Eagles Could Part ways with Lito Sheppard

I've just read on http://www.ffmastermind.com/quickbits.php#154086 that the Eagles may part ways with Former pro bowl Corner, Lito Sheppard. If Philly can resign CB Joselio Hanson to be their nickel, its a great chance that Philadelphia will cut ties with Lito. If this happens, it would be a great opportunity for Baltimore to sign one of the better DB's in the game.

Lito Sheppard was a 1st round pick(26th overall) in 2002. In 2004, he lead the philadelphia Eagles in interceptions earning his 1st pro bowl selection. In 2006, he again lead phiily with 6 picks and another pro bowl selection.

This would be a great signing for Baltimore if he becomes available. Not to long ago, this guy was consider one of the top 5 corners in the league. I believe if we get him here in Baltimore, he can re-achieve his probowl status. Not only would this help slove a problem we've have in baltimore for a while, but it could also free us up some cap space and we sign him and let C-mac go. I'd rather have them both but that is a very unlikely possibility.

YES!

That would be an amazing signing! He is playing in his prime and does not have much room to shine in Phili with Samuels and Brown at CB. This would be a very good pick up for us. Also, Lito and Samari are very good friends if you guys did not know that. They took a 3 week trip to Africa a few years ago with their wives and Fred Taylor and his wife. Their plane almost crashed and everyone could have died, but they pulled through. True story.

This would be another amazing pick up by Ozzie. Love to have a football player like that on our team.

Thought this last year

when the Eagles signed Samuel. Though their three corners were one too many but I guess not. I’d love to have him but that’s more money spent on the defensive side of the ball.

True

But if we cut c-mac, that will save us 8 million against the cap. We could use at least half of that to sign lito. Also, If we dont get lito, we could go after D.Hall. I know he had a bad season in oakland, but i believe he can play very well with us.

If we can't find a way to pry Nmadi from Oakland

Then I’m all for bringing Lito on board. Since McAlister is out the door, we can afford to pay him.

No way were getting Nnmadi

Oakland getting ready to use the Tag on him as soon as they can. It’s a shame that a talent like that gotta be wasted on a team like oakland.

C-Mac has lost a ton of leverage so we might be able to keep him at a discount. But, i can’t imagine having an unhappy (contract wise) C-mac on the team. He might wear Rexx’s shirt onto the team bus and stuff like that… Lito, Reed, Leonhard, Washington would be a nice bunch. I also think we underestimate how much Zibby and Nakamurea grew this year. Either way, i think were okay here. I honestly think we will have a better D next year. We had a lot of question marks most of the time this year. It didn’t settle down in the D backfield until 3/4 through the season.

C-Mac will still

get a decent amount of cash on the open market. I’d re-sign him in a second but not at that high a cap number. The problem with re-signing Leonhard is that we have four safeties including him, and three of them would do just fine next to Ed if Leonhard costs too much. Something tells me just like others, he wouldn’t do nearly as well on the field with another team, but he would get his retirement funds up front!

Don't forget Walker

Everyone’s favorite whipping boy, Frank Walker, actually had a nice season when you remember he was signed to be our fourth corner. He started a bunch of games and improved throughout the season. If we can add more top end CB depth, it will allow Walker to slide back to nickel/dime back, a position where he is above average in the league. Don’t get me wrong, Frank Walker is NOT a starter quality NFL CB, but he is solid depth at the Ravens thinnest position.

Agree

He does not have the speed or reaction time to handle some of these WRs in the league, but he is a very physical player who will press right up against you. I mean, was I the only one who said “Oh thank god Walker is back” when Ogelsby was in there against Pitt? He will be a great nickel and dime DB for us. We will draft 1 or 2 CBs with out first day picks and/or look to FA. I like Frank to be honest, even though we saw some stupid penalties by him this year, at least it shows that he is aggressive enough and not afraid to get physical.

walker just makes me nervous with his C-mac tude. i want to get smarter back there as well. i might be misreading the guy..we’ll find out.

I know he was hurt Sunday

but he had that interception in the nedzone in his hands. If he holds onto it, they don’t kick that FG that gave them the 16-7 lead. We score and then lead 14-13 and it’s a whole new ballgame. We’d probably lose, of course, but it would have been different. I understand what you’re saying about Walker’s abilities, but to me, he’s just another Donnie Brady (remember him? for a while I always thought his name was Donnie Brady-sucks!).

All I'm Saying Is

He is a damn good fourth CB. He does not have the best hands but he is athletic and very physical. When he has to start, like vs. the Steelers, its not good, but when is it ever good when a teams 4th CB is starting? In the AFC Championship game, no less? Considering how our 4th corner fared last year (prude, ogelsby, ivy), Walker has been worlds better. My point is I will be happy to have him as our dime back next year.

have to agreee. he played okay and is tough.

by raven on Jan 22, 2009 10:39 AM EST reply actions

Dime back, fine

but that only proves what we already know, and that is we need much more depth above him at the three other CB’s. If we had a healthy C-Mac, Samari, Fabian and then Frank Walker and/or Corey Ivy/Derrick Martin, we’d be in fine shape. the key word, however, is “healthy!”

Exactly

And thats why it is vital to replace to add two young talented corners this offseason. One to replace C-Mac, and another to fill in when Rolle gets inevitably hurt.

by DT711 on Jan 22, 2009 2:38 PM EST up reply actions

Fabian is fine on one side

but we need another because of Samari’ instability and to keep Ivy and Walker in reserve rolls. The guys at the top of the draft board at CB last season are ALL doing real well for their teams as rookies.
