2nd Half Open Thread

Well to be only down six points is almost a gift for us. One big play and we are in the lead. The loss of Ward was huge and will be a big whining excuse if they lose. Our DB's are falling like flies, though. We need to get to Ben and stop letting him run around there and dump off the short throws all the time.

No whining here

look, losing Hines is HUGE, but you need to understand 2 things (at least!)
(1) Being up 13-7 at the half is nothing to whine about
(2) The hit on Hines was hard and fair
(3) The Steelers are going to win this game
(4) and the whining started with you.

We can’t beat the Steelers and the refs together!

That roughing the kicker penalty was bogus, and there’s just no way to argue otherwise. Or are you watching the same game we are?

I want to be happy that both Walker and Ivey have gone down with injuries, but it’s definitely bittersweet. Is it too early to start talking about drafting some cornerbacks?

with the tackling we’ve exibited in the secondary tonight..let them fall like flies. gotta be someone on the bench who can tackle. fortunate ben is hurt and ward is out. we have our share of injuries too..so this evens it up a bit.

by raven on Jan 18, 2009 8:44 PM EST reply actions

Ray Rice Ray Rice Ray Rice..we are out of excuses for not getting him the ball. What about Figurs for a deep ball. Troy Smith for some plays. We played tit for tat the last to games with the Steelers. didn’t work. we also got a sneak preview to the last 2 minutes of this game just before half. we can’t give Ben another chance in a tight game. open it up now or hold your peace.

we should have established the run 1st quarter. that cracked them late in the game the first time. so far with our bombs and triple coverage passes we haven’t established one element of the game. you need one bread and butter to be there. deep passes taking way to long.

by raven on Jan 18, 2009 9:21 PM EST reply actions

Flacco making everyone

look right who said he’s still a rookie. Looks slow. Heap is absolutely wortthless and overpaid.

Rexx

by Rexx on Jan 18, 2009 9:22 PM EST reply actions

flacco just needs a rb outlet for his pass. he’s stuck with 3 receivers running with their backs towards him. no time for that. game plan? we are being out coached big time. they have a gimpy QB and lost their number 1 receiver. if we can’t come back. hats off.

Stone needs to be kicked off the team. he absolutely ruined our game for being such a tiny BS player. Stones responsible for Willis too.

Wow, I'm numb

I REALLY expected us to shock the world and win this game! Everyone at ESPN, CBS, and Fox picked the Steelers. Only John Madden took the Ravens. I so wanted to call in to Sirius NFL Radio Monday to really give it to them. Now I have to listen to them gloat on TV and Radio, as well as the Steelers fans who “troll” over on this site to rub it in. Doubt I’ll sleep well tonite.

if someone told you at the beginning of the year that you would make the AFC championship game with a rookie HC and a rookie QB you would have gladly called that a successful season after what happened last year

thanks steelinnj, you were by far the better team 3-0 vs us. i hope you win it for the AFC North. not upset at all here. the 3-0 takes the sting out of it. no flukes. your bad punt gave us hope..and we evened the score with a personal foul.

Rookie Head Coach, Rokkie QB and we made it all the way to the AFC championship? You cant be disapointed in this team. Next season is our year. Get Flacco a WR (Heyward-bey), draft a CB and get to the superbowl next season.

nice plan Ben, I’ll be watching too see if that happens. I had a lof of fun watching this team this year and unfortunately my plans for a Ravens Super Bowl are spoiled but this Super Bowl will be appealing in about 2 weeks, need time too digest this loss properly. Great season guys, looking forward too Tuesday, when history will be made.

I hate to say it

but Flacco was brutally bad in this game. Not the only fault obviously, but he was atrocious.

by thedecline19 on Jan 18, 2009 10:28 PM EST reply actions

Its funny

Coming into this game, everyone thought this was going to be Flacco’s best game of the season, Turns out to be his worst. Cam should have ran it way more then what we did. The 1st two games against pitt. we run it down their thorats with McClain and Willis. This game, McClain only had 1 carry for 3 yards and even tho willis had 2 td’s, he had 20 attempts and only 60 yards.

Congrats on a Great Season

Your Ravens had a terrific season. I picked them for last in the AFC North at the start of the season, and boy was I wrong. The two best teams in the AFC made it to the AFC Championship, and I am glad for it.

So congrats… I only wish that you guys wouldn’t be such tough competition for my steelers next year!

by PaulMorel on Jan 18, 2009 10:41 PM EST reply actions

A shame that the Ravens’ offense didn’t play as well as they had most of the season — not even close to it. Baltimore definitely exceeded my expectations for the season though. It’ll be interesting to see if Joe Flacco learns from this experience and builds on his positives next season, or if he’ll suffer from any form of sophomore slump.

Hopefully the Browns make the right additions in the offseason to compete next year — sure we face easier divisions next year than we did this year, but we’ll also have to contend with the “final two AFC teams” a total of four times.

I was surprised by the lack of touches McClain received in this game…was it just me that was surprised, or did you guys expect McGahee to get most of the workload?

Dawgs By Nature - Find out why Pittsburgh still sucks.

by Chris Pokorny on Jan 18, 2009 10:44 PM EST reply actions

I think

and I am just guessing at this…that McClain was more beat up going into this game than the team let on.

I am looking forward to see how the Browns do in the off season and next year. I think you guys were smart in getting Manginni, Manginna, Mannn…screw it, the Jets old coach. I think he will do much better with the Cleveland crowd than the crazy New York media. Plus, aren’t you guys poaching someone from our front office? As disappointing as your season was, at least your franchise is trying to make changes and not accept the status quo as opposed to the Mike Brown circus. Aside from having to play the Ravens and the Steelers four times next year, I wouldn’t be surprised if you guys pull a Miami and string a lot of wins together with a softer schedule. I was pretty shocked at the Browns implosion this year…but again, at least your organization is making adjustments and not just suing your ticket holders like they do in Cinn.

There is no shame

in losing to a team as good as the Steelers. I will be rooting for them to punish the Cardinals. To look at this entire season in perspective, this was an amazing ride. This game just showed that we didn’t have the offensive weapons to match up with the Steelers. Flacco played well beyond his rookie tag and I really think Cam got a lot out of this offense. Just look at the injuries and the brutal schedule we put up with. Who else besides me can’t wait for draft day? This will just serve for fuel to the wonderful rivalry between the Steelers and the Ravens. Still hard to believe just how well the Ravens did this year considering that many had us battling with the Bengals for bottom of the division. This is another wonderful page in the history of the Ravens franchise…

I have never been more proud of the Ravens.

It was a tough loss, but they battled. They are, BY FAR, the toughest team in the NFL. We will be hard to beat for years to come.

The heart of this team showed all year and actually taught me a few things about being a man. I love this team. I love the new coaching staff, the new O-line and Joe Flacco. I can’t wait until next season, but I’m also going to enjoy the draft and the off-season!

GO RAVENS!

Good game guys!

I personally think this might have been Baltimore’s best chance at a SB for quite some time, but it was still a heckuva season. What a turnaround from 07. Will be interested to see what happens with Rex Ryan, Ray Lewis and a few others. Some tough choices to be made this offseason getting the team to another level.

by Michael Bean on Jan 18, 2009 11:54 PM EST reply actions

Tough luck

It will take Flacco a good 2 more years to be able to beat a defense like the Steelers have by himself like he had to at some point. He’ll get there, he has everything but experience to get there. I hope McGahee is alright, I still haven’t heard anything from him.

Mother---- him and John Wayne!

Congrads to the Ravens for a great year and a great effort last night ..

It was such a brutal game, can’t help but be impressed with both teams. A lot of us Steeler fans thought Flacco would struggle today but man he’s a rookie and he’s showed so much moxie to lead his team to the AFC Championship game he looks a 100% cert franchise QB for years to come …

Good luck next year… but don’t forget to tune in 2 weeks from now to see Lombardi #6 coming to Steel Town :-)

by Rash92 on Jan 19, 2009 7:58 AM EST reply actions

These Two Teams Could Make The Road To the Lombardi Come Through the AFC North For Years To Come!

How many would love to see the most heated rivalry continue to make these two teams that much better than the rest of the league? I can’t discount the brilliance of Warner to Fitz/Boldin, but I’m pretty sure that most of those Cards (other than the ex-Steelers that had to play the Ravens) have had to face teams that bring this type of excellence combined with sheer physical violence. I’m not sure they’re ready for that.

Here’s to AFC North domination for years to come, the recovery of McGahee, and a 6th Steelers SB Ring!
