Ravens Sign WR David Tyree

Direct from the Baltimore Ravens PR Department:

Oct. 13, 2009

For Immediate Release

RAVENS SIGN TYREE

The Baltimore Ravens signed WR David Tyree Tuesday afternoon, general manager/executive vice president Ozzie Newsome announced.
Tyree, originally a sixth-round draft pick by the Giants in 2003, enters 2009 having played in 73 games, posting 54 receptions for 650 yards and four touchdowns in the regular season.
The 6-0, 206-pounder also has four catches for 47 yards and one touchdown in the playoffs. Those postseason receptions include one of the most memorable catches in NFL history, when he pulled in a leaping 32-yard pass on third-and-five, trapping the ball against his helmet, to keep the Giants’ game-winning drive alive in Super Bowl XLII.
Tyree also has special team prowess, recording 85 tackles in his 6 seasons with the Giants.

To make room for Tyree on the active roster, Baltimore waived TE Tony Curtis.

Does this basically rule D-Williams out? Or was this more of a special teams move? I think Special Teams, but we have also yet to see a 4th WR on the field this year.

Limp and dangling.

D-Will is obviously inthe doghouse

and if he can’t make it here on the receiver-starved Ravens, he can’t make it anywhere!

D-williams hasn’t been healthy since high school. tyree is a reach. there’s a reason he’s available this late in the season. i though he was taller than 6’. that’s pretty much mason/clayton size. maybe we got him strictly for special teams. what about a LB signing? I see NE got Junior tied up.

and we have no problems at LB

honestly we don’t. Underperformance maybe but that’s not where we need to replace dudes. We need a corner who stands at least 5’11" and can tackle.

should've re-signed C-mac

Say what you want about him, the man can ball. Harbaugh really needs to give that guy another chance.

I agree

At this point, we can use any help we can get. C-Mac will at least put a body on someone, unlike Foxworth has. However, Samari was cleared to practice next week, so that is a plus.

C-Mac still injured

his knee has not healed from surgery that he had last year that takes at least a year to recover. Besides there’s a reason no one wants him.

I asked

And, apparently, I shall receive. I think it might be more Special Teams oriented than WR too, but I’m sure he’ll get a few shots there as well. At least we’ve finally got a receiver that can look Flacco straight in the chin…
