What is it with people creating accounts just for the Ravens? Is this all the work of one person? Fried Raven, is that you?

by Ampallang on Jan 4, 2009 9:00 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

chicken shit Titan fans. the pictures are boring. why don’t you post a picture of the ref throwing a BS flag on Suggs in the final 2 mins. we kicked your ass every way and almost overcame a very very very rookie qb. you squeeked by with a veteran collins. we are 75% better and your worse. again, like miami, i’m looking ahead to Pitt. ravens 37- titans 13.

by raven on Jan 5, 2009 12:50 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

whoa

We gave you your only touchdown, and Keith Bulluck said so in his postgame interview. If we had stayed disciplined then we would have won by ten points. Plus, KVB and Big Al were not in the game for the last quarter and a half.

by thawardasa on Jan 5, 2009 1:25 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I heard that KVB is going to be questionable up to game time. Is that the excuse you’re going to use if we beat you this time? Just a heads up: playing the injury card is pretty lame. You either have the personnel it takes to win in the playoffs or you don’t.

good points to be taken into consideration…hmmm, ravens 34 titans 13.

by raven on Jan 5, 2009 1:53 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

I'd just like to say that...

Flacco will be using the WHOLE field this time around… not 1/3 to 2/3 of it. We are a totally different team this time around.

A couple of things from week 5

Rushing yards…
TEN-47
BAL-132

ToP
TEN-25:32
BAL-34:09

The Titans’ offense started 3 drives in Ravens territory today (on the 37, 17 and 43). On those drives, Tennessee only gained 1 total yard and was held to just 3 points.
Baltimore did not allow a sack.

And for those predictions that the Ravens will win by 20+ pts….

Of the 18 meetings in the Ravens/Titans all-time series (16 regular season and 2 playoffs), 11 of the games have been decided by 4 points or fewer.

So don’t count on that.

I fully expect this to be a great hard hitting matchup on both sides of the ball, likely with the last team with the ball winning. Should be a good one. Good luck to the Titans, and let’s hope Ed Hochuli’s or Ron Winter’s crew isn’t officiating this one as we all know what happened earlier in the season with Hochuli in Denver and Ron Winter’s crew had the dubious distinction of being the crew that has thrown the most flags this season…. in Hochuli’s defense his crew apparently got it together the rest of the season and is the no. 1 ranked officiating crew this season… whatever that means.

Steelers fans might have something to say about Hochuli on the san diego game. Hochuli and winter need to sit the hell down for the playoffs.

by steelguy99 on Jan 5, 2009 9:33 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Hochuli did have those two massive screw-ups early on in the season, but he’s been very solid since then and called a great game yesterday. I don’t know the guy’s name that officiated the Colts game, but it was the very definition of one-sided calling. At one point, Freeney nearly had his head twisted off from a facemask right next to Philip Rivers, but I think the referee was too busy admiring Rivers to notice.

by Ampallang on Jan 5, 2009 9:44 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Eh, the SD game vs PIT was game 11. The penalties were 13-1 (technically 13-2, but the second one was beneficial to the SD and canceled a touchdown). Sorry, that refs in that game were fucked up, do you disagree? We still won though, so it’s hard to get too angry.

I thought the SD vs colts game was pretty fairly reffed. The three calls on the final drive were all completely legit calls – if I were a colt fan I might be griping about the applying the letter of the law on the OT drive, but I’m not, so I can just revel in their pain.

by steelguy99 on Jan 5, 2009 10:26 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

On Peter King’s MMQB, he goes over the referee ranking a bit. Apparently, if Hochuli shows up in a conference championship game or the Super Bowl, then he was one of the most highly ranked referees.

by Ampallang on Jan 5, 2009 10:34 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I read that too.

I actually like Hochuli. He’s a good ref. He took too much blame for that bad call. Every ref makes bad calls. It’s the luck of the draw.

by BAL_Hawk on Jan 5, 2009 10:38 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

It’s funny, because there was quite a lot of bitching on this site about Hochuli just a few weeks ago.

Check out this awesome TD catch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQRLGQLrbmM

by steelguy99 on Jan 5, 2009 10:42 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I know technically it wasn’t Hochuli, but I’m afraid that after his debacle earlier this year he has become a verb. Best of luck to no one getting Hochuli’d for the rest of the year.

Thanks for posting that...

Now I remember how pissed I was. I hope you guys to beat the Chargers again… We’ll see you in the AFC Championship.

UMMMM....

The Ref for that game was named Walt Coleman.

And Ignorant segue to trash-talk of the week award goes to….

Unless there wasn’t a segue at all. I don’t believe we’ve seen Walt Coleman yet in the playoffs. Or Bill Carollo who invented a penalty in the Titans game. Let’s hope they let those two take the winter off.

by math_geek on Jan 5, 2009 2:34 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Thanks for the ignorant comment, 100% correct. I do wish I was always correct like you were and could remember every ref and where the ball was stripped from my quarterback. Oh wait…

In the first two weeks of playoffs there should be 8 crews. The 4 that officiated this week will not officiate next week. Since we didn’t see carollo this past week, he’s not out of the picture for next week.

haha, that made me laugh out loud

of course, I took my lumps when I was wrong the first time.

as for whether or not we see Carollo or Coleman, absolutely they are not out of the picture, hence the sentence beginning with “Let’s hope…”

Whoops, sorry, it was Winters, not hochuli that called that game.

Nevermind, I forget who the hell called that game. I don’t like him though.

"Baltimore did not allow a sack."

Are you refering to the game against Miami? Because, I’m pretty sure that Flacco was sacked by Tennesse in week 5… Just look at the picture.

by BAL_Hawk on Jan 5, 2009 10:36 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

That picture WOULD seem to imply a sack...

but according to the Ravens website the Titans were the second time this season the Ravens didn’t allow a sack.

Maybe the play in that picture was negated by a penalty? I don’t know.

That, crazily enough was a play that happened after a false start.

The whistles were blowing at Haynesworth and it was an obvious unnecessary roughness call that was missed by the incompetent Walt Coleman crew.

That’s right, our oh so intelligent visiting fanposter actually took a snap shot of a play that never happened. And the only reason Haynesworth got to him was because the play was blown dead and he ignored the whistle.

Special.

Excellent retort! Please tell me there’s some way I can get a Ravens jersey with math_geek as the player’s name! What’s your number, math_geek? Square root of negative one? Pi? Do you take it old school with Roman numerals?

Just to head off any second guessing, I’m being totally serious. math_geek has been my favorite poster on the Beatdown for months.

by raven on Jan 6, 2009 12:35 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Cuse us guys to force to many turnovers

Did you watch the dolphins game.? Of course we are going to force turnovers. I see 3 Kerry Collins interceptions, 2 by Reed 1 by Ray Lewis.

Ill take a fumble by either Smash or Dash,

and for good measure let me get a fumble by Collins also, returned for a TD

Look out for the Ravens on January 18th.

yeah but err but yeah but…I live in San Diego during the winter months.

by raven on Jan 5, 2009 2:03 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Hey, I'm going to do this right here, because the officiating thread got too long

Ron Winter’s “crew” and Ed Hochuli’s “crew” have all officiated their last playoff game this season. Hochuli did the Ravens-Dolphins and Winter did SD-Indy. I thought Hoch did a good job, but a lot of people are saying that his crew missed a bunch of pass interference penalties on the Dolphins. I thought the Todd Heap end zone thing was ticky tack and a good non-call. Although the flag on Haruki Nakamura was pretty ticky tack as well. Consistency is the most important element in officiating, so maybe there’s an argument there.

by math_geek on Jan 5, 2009 2:39 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

However, either could show up individually in an all-star crew at the Superbowl or Conference Championships.

I’d be fine to see Hochuli make it, I think he’s a good ref. Winter is fair, but the number of penalties he calls get way to ridiculous. I’d rather enjoy the freaking game.

by math_geek on Jan 5, 2009 2:42 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I have to agree with everything you said. Hochuli, barring two high profile embarrassments, has been very solid. The non-call against Todd Heap at the end zone was a ticky-tack call, and I argued it as such to my Colts-fan girlfriend (what a weird conversation!). I most definitely wouldn’t be adverse to having Hochuli call another Ravens post-season game.

Nevermind above post about officiating, I guess I should read through all of them first.

by steelguy99 on Jan 5, 2009 4:54 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I want the crew from Detroit 2 years ago when the Ravens lost and had 20 penalties and 4 personal fouls! remember that disaster.

by raven on Jan 5, 2009 2:49 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

It was all started by the horrible ref's call

that the QB fumbled and Kevin Jones picked the ball up and ran it down the field when it was an obvious forward pass (incomplete).

First off..

This is going to be a CLOSE game and it could go either way. Both teams are similar in style offensively, but the Titans definitely have the edge. Both defenses are strong, but the Ravens definitely have the edge there.

Projecting a blowout by EITHER team is just stupid because we all know that will never happen. The last time these teams met the game was decided in a 10-13 titans victory and a very very arguable call was an important factor late in the game, BUT we cannot use that as an excuse as to why we lost. These teams are very close in skill and I feel this game will result in the same-ish score as last time and the victory could go to either team.

by ihatethesteelers on Jan 5, 2009 3:59 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Exactly.

Which is why I was really hoping not to play the Ravens, this is going to be a nail-biter.

by hartley on Jan 6, 2009 8:24 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Flaccos coming out bombing to Clayton…they are getting real close to 2-3 40 plus catches per game. a few catches like that in a tight game could seal the deal….i hope!

by raven on Jan 6, 2009 2:31 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

VERY true

That’s going to be tough against a good Titans secondary, but I believe Joe can make it happen with that catapult of a right arm.

by ihatethesteelers on Jan 6, 2009 3:20 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

i think we are finally over the gun shyness we showed the against the Titans and Steelers the first time(s) around. We need to play our game and not cater to the opponent. I think if we believe we can stretch the field we will. I hope we are agressive and create some point separartion early instead of going into a dancing contest. I don’t want to leave anything to chance in the last 3 minutes of the game. Air it out. Pass on first and goal. Work backwards and win.

by raven on Jan 6, 2009 3:45 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

The Super Bowl game against the Giants was supposed to be a punch for punch show too…

my outrageous prediction was just a knee jerk to the chest beating Titan post.
