Suggs believes all three LB can stay

I've just read on the Baltimore Sun http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/football/bal-ravens25,0,5471747.story?track=rss that Terrell Suggs believes that all three Baltimore Ravens F.A. LB (Bart Scott, Ray Lewis, Terrell Suggs) can stay with the team. T-sizzle stated that all three could stay with one another if they give Baltimore a "Home Discount". "We really don't want to play without one another because we've been playing together for so long," Suggs told Sirius NFL radio. If Bart Scott and, more importantly Ray Lewis, buy into this "Home Discount" thing, We could keep the whole unit together for at least another dominant year. We could also gain a little cap space by cutting C-mac and go after a CB or WR in free agency(or re-sign McAlister to a cheaper deal). What do you guys think?

The opinions posted here are those of the administrator of this blog and his loyal readers. They are in no way official comments from the team, and should not be misconstued as such, even though he thinks he could do just as well or even a better job!

That would be huge for us to keep all 3 of them.

Im really proud that Suggs plays football for the love of the game and the love of being on this team rather than playing for the money. These guys have so much god damn money and most of them always want more, but I dont think that is the case with our guys. Our team smells that Lombardi trophy, hell, this season they nearly had a taste of it. Suggs, Bart, Ray, all of them want that ring so much and know that sticking with this group will give them a very good chance of being the champs.

I think it is safe to say that IF Billick were still the coach of this team, these guys would want to leave. But, now that Coach Harbaugh has brought in this sense of confidence and dedication that was not always evident with Billick, the men have bought into it. They know that they are capable of being the best team in the league if everyone can play to their potential (and stay healthy).

I still do not think though that we can afford all 3 of these guys if we want to make a run at some above average FA’s. Suggs and Ray are a must because they each bring something to the team that just simply cannot be replaced that easily. Scott plays a very prototypical type of football that many players can come in and succeed at.

But still, it would be amazing if we can keep these 3 and continue our defensive dominance.

I don’t know if I buy into the “love of the game and the team” hype. Does anybody remember last offseason when we franchised Suggs and he whined all Spring/Summer? He skipped practices. There was talk about him leaving for Arizona (which may be been over-hyped in the media). Wasn’t it over something like the difference between $8.2 million and $8.9 million? I think he’s making such a big deal about keeping all three of those guys because he thinks we’re his ticket to a ring.

And there’s nothing wrong with that; everybody wants a ring. But lets not make him out to be some kind of saint.

Water covers 2/3 of the Earth's surface. Ed Reed covers the rest.

Yeah...

…but we were coming off a 5-11 season under Billick. Billick wasn’t all bad, but he doesn’t bring the same passion that Harbaugh brings. I think that our linebacks will want to stay in Baltimore as well.

Agreed

We were one game away from making it to the superbowl with a rookie head coach and QB. I believed that this team was one year away, 2009 will be our year and hopefully baltimore can keep all 3. Your right about how keeping all 3 would probly mean that we wont get anything in F.A. T.J. will be asking for at least 7 to 10 million and unless we cut Some guys, we wont get him.

TJ isn’t worth it. We need to draft a WR, There are many good ones coming out this year. I heard Mayock projecting six receivers in the first-round. As good as Ozzie is at drafting, we would be stupid to waste money on TJ… or Boldin for that matter.

Some Mock Drafts

have us grabbing Percy Harvin (Florida) who is a multi-threat as WR as well as kick returner. One actually has Missouri’s Jeremy Macklin falling to us, although most have him going in the top 10-15 picks. I’ll probably blog about our first round pick this week, so look for it and comment then.

I plan on doing a whole first round mock draft within the next 2 weeks Rexx

I have been putting one together and am almost done. Last year I got 15 of the 32 first round picks correct, including our boy Flacco. I love studying up for the draft because of how good we are at breeding these kids to become elite NFL players.

I dont want TJ anyway

The man is 34 years old, we need to start bringing in people who will impact this team for years to come, not just for one season or two. There are many other younger guys out there who can give us a chance to win rather than tj

I knew that was incorrect

so I checked it out and TJ just turned 31. He’s still in the prime of his career and take a look at Mason and you can see him still going strong, much less Ray Ray. That said, I’d prefer a rookie wideout (Macklin, Harvin) who can grow w/ Flacco. With someone like that, Mason, Clayton and even Heap can flourish under a learning Flacco in the next few years and the talk about our putrid offense will be a mere old memory!

I'll believe it when I see it

OIt all depends on what Suggs’ Ray’s and Bart’s definition of a “home Team Discount” ends up being. Something tells me there is not going to be an agreement that will be accpetable to all three. I’d love it but will just have to wait and see. All three could get very huge bucks on the open market.

TJ’s 34?…man forget that. didn’t realize.

I heard that is we don’t commit to a TE in the draft/trade all three LB’s leave….

by raven on Jan 26, 2009 10:57 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

Where did you hear this?

That makes no sense at all. Our linebackers are demanding we get a Tight End? And if we dont, then Ray, Suggs, and Bart are all going to leave? How are they taking over the offense and telling us to draft at a position that is no where near as skinny as others are. I think with Sypnewski coming back, we have a solid 3 guys to help run a 2 tight end offense at times with Heap, Wilcox, and Quinn.

That doesn't make too much sense?

However, I do agree that a TE is a need. Wilcox is too old and ineffective. Heap is still okay and having a healthy Sypniewski will help Todd a lot, but not for the first two rounds at least. Wideout and corner are our biggest needs, not necessarily in that order.

I like me some Jermaine Gresham at TE

That man can ball. I doubt he declares this year (not sure if he decided yet) but I would love him as our first rounder if he fell to 26. He would be a great weapon for Joe for years, and he and Heap would be ridiculous in two TE sets.

But in regards to the statement about the Ravens LB’s leaving w/o us picking up a TE….That is total BS. Just b/c Steve from Bel Air (hypothetical radio caller)says something on WNST, does not make it true. I would have to see a legit source to even consider that statement.

Vilma for bart

Did you guys know that John Vilma is a F.A. and he cant be resigned by N.O. until F.A. opens. Do you guys think we can let him go and sign Vilma?

FEAR THE NEVERMORE DEFENSE!!!!!!!!!!!!

by Benji5203 on Jan 27, 2009 8:43 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Vilma needs to be in a 4-3 D

From what I recall, that was the reason for his decline and eventual trade from the Jets. They transitioned to the 3-4 and Vilma’s play suffered. New Orleans trades for him, runs a 4-3 Set, and Vilma flourishes.

I don’t think he fits in the 3-4 we run so I would not pursue him over a proven commodity like Bart (and of course Ray and Suggs)

Ture but

The Jets didnt have the “Monster” Haltio Ngata to protect him. If he comes to Baltimore, he will once again be a pro bowler

Also

Baltimore really doesnt run a 3-4. T-sizzle is down in a 3 point stance alot so vilma would be “Will” in our D on alot of plays.

Technically We Do Run a 3-4

Although they show a bit of everything on D

by DT711 on Jan 28, 2009 8:45 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

We run a hybrid

with Suggs either standing on non-obvious passing downs or putting his hand on the ground in 3rd and longs. Vilma would do just fine in the middle of that, but I doubt he’s coming here, as he might cost as much as re-signing Bart to that “Home Team Discount!”

Defintely

I am a huge fan of Vilma cause of him being from the U, but Bart seems to be a little more scrappier than Vilma. I love Bart’s drive when he is on the field.

Yeah no doubt

I’ll take bart any time over Vilma. I was just thinking of a replacement for him if we dont re-sign him.

Tavares Gooden

Cant go wrong with the guy. All the Defensive guys on the team say he is the fastest Line Backer on the team. He is from the U, Ray Lewis loves him, and he is going to be the next great LB on this team.

Ray and T-Good roomed with each other during training camp because Ray requested it so he could show T-Good the ways to be the next great U player on this team.

I am really excited to see him get his shot.

I would love to post some of the lyrics

But they are very naughty. My favorite has to be G-Reg, Greg Olsen on the Bears. Eminem like……

Anquan Boldin

ya know I recently heard that Cardinals wide reciever Anquan Boldin stated that he would restructure his contract and take a pay cut if he had to, to keep fitzgerald on the team so they could continue to succeed. Thats what NFL players should be all about and if Suggs is gonna be that way for any reason then why does it matter, its a VERY good thing that he wants everyone to stay.. thats what I think.
