

That's okay, Chris

because the key thing is that everyone else was standing. If the others weren’t you would be poloitely asked at first, then not so politely, then got what you’d deserve, especially in a visitor’s jersey.

Sorry, as moderator here, hate to back the team blindly, but the stadium’s actions were fair and you just got to follow the rules, or leave.

RIGHT! EVERYONE was standing not 2 or 3 Orange jerseys in a sea of sitting purple. You’ll cause commotion being the ONLY ones standing IN ORANGE. Commotion=The Boot. Every stadium has the same formula. It’s a good rule and actually diffuses a lot of potential fights.

by raven on Nov 2, 2009 12:06 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

good point

I tell my philly buddies that as opposed to the vet or the link, you can GO to ravens games in opposing jerseys as long as you’re respectful. If you pick a fight, you’ll get a fight. But if you’re cool, you’ll be fine.

At least we’re not like philly where dads with kids can’t be sure they won’t have to fight someone or watch beer get poured on their 2-year olds (true story).

I would agree with that to an extent.

I met TONS of classy, awesome ravens fans. However, and this must be true nearly everywhere, I did also run into a crowd of the not-so-Friendlies. lol I had about 6 guys come up in my face and told me I sucked for being a broncos fan, and were certainly in the range of being physical without full on attacking. Probably hopeing I would throw the first punch….instead I turned around and stood in the aisle next to them until one started crying that I was there and walked towards the security…….but seriously….that was non-violent protest at the way they were acting and I am in no way sorry for my actions. I did walk away after making an attempt to shake hands to no avail.

dudes like that just suck. If you decide that going to a football game with your buddies and trying to intimidate opposing fans by mere virtue of your numbers and loud voices is the way that you assert your masculinity, then I have no respect for you. And I’ve seen plenty of Ravens fans who seem to need that experience in order to feel tough; the only thing that keeps it from being embarrassing is Bruce’s point, that it’s everywhere, and plenty of other fanbases are more guilty of it than we are.

You're creating a strawman argument raven

If you read the article and even watch the video, it’s obvious they were not drunk. Secondly, they weren’t standing the entire time; they stood when the Broncos were trying to make a defensive play. Third, the fans behind them told the security guards it wasn’t a problem.
You certainly have a right to your own opinion. I even agree with you that the type of fan you mention is both real and obnoxious, but don’t assume the actions of this one fan and then blame them for things they didn’t do. The bigger issue here goes beyond the Ravens to NFL stadium policy as a whole. Is standing up against policy? If so, ban all standing. If not, then let people stand. This idea of only if it’s third down and long in the fourth quarter and other people are standing… etc. is nonsense. How many others must be standing before it is acceptable? Can we stand on every third down or only on ones in the red zone? Creating rules is a slippery slope. If blocking the view of other is the problem, than they should ban raising your arms too.
IMO football has become the #1 sport in America because it is exciting to watch. It encourages crowds to get noisy and openly cheer for their team. To stifle that would be a shame.

Standing

I am a lifelong Ravens fan (I’m 18 and have only known the Ravens for a home team) and I have gotten yelled at for standing before. I thought it was bull and so did my dad, but one thing that the security guard and ushers let us know (quietly but still) was that they don’t care about standing, it’s just that when people complain they have to do something about it, which means that someone complained and then tried to hide afterwards. I don’t like it but it’s not like it’s just away fans or something. I also just want people to realize that it’s not the security guards or anyone, it’s the lazy fans that don’t want to ever stand up…

by NgataChance!! on Nov 1, 2009 11:31 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Why stand? What the hell is that going to do accept make your seats cold? Stand after a great play. Stand for a TD. Stand for kick off. That’s all fine but I didn’t pay hundreds of bucks to friggin stand when the seat I bought is behind me. When you stand everyone behind you has to. Elderly, kids, people trying to eat nachos, pregnant ladies, handicap people, bad knee people, erectile disfuntion and bladder control problems….The people in the front row who start the whole standing crap are idiots. Why would they stand. Is God playing? It’s the 4-3 Ravens.

I also have had a lot of visiting fans screwing with the home crowd in sections near me. They sarcastically hold out there hands like “what did I do” when all they have to do was simply SIT. But, they stand and stand and wait and wait for reactions and to show off their ugly Steelers etc. jerseys.

Agreed.. this is ridiculous

To tell my story, my boyfriend flew his family here from Kansas City for the Chiefs game home opener. They all wore their red, except for my bf and I. We walked with them the entire time and everyone was nice.. until…

we left the game after Ravens won. There was this drunk guy that sprayed my bf’s mom in the face with silly string, not once, but twice. He was wasted. Then another ravens fan stole his brother’s hat. Lets just say his dad kicked the ravens fan’s rear after spraying his wife twice in the face with silly string. Then we finally left that craziness and were walking back to the car and another drunk ravens fan decided to throw cheese at them. Then when we told them to stop, the cop came over and yelled at the KC fans, even though it was the Ravens fan’s fault. I, wearing my purple jersey, was screaming in the cops’ face that he should be yelling at his beloved ravens fans and not the opposing teams fans because maybe, just maybe, they started this dumb fight. He told us to leave now or else. It was completely pathetic. I was SO ashamed of how they were treated. We beat them on the field. No need to be complete a holes and throw shit and spray silly string in a lady’s face. I couldn’t believe what happened.

That being said, I apologize for your treatment. That is completely ridiculous. I support the Ravens PLAYERS whole heartedly. Now agreeing with the way our fans (and apparently our security) treats opposing teams’ fans, thats another story.

I’m sorry this happened to you.

Man...

I’m a Bengals fan- not here to cause or stir up trouble… but this is ridiculous. These Denver fans have a right to be infuriated and I hope they back up their words and sue the Ravens. If my team treated opposing teams fans like this I would be ashamed. But I’ve never seen anyone kicked out of Paul Brown and am a season ticket holder. It’s a shame that this had to happen all because somebody was standing… OMG! Somebody standing at a football game! How terrible! But this is obviously the Ravens organization’s fault… not their fans. Ravens fans are for the most part (besides raven) classy. In the AFC North, they’re among the most courteous. It’s too bad that this could reflect a bad light on the Ravens and their fans.

You haven't even had a team for 15 years...

And we’ve done really well against the Ravens the last few years. I didn’t come here to start trouble. I came here to give the Ravens fans props on being classy and you’re trying to prove me wrong with a dick comment like that. It really doesn’t reflect well on you or your fanbase.

Try standing the ENTIRE game

and refusing to sit down when the people behind you politely ask you to. You’ll be watching the game on TV by the second quarter. Anywhere.

I’ll make sure to blog on the site of your next away opponent that Bronco fans purposefully stand to insite riots. I’ll actually call the security offices and tell them there’s going to be a Bronco Stand In/gang sign flashing.

“I’ve never seen anyone kicked out of Paul Brown Stadium”

Just the Bungles.

Cincy’s too busy trying to arrest people and make them watch the Bungles.

"Ravens fans are for the most part classy"

Thanks for proving me wrong.

Look forward to the Bungles exposing the overrated aging Ravens defense again. Hopefully in the same dramatic fashion as last.

Reason no one complains when you stand

the seats behind you are probably empty.

At least we're not Eagles fans

look, I have a lot of friends from Philly, but anyone who’s been there has experience the sort of mental issues so many residents of that town have. I was clumsy enough to say in passing “I’m from Baltimore” in a bar and I basically had to talk down some incredibly incensed fans who thought I was somehow infringing upon their turf. I felt like I was in East Berlin and mentioned at a bar that I worked for the CIA.

True Story: a man at an eagles game with his two-year-old son is in cognito, since he knows that its trouble if he admits that he’s a redskins fan. But as the sun goes down and the temperature drops, he notices that his little boy is shivering. Seeing as he’s TWO YEARS OLD and is especially vulnerable to pneumonia and such, he puts the only hat on him that he has—a redskins hat.

Now I could see him getting heckled. I could even see him getting a beer poured on him. But the fan immediately behind him pours a beer ON THE TODDLER.

The guy turns around and says “are you serious? My son is two years old and he needs a hat! He is two years old!”

Five more eagles fans pour been on the man and his son. Security stepped in, escorted him out (since they couldn’t kick out the whole section), refunded his ticket, and apologized. His son was fine. True story.

Yeah...

Eagles fans are the absolute worst. Steelers are close second.

browns fans are easily worse than steelers fans

My son and I went up there

during their first playoff run w/ McNabb for the Falcons (Vick) playoff game to sell green wristbands to raise $ for the Tsunami. We were selling them like crazy and two plainclothes cops blindsided us and took our stock and money and finally gave the cash back after alll the fans gathered around and kept yelling at them to give it back. Mayor’s office called to apologize but said no one at the police dept. knew anything about it.

wow

that’s pretty shameful.

i guess the fans are classy enough to give you a pass for raising money for a much-needed charitable cause.

as for the cops, not much you can say about that.

lmao..what would BB be with out raven?

I agree with not standing in stadiums unless its for a brief moment to root on your team in a crucial situation or after a big play. Still I don’t know the whole story and if they really treated you wrongly I don’t see why you shouldn’t take action.

Denver fans suing the Ravens and stadium in Baltimore?

They’ll get laughed out of town, especially with that video!
