To put to rest that the better team did, in fact, win Saturday...
Did anyone else find it odd at the lack of replays CBS chose to air during the Ravens/Titans game?
Just to segue into this article at ProFootballTalk.com.
During the game, I was wondering about CJ actually getting out of the endzone on that play too, but I never noticed the "extra" down TEN got. This article pretty much takes any argument about the delay of game no-call and makes it null and void.
Any thoughts?
The opinions posted here are those of the administrator of this blog and his loyal readers. They are in no way official comments from the team, and should not be misconstued as such, even though he thinks he could do just as well or even a better job!

That’s a very enlightening website. They screwed us out of a safety, they got an extra down, they had three crucial red zone turnovers, they didn’t win, and they’re still the better team? How delusional do you have to be to think that in the face of Saturday’s choke job. I can just see everyone in Tennessee sticking their fingers in their ears and singing “la la la la la.”

yeah i noticed the lack of replay..thank the lord for TIVO and slow mo. (steeler trapped the INT last night by the way). i have replayed rays flip of the titan second to last play of game. kung fu grip and flip. i didn’t remember an “extra play”..i have a slow computer (trouble bouncing to other sites) so when was that…

Yeah, the major argument against complaining about getting screwed on a play that happened in the fourth quarter is that you never remember what mistakes the refs made before the third quarter.
They’re not perfect, and unable to become perfect for just the fourth quarter.

The "blown" non-call...
…is another issue that is lingering after the game. I have heard Titan’s fans talking about the non-call on the delay of game since it was…um…not-called. I think that Nick Harper (yes, a Titans player) put it into the best perspective that I have seen yet.
“It was a good football game, and I guess the refs didn’t want to get involved,” cornerback Nick Harper said. “But sometimes you have to make those calls when it’s an obvious penalty. For some reason they decided to let us play, and (Flacco) was able to make a play.”
In essence, the Titans were asking for a call. They wanted the referee to help them. What ever happened to “let us play?” Did the extra second really benefit Flacco or hurt the Titans? NO! The fact remains that Flacco made the play with the game on the line.
After all the times that we have seen the referees step in and determine the outcome for the Ravens (Steelers games, TITANS game, Patriots game last year), it feels like sweet justice that the Ravens capitalized on a “non-call.” LET THEM PLAY!

What the Titans fans seem to miss
is that even if that play had been called for delay of game, Flacco still ripped off a pass. For. 23. YARDS. On 3rd and 2. The penalty could have been for 20 yards and he still would have gotten the 1st down.

Titans fans don’t think the Ravens wouldn’t have a first down. Titans fans think the Ravens kicker would not like 5 extra yards added to the kick.

Congratulations!
I will be on the Ravens bandwagon for the rest of the playoffs.
I love Flacco, that kid is amazing! Hard to believe he’s a rookie!

You know whats really funny
I heard that if the Ravens didnt draft Flacco, that the Colts were taking a serious look at scooping him up in the first round.

All I have to say is that you guys are amazing.
I come over here to congratulate you for your team’s win and you ridicule me?
What a great fan base.
I still like Flacco, regardless of your attitudes.

Which makes this even more amusing – chokers.

Thanks
Is that the score of the Ravens beating the Steelers if so I will pull you onto the wagon as we are riding to the SB but I have a couple of buddy’s that need to run next to the wagon if you know what I mean. If you don’t I am trying to say they are FAT and need to lose a couple of pounds.

I WANT REX RYAN TO TAKE THIS JOB!
You have to hate losing more than you love winning
by Mr MaLoR on Jan 12, 2009 1:31 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
WHAT? WHY?
Why in the world would you want Ryan to go to Indianapolis? Don’t they have enough information about exploiting our defense already?
I’m still hoping that Rex Ryan will stay in Baltimore.
by BAL_Hawk on Jan 12, 2009 1:34 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I mean of course I want him to stay in Baltimore
Who doesnt? But the fact of the matter is that he is too good of a coach to stay at defensive coor for us. The reason I say I would like him to take that job is because I would hate for Rex to go to a team like Detroit or somewhere that doesnt have a future for a long time. I want Rex to succeed in this league, he deserves it. Think about how bad it would be if he goes to Detroit and goes 2-14, how aweful would you feel?

like Nolan and Marvin Rexx is expendable with our on field coaches. I won’t miss his bend against good qbs/4th quarter D however. We need a ton more pressure from our D line to get over the steelers, colts, patriots.

If he does go...
…I was sort of hoping we could bring back Mike Nolan for the d-coordinator job. However, it appears he’s going to take the same position in Denver now.

i dont remember much pressure from his line either..may be wrong. we just need Lawrence Taylor in the draft.

even more revealing is the fact that his knee came down and then he fell forward to his elbow. so, technically, the ball was deeper behind the line than the picture reveals. Safety!

What's the point of this?
The delay of game fiasco did not cost us the game and this non-call would not have affected the outcome, either. The Titans did not score on this drive, and the Ravens did not score on the next drive. So it doesn’t matter.
Do you have to blame the officials win or lose?
Enjoy the win! The Ravens earned it! We are not arguing that! (OK, at least the rational ones of us aren’t!) Please don’t link this crap on our site. Let us mourn in peace.

i’m making strides…agree as well about leaving the game alone but i am just trying to level the officiating palying field so i can feel even better about the win…and i can’t get the site of poor CJ sitting on the bench with his hood on…with the unfortunate tick he has. man i felt for him..actually thought reed was a dick for bending him back like that. could have really hurt CJ’s back/knees. i can only hope the whistle was late and thats why reed kept bending him. couldn’t believe the only guy that got on reed was the rookie who wasn’t supposed to start. i would have pounded reed for doing that shit to my teammate…..but, the personal foul call away from that play was definately good. Your big goof baby face o-lineman close lined Jared Johnson and almost broke his neck. pretty sick how his neck snapped back. that evened it out.
by raven on Jan 12, 2009 10:13 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Come on, it's a physical game
Very few players deliberately try to hurt another player (except Hines Ward, of course). Reed and whomever else was bending CJ back was just trying to stop his forward progress, no different from backing a guy up from making the first down until the team piles on and he goes down. Stop with the purposeful comments already! Grow some stones!

If you send a tiny back up the middle, you have to expect our guys to put him into a Gumby-like pose eventually. Keep them on the outside runs, or don’t whine when he gets hurt. Besides, wasn’t it an ankle injury that sidelined him?

you can’t say the lengthy “bend” wasn’t out of the ordinary play of football. nuff said on this…sorry for offending football manhood by noticing a dangerous play.
by raven on Jan 13, 2009 2:54 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
UPON further review
i saw a closer camera angle to the “bend” incident. first, the whistle Didn’t Blow while Ed was GOING FOR THE BALL more than CJ’s head. So, sorry Ed for calling the play a dick move. The first time I saw it from a further out angle (NFL Replay had a close up).. it wasn’t nearly as bad as it looked for the distant shot. But the close-line on Jared by Stevens was a major.

Not to beat a dead horse...
and not that I really care because the Ravens won anyway…
but

how does this sequence of events add up?
1st-10 TEN 12, CJ 7yds, PENALTY, -9yds:
If the penalty took place before the snap, it would have been (half the distance to the goal) 1st-16 from the TEN 6.
If the penalty took place after the play was over, it would have been something like this:
CJ 7yds would make it 2nd-3 from the TEN 19, -9yds (PENALTY, half the distance to the goal) would make 2nd-12 from the TEN 10. Look closely… the next line says 1st-12 TEN 10.
If the penalty took place during the play is where I’m unsure. Would the penalty be assessed from the original line of scrimmage, the spot of the foul, or the end of the play? None of which would result in 1-12 from the TEN 10.
The original line of scrimmage would have been at best like if the foul occured pre-snap, but I think the down still would have counted. The spot of the foul certainly wouldn’t negate the first play, would it? The end of the play would have been 2nd-12.
I’m just looking for some clarification if anyone can give it to me. Thanks.
