Adam Schefter, come on now seriously?

Adam is reporting that the Ravens are a tired team and that they are "worn out and worn down." Really Adam? I am sure every team and especially the wild card team's in the playoffs are worn out by this point in their season. After all, they all have to fight and claw their way too even earn a spot in the playoffs in the first place, especially the wild card teams. We have 19 players on IR and look at the way our back ups have been playing so far. I haven't heard of any player complaining that they were tired. He also states that we have played three road games this year because of Hurricane Ike. Funny that I actually heard on a show the other day that an obstacle like that could have actually better prepared the Ravens for a wild card bid in the playoffs, interesting. Then he goes too say that Joe Flacco "hasn't figured out he's not playing for the Fighting Blue Hens anymore." Okay sure I understand the sarcasm by Adam but seriously give the guy some more credit for playing the way he has this season as a rookie and allow him too be mentioned with the top quarterbacks of this year. I am tired of the media dismissing this guy's talent. Sure some have acknowledged him but for the most part he is an afterthought. In my opinion Adam is dellusional but what do you guys think?

I think your taking this a little to serious

Our team has played 17 stright weeks without a bye or nothing. They may not be complaining about being tired, but you gott believe that they are. I just think there going to suck it up and playout these games. If we win the next two, they will earn their bye.

I’d like to see a movie with Deon Sanders, Pac Man Jones and Adam Shefter..One scene has to have Prime Time and Pac Man taking Adam to his first strip bar and after party.

I agree that every team is worn out at this time of the season

As a matter of fact, I wish I could still say my team was worn out for our next game

I dont know what to say

This seems to be one of those “Love and Hate” type of stories again. You know, the ones that have been coming out all season that talk about how good the Ravens are but that certain people believe we have this one thing that is holding us down.

Purpleonblack86, this is just another hateful story by the NFL. A lot of us need to realize that THE NFL HATES US! Come on, what is a better storyline, the God like Tom Brady driving down the field in the last two minutes of the superbowl to win it with a touchdown or the Ravens making a crucial 4th and 1 stop to give the Ravens another championship? It is Tom Brady. I can sit here and say that the NFL is in shambles right now.

Their poster children are out (Romo-Cowboys, Manning-Colts, Brady-Pats) and a loud mouth, supposedly “aged” team, ran by a special teams coach, a former 1-15 head coach, and maybe the ugliest rookie QB to come out of a small 1-AA school, are making a run. This is not supposed to happen!

It is truly an unfair thing that the Ravens have going for them with the ways they are covered. For me, it always seems that when the Ravens come up in a conversation on ESPN or NFL Network, that the word “But” always comes into play. Like they will say “Tony Romo forced in alot of those passes and didnt lead his team here, but the Ravens are pretty good too.” Every time a game that we played is over and we are the victorious ones, the so called “experts” will look at it as “This team lost it before the Ravens won it.”

I honestly do not get what Adam would say that Joe has not figured out he isnt playing at Delaware anymore. HOW DOES HE NOT KNOW THAT! And a great example of the “But” move

They are worn down and worn out. But they also are dangerous enough

But, but, but. It is all I have heard this year when it comes to the Ravens. We do things that would be simply amazing if they were done by the Boys, Colts, Pats, or Steelers, but the fact that we are little 13 year old Baltimore, with rookies and loud and proud defensive players, we are not supposed to be good.

I really enjoyed listening to Adam’s reports, as I felt he is very knowledgeable and never really seemed to look around the good teams. But this pissed me off and we did not deserve something like this.

GOD FORBID THE RAVENS WIN THE SUPERBOWL! The NFL will go into meltdown, just like they did when we closed out Texas Stadium, another event that was not supposed to happen.

When he says that Flacco hasn’t figured out that he’s not playing in Delaware anymore, he means it as a complement. What he’s saying is that Joe isn’t breaking under the pressure of his first pro season, let alone the pressure of a playoff run. He’s playing with the same confidence and calmness he showed in college.

It's a writer...

The guy has to fill white paper with black ink for some deadline. No sense getting whipped into a lather over a sports columnist. Some fans will get all fired up (look at the Titans blog posting a column from a Sun writer) by a columnist. Whatever turns you on, I guess. I just ignore it (same for the trolls that come by – why waste any energy on an asshole?). I only ask that the players themselves don’t give the other team some bulletin board material. The Ravens haven’t always been the best in that department.

As for being tired, unless you are significantly injured, adrenaline and will power will carry you through a lot of nagging pains. If these guys really want it, I very much doubt they are sitting around talking about how tired and weary they feel.

I like his reporting

but while he is doing some tongue-in-cheek commentary, he should realize that a ot of teams play 13-17 games straight if they have an early Bye week. Ours was an issue but the difference in tired-ness between 17 straight and 12-16 straight is negligible. History has shown little to no advantage for the Bye week. We should know because look what the Colts did to us off our Bye week in the 2006 playoffs. Besides the last two SB Champs were the 6t seeds and had to play 3 road games to get to the playoffs.

I will say..

that the drive when pennington found a groove the Ravens were tired and probably dehydrated as well. I did not know that Edgar Jones played defense. If you watched, every two plays we were subing like crazy. BUT… Everyone say it together…
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED

saved the day.

It will definite help if Flacco and the receivers can connect a few more times this week. When Schefter was reported on NFL Network, Jim Mora came on and said whoever can connect on the big pass play will have the upper hand. Some of those incompletions against Miami were just a yard or 2 off the mark. His one pass to Heap was horribly bad but it looked like Heap tried to change his route.

With all he said in the report, what is the reason why they gave the Ravens the short week? Since San Diego played SAT, why didnt they give them another SAT game and give us a SUN game?

Who cares. Lets kick some Titan ass.

It has to do with CBS,

Apparently CBS got to pick which late game they wanted Sunday and they thought the Steelers were a bigger draw than the Ravens/Titans. So our game got pushed up to Saturday and the Steelers game is Sunday evening. Thanks CBS!

Am I reading the same article you guys are? This guy is complementing us.

Along with Titans defensive linemen Albert Haynesworth and Kyle Vanden Bosch, and running backs Chris Johnson and LenDale White, one of Baltimore’s biggest issues against Tennessee will be its condition.

First paragraph, full of legitimate threats from the Titans, and a lead-in to his point about the Ravens being tired. Nothing to see here, folks. Move along.

Due to rescheduling its bye week from what was supposed to be Nov. 9 to Sept. 14, Baltimore now has played a whopping 17 straight weeks without a bye. It has taken its toll on the Ravens, too. They are a tired team.

Second paragraph. The gist of this section is that the Ravens were screwed out of their mid-season bye week. The ramifications of this are obvious. The Ravens have now been playing without a break for longer than any other team (by virtue of the Texans not making the post-season). I don’t know how you can argue that this doesn’t put us at some kind of disadvantage, however big or small it may be. The bye week is so important, people will talk about whether contenders are getting theirs too early, too soon, or just right. The players need that break to recuperate and heal. The extended play of our Ravens makes them that much more prone to injury as well. I’m not sure you could find anybody who wouldn’t rather have our bye week some time after Week 2 (if you can even call that a bye week). So, again, valid point. The bye is important, and the Ravens are tired.

Now, after a trying season in which the Ravens have been up to the challenge, they will have to play on a short week. Baltimore beat Miami in an AFC Wild Card Game. They now will be forced to travel to Tennessee to play a day earlier, Saturday. It is not going to be easy.

Third paragraph. Taking it sentence by sentence, we get the following answers: true, true, true, and true. There is nothing false or disparaging here. The only point with which I take issue is his use of the word “forced” in sentence three. I imagine that the Ravens players would gladly go anywhere and play anybody at any time if that’s what they needed to do to get to the Super Bowl. I’ll take the safe road and call this paragraph a wash.

Granted, Baltimore has two future Hall-of-Fame defensive players, an inspiring coach, and a rookie quarterback that hasn’t figured out he’s not playing for the Fighting Blue Hens anymore.
They are worn down and worn out. But they also are dangerous enough, if need be, to suck it up for three more games.

Paragraphs four and five, combined for my convenience. The first sentence is used solely to praise the Ravens. If you take issue with the Flacco comment, please see my post further up for enlightenment. If you don’t believe the Ravens to be “worn down and worn out,” you’re crazy. We’re up to like 16 straight weeks of football. The last time the Ravens didn’t play on Sunday (or Thursday or Saturday), Hillary Clinton still thought she was going to be our first Presidentette. That’s just a long ass time to go without a break when you’re one of the most physical and dominating teams in one of the most demanding sports in the world. And then he finishes with more praise.

So, please show me where he’s doubting us. All I see is confidence in the Ravens to respond to adversity with more wins. I’m starting to think that this impression Ravens fans have of the media giving no love to our boys is based more on a lack of reading comprehension than any actual truth.

The only key is that

Tennessee had their Bye week this past week, which has not proven to be an advantage in the playoffs thru history. The Titan regular season Bye week was week 6, so they played10 straight weeks up until this past one, if of course you want to count that sleepwalk loss in Indy two weeks ago! therefore, the difference over the course of the season is negligible, and will NOT be a factor OR excuse.

Tired?

Adam is an ESPN outcast who eats in the cafeteria by himself (like i used to-hunched over my tots).

Tired? In this day and age? Yeah right. these guys barely play 1/2 hour of game. There are more time-outs than ever. If you escape injury you have the easiest job in the world. At least baseball players have to stand on the field for 4 hours 4 nights a week. Football players sit for 2 hours (with assistants putting water in their mouths for them) and actually play for 1/2 hour. And in that 1/2 hour, they are involved in maybe a fraction of the actual plays. Ray averages..what 8-10 tackles a game. Thats about 80 seconds of action. The rest of the time he’s simply running around ; ) People do that every night after work…Tired? Please.

by raven on Jan 7, 2009 4:49 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Wow. I’m seriously hoping that this was all tongue-in-cheek. Are you even putting baseball players in the same figurative ballpark as football players? I think you said it best: they stand around for four hours a game. I can’t think of another sport off the top of my head (unless you consider NASCAR a sport) that requires less athletic ability and conditioning from any given player. The most famous baseball player of all time — Babe Ruth — was a corpulent, cigar-smoking billboard for sloth. He just happened to have excellent hand-eye coordination. If that’s all it takes to be the best, then I demand my endorsement deals for getting to level 11 in Tetris.

Haloti Ngata played rugby in high school (you must see the video if you haven’t already), and then moved on to a big boy sport.

Aren’t you required to speak with a British accent whenever you’re in the scrum?

Good argument but...

In the days of Babe Ruth players use too show up too games drunk, basically taught the game to themselves, and didn’t have the same regimen of exercise the players do now. There wasn’t any work out videos of how to become the best baseball ever or all year round camps for learning the best techniques. Of course football is a more demanding sport of the body in certain ways but from having experience with playing both sports you can not tell me that baseball requires “less athletic ability and conditioning” than football. Baseball really is a technical sport too play in its own respect as well as the conditioning that’s required too play it.

by purpleonblack86 on Jan 7, 2009 6:23 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I don’t see it at all. On offense, or at bat, or whatever, you sit around until it’s your turn to hit. This is where the hand-eye coordination that I’ve already acknowledged comes into play. Still, about half the time, you go right back to the bench after swinging a stick a couple times. If you do hit it, the most you could possibly be doing at one time is running around the bases once. I’ve done it, and it’s not hard. The kind of speed you need for that kind of running isn’t something that can be significantly improved through exercise and physical training. Also, I’ve never in my life seen somebody need oxygen following a home run.

On defense, or in the field, or whatever they call it, it’s a lot of standing around. The only people that do anything every play are the pitcher and catcher. The best you can say for what they do is that they’re at risk for degenerative joint disorder in their shoulder and knees, respectively. The rest of the guys wait until somebody actually hits the ball. The outfielders might have to run around a little bit. Somebody’s probably going to have to actually throw the ball.

A lot of this aspect of the game comes down to a knowledge base. If there’s guys on this and this base, and the dude hits the ball here, where do I need to go and what do I need to do? But there’s a knowledge base required for chess, too, and I don’t see anybody arguing that chess is a sport. Football players study film every week. Besides a pitcher needing to know a big hitter’s tendencies, how much studying do baseball players do? As far as I can tell, you learn the vast majority of what you need to know by the time you’re in high school.

Baseball is pretty much the bare minimum of what I consider a sport, and that’s only by the thinnest of margins. I think people who try to defend baseball are funny. I think people who play the game are even funnier. I think people who dedicate their lives to memorizing all of baseball’s ridiculous stats for every player over the past 6 decades are hilarious. It’s boring to play, and even more boring to watch. I’m talking bored to tears. Baseball hasn’t been America’s pass-time since at least the strike in the 90’s. There is just no comparison between the two sports at all.

Water covers 2/3 of the Earth's surface. Ed Reed covers the rest.

The hardest thing to do in sports

is hit a baseball. Everyhting else is tough but nothing compares with the required skill of that specific thing.

the old time baseball players were farm boys and most were in naturally good shape..they didn’t sit around playing x-box and living off their mammas and then pounding steroids when they needed to get better. they also used to walk 12 miles to school in the snow..none of that sissy school bus stuff. they also ate gunpowder and bricks for lunch.
