A Ravens "Salute" to Steelers Fans
(Click below for a great image!)
Here are a few funny ones I heard the other day:
NUMBER 1
On the first day of school a first grade teacher explains to her class
that she is a Steelers fan.
She asks her students to raise their hands if they, too, are Steelers
fans.
Wanting to impress their teacher, everyone in the class raises their
hand except one little girl.
The teacher looks at the girl with surprise, 'Janie, why didn't you
raise your hand?'
Because I'm not a Steelers fan,' she replied.
The teacher, still shocked, asked, 'Well, if you are not a Steelers fan,
then who are you a fan of?'
'I am a Ravens fan, and proud of it,' Janie replied.
The teacher could not believe her ears. 'Janie please tell us why you
are a Ravens fan?'
Because my mom is a Ravens fan, and my dad is Ravens fan, so I'm a
Ravens fan too!''
Well ,' said the teacher in a obviously annoyed tone, 'that is no reason
for you to be a Ravens fan. You don't have to be just like your parents
all of the time. What if your mom was an idiot and your dad was a moron,
what would you be then?' Then,' Janie smiled, 'I'd be a Steelers fan.'
NUMBER 2
A Redskins fan, an Eagles fan, a Ravens fan, and a Steelers fan - are
climbing a mountain and arguing about who loves his team more.
The Redskins fan insists he is the most loyal. 'This is for the
Redskins! ' he yells, and jumps off the side of the mountain.
Not to be outdone, the Eagles fan shouts, 'This is for the Eagles!' and
throws himself off the mountain.
The Ravens fan is next to profess his love for his team. He yells,
'This is for everyone!' and pushes the Steelers fan off the m ountain.
NUMBER 3
A Ravens fan liked to amuse himself by scaring every Steelers fan he saw
strutting down the street in an obnoxious Black & Gold shirt. He would
swerve his van as if to hit them then s werve back just missing them.
One day while driving along, he saw a priest. He thought he would do a
good deed, so he pulled over and asked the priest, 'Where are you going,
Father?'
'I'm going to give Mass at St. Francis church, about two miles down
the road,' replied the priest. 'Climb in, Father. I'll give you a lift!'
The priest climbed into the passenger seat, and they continued down the
road.
Suddenly, the driver saw a Steelers fan walking down the road, and he
instinctively swerved as if to hit him. But, as usual, he swerved back
onto the road just in time.
Even though he was certain that he had missed the guy, he still heard a
loud THUD. Not knowing where the noise came from, he glanced in his
mirrors but still didn't see anything.
He then remembered the priest, and he turned to the priest and said,
sorry Father , I almost hit that Steelers fan.'
'That's OK,' replied the priest 'I got him with the door.'
The opinions posted here are those of the administrator of this blog and his loyal readers. They are in no way official comments from the team, and should not be misconstued as such, even though he thinks he could do just as well or even a better job!

Those first two were just plain tired,
Used to use the top one before the Ravens even existed, only with the teacher being a browns fan.
The last one was new, or new to me at least. Or maybe it’s just the irony of my signaturem which I have used forever.
"Damnit mom! You almost ran over Greg Lloyd!"
at an autograph signing back in 95. He walked out in front of our minivan, and my mom almost hit him. He apologized.

As for the fans, any fan base that proclaims to have some sort of “Nation” automatically gets pegged as a bunch of dipshits. That’s just the way it works. The Red Sox made sure of that. Go SteelerNation

birdland (orioles) falls under everything. every year. prime example of the mega wealthy thinking they know sports better than the players and peeps. the one thing that keeps me from going crazy about the crappy O’s is that there is know way they can compete $$ wise with the Yanks and Sox. There needs to be a cap. I don’t like baseball anymore because of the salaries. Boarders on insanity. Plus, North American players are being squeezed from their own sport. Just more cash being exported.

That's a joke, right? : )
No one talks about BirdLand in Baltimore. The Orioles are irrelevant.
Now Ravens Roosts are OK. They are a resurrection of the old Colts Corral clubs (which used to be national). Local fans rooting for the team.
Designating oneself a “nation” is laughable. The Red Sox already did it and ruined whatever positive connotation it may have ever had. Any fan base that follows suit has no imagination and are stupid ignorant enough to follow a marketing strategy trying to copy something the Red Sox are loathed for. Buy your Steeler Nation trinkets and proclaim that you are not a thinking fan and just buy into some kind of marketing bullshit.

I always get annoyed
going to a bar to watch a game and its filled with people that spend more on their outfits than I spend on 3 months of rent and they have no freaking clue what they are watching. Like when idiots boo an offside call like the ref is supposed to ignore that for the Ravens. I don’t care what team you support, an ignorant, annoying, ass is just that. This is what I like about sbnation. The ignorant ass to knowledgable fan ratio is a lot lower here than many other places.

Oh I'll agree
that a lot of the hate directed to the Yankees and the Lakers is because they are both well operated franchises…of course having a boat load of money to eat terrible signings allow for more mistakes. Not every signing for the Yanks or Lakers have turned out great. As for the Raiders…they have been a joke since the Ravens beat them in the playoffs. Its kind of sad to see Al Davis run the team into the ground. I would imagine it would be like if Madden was still coaching a team and didn’t have to worry about ever getting fired. I think a huge reason that a lot of teams struggle has less to do with on the field than the mess in the front office. Any other CEO would be fired immediately for how Mike Brown and the Ford Family have turned their franchises into jokes.

Most of those blocks
were cheap shots that should have drawn either a flag or an ejection. The hit on Bart Scott was legal, the one on the Browns player was after the play was over. The one on Ed Reed, where he signaled to the sideline like a jerk was leading with his helmet to the face, which is illiegal. Don’t be proud of the guy just because he’s not man enough to hit a guy when they expect. He gets his jollies taking cheap shots at unsuspecting defenders, as opposed to most guys who say, “here I come!”

Most players in the NFL
don’t lay cheap shots on unsuspecting players after the play is over. My point is that Ward is not man enough to go right at a guy to amke the block or much less take it. His rep as a great blocker is mostly due to his highlight reel late hits/cheap shots. Ask anyone outside of Pittsburgh. That said, I’ll still take him on my team anyday!

I think his rep as a good blocker comes from the fact that he hustles hard and loves doing it. As you can see from this quote in a recent Baltimore Sun article Ward is just as puzzled by the lack of love he gets in Baltimore as I am:
But I love Baltimore, why would they dislike me?" Ward said, smiling and/or smirking, yesterday. "I love the crab cakes there.
“It’s a big honor, I guess,” he continued about the distinction of being a player Ravens fans love to hate. "I’m just playing football; I don’t know why a whole city would dislike me. Maybe I smile too much and they don’t like that I’m happy all the time.

Ask anyone outside of Pittsburgh
The answer is that people outside of pittsburgh don’t know shit about hines ward. If you did watch every steelers game and paid attention to hines ward, you would know that anytime he isn’t getting ready to catch the ball he is blocking. He blocks downfield for a run, he blocks downfield for another receiver, he lines up on the O-line and blocks for a run once in awhile. His blocking has also carried over to our other receivers who now do a great job of blocking. If the only thing you can pay attention to in highlights is big hits then that is your loss. What you don’t see is our receivers making great blocks up the field. For every “cheap shot” ward makes he probably blocks another 100 times. Sorry dude, hines ward is a great blocker, “cheap shots” and all. If you don’t think that’s the case, then my previous judgment of you was incorrect, and you don’t know dick about football.

true dat
Hines is a leader on the Steelers. He sets the tone for the rest of the offense. As Heath Miller said
“We try to be a physical team around here, and when you have a receiver who blocks as well as he does and cares about blocking as much as he does, that sets the tone for the rest of the team, because as an offensive lineman or even as a tight end, you don’t want a receiver blocking better than you do. So you just try to keep up with his pace.”
Not only is Hines a great blocker – but if you watch the Steelers other receivers they usually improve drastically while playing next to ward. Randle El – used to make great blocks for a little guy. Santonio has started picking up the pace. The only exception was Plaxcio – and the Steelers FO sniffed that rat out in time.
Hines is not only a great player, but a great leader. In a league with big mouthed, high ego wide receivers, this guy is a hard working, tough as nails role model. Remember his reputation for toughness isn’t only for flattening linebackers with hard blocks, but also for going up the seam the very next play, getting clobbered and hanging on to the ball. There are more talented receivers out there for sure, but there isn’t one I would rather have as the role model and leader for the Steelers offense.

ok, I can meet halfway
he might not have his rep without his so called cheap shots, but I think that’s because good blocking can go under the radar. Surely the splash plays and straight up jackings make people pay more attention to the more subtle, useful blocks that lengthen plays.
Why do you dislike Ward more now than earlier in the season?
I’ve actually gained respect for Ed Reed this season. He’s a good football player. That one interception in Miami, the one he didn’t return all the way, was incredible. And I have nothing bad to say about Flacco except for the unibrow thing. Even suggs busted his balls for that.

I think it speaks to the good rivalry that there is some bad blood between these teams. Like I said, I do not like Ray Lewis. I think that the bounty talk was lame and stupid. I don’t know if Ed Reed was trying to hurt Johnson last week – I will give him the benefit of the doubt, because I didn’t see the replays closely. I probably wouldn’t if I was a Titans fan.
But I do respect both guys. They are great football players. They play the game physically, the way its supposed to be played. Who ever wins this game will have EARNED the trip to the superbowl.

There’s a name for those cheap shots when someone isn’t in the play and is generally out of position or unprepared. It’s called “crippling the dummy”. Problem is, you’re not always a dummy as you can’t be prepared for all possibilities. A lot of players don’t do it. Ward does. That makes him questionable in most people’s book. You think he’s doing the guy a favor. Lots of bravado for a guy who isn’t out there.

SBNation is traditionally supposed to be opinions based on facts, but you don’t seem to subscribe to philosophy. Instead you believe that your opinion is just as valid as someone who actually knows what they are talking about – in this case, Hines Ward’s blocking. You obviously know nothing about it and are talking about it as if you do.
That’s uninformed and bullshit, and masquerading it as an opinion so that it can’t be attacked is the poorest debate tactic known to man. This is all because “you aren’t man enough” to say that you are wrong – which you are. I’m wrong about ravens players all the time, but I can admit it. You seem incapable of admitting when you have NO idea what you are talking about – which in this instance is true.

You need to cool it! You’ve been a decent poster here for awhile, but the insistence on making those personal comments along with the foul language will not be tolerated. I said it’s my opinion and you need to drop it and move on. Keep it up and we will all miss the rest of your insightful and enjoyable contributions. It’s just not worth it.

I saw a funny poem today
on a Rental Store’s sign. It read,
Steelers are fast,,
Steelers are quick,
Hines Ward is such a jerk!
