Heap is garbage
Todd Heap has been injury prone and a sissy for many years now. I am absolutely tired of his effort and performance. The only time you heard his name get called last night was for a holding penalty. I am finished with him. In a Cam Cameron offense that is supposed to be built around tight ends Todd Heap has shown that not only is he not even a shell of himself, he is nothing at all. If anyone can tell me in recent memory when the last time Todd Heap has done anything for this team i would like to know. Heap must go. If we dont bench him he'll be injured soon anyway. Mason cant carry the load by himself. Hey mr. heap tell me where have you been.
The opinions posted here are those of the administrator of this blog and his loyal readers. They are in no way official comments from the team, and should not be misconstued as such, even though he thinks he could do just as well or even a better job!

Are you serious?
The Raven’s all-time leading reciever. He is still under 30, and in his prime. Yeah, he has had a rough time with injuries, but many great tight ends struggle with injuries.
Man, talk about “What have you done for me lately?”
Heap Garbage..Empty Can click
How right you are Fan52. The last time he had an impact on a game was when he dropped Boller’s lazer that would have won the game in Cincy to start last season.
I kind of remember a a pass over the middle he caught against the Broncos that was kind of good..can’t remember the year. Let’s see..what else did he do. Oh, he brought his wife to his first spring training. Not much of a biography. He just show’s you how the national media are all bandwagon. They still talk about this guy like he’s Tony Gonzales. They also said the Raven’s were dominating the Steelers last night..with what – 13 points!!? HA ha what a joke.
The Ravens
were dominating the Steelers. Our defense dominated their offense for 2 1/2 quarters.
Kevbo: [to George Sherrill] George, you look a lot like Vin Diesel...
Flatbill: Let's get somethin' straight... Vin Diesel looks like me.
-From "The Making of Orioles Magic"
Domination is a word reserved for 4 quarters..not 2.5.
If you want to break domination down to quarters there would be domination by every team every week. We blow our energy for the first 2 quarters every year. Show me 4 quarters of domination against a WINNING team and I’ll mention our Raven’s in the same breath as the Colts, Patriots, Jaguars, Chargers, Eagles, Giants and yes ready for prime time Steelers etc…Ray’s pumping up fizzles midway through most 3rd quarters. We are still a tier 2 team until we can finish against a winning team when it counts nationally.
Heap = Invisible Man
You mention the ball that Boller bounced off his face in the first game last season in Cincy at the goal line as the last time you remembered him being in a game. Just before that was the fumble in the final and only playoff game against the Colts the season before.
Now Heap is the invisible man. Either no one has confidence in him, he never gets open or he’s staying in to block every play. For Daniel Wilcox, who was injured most of last year, to get the TD reception shows me that Cameron is not impressed enough w/ Heap’s talent to make the effort to get him the ball. Believe me, if Cameron thought Heap could be a major contributor, he’s make damn sure Flacco got him the ball. Obviously, he’s not a factor in the team’s gameplan. I’ve felt he was overrated for a couple of years now. He may have been real good years ago, but his injuries have made him unreliable and inconsistent and he is pretty much done. I fully expect the Ravens to draft a TE to replace him next season, and we will probably see more of Wilcox as he is a better blocker and more mobile. Heap may have some decent catches, but he is in the bottom half of the league’s TE’s.

Fine, even so,..
…then what you’re saying is that he can’t get separation anymore, which is still a problem. Either way, he’s the Invisible Man on this team. If we can get him more involved, then Flacco has another target other than Mason. At some point, opponents will double Mason and shut him down. Flacco is going to need another go-to guy and Heap should be that person. Of course, we could always use first round bust Mark Clayton, and perhaps even throw something other than one bomb a game at D. Williams! I liked rookie Marcus Smith during the preseason and would like to see him develop a bond w/ Flacco over the next, say, ten years or so. That would be….nice.
Rexx
I disagree
He’s not saying Heap can’t get separation, he is saying that teams roll double coverage his way due to his rep.
Exactly.
Everyone knows that the Ravens look for Heap in the endzone. On the Wilcox touchdown, we used play-action to suck Polamalu toward the line. Wilcox headed toward the corner and got the touchdown.
If Heap had been on that side, I don’t think Polamalu would have been fooled by the play action.
More D-Williams
D-Williams is our best cross pattern threat. He’s a YAC guy if you just lead him a little. Billick was the most anti-YAC coach in history…but he was the best stop and stand 6 yard play caller on 3rd and 8. I can’t help it…I’ll slam that season wasting clown every chance I get. I think ESPN got Professor Billick for the same reason they have Tim Kurchen- to have another long winded head in the book dork to goof on… I do like Baltimore guy Tim though.
Before anyone can make a catch we have to fix that blind side O line for Flacco. That was ridiculous. He had less than 3 seconds on a number of occasions. I thought we should have let him roll out more often. He seems confortable in that roll..unlike Screetch (Boller).
Isn't Billick with Fox and NFL Network, Not ESPN?
And let us not forget, he led us to a super bowl. The speech about going into the Lion’s Den Screaming Like a Banshee is one of my all time favorite Ravens moments.
Billick was a great motivator...
…and team spokesperson. He would take a bullet for any of his players as he did during the Super Bowl run in defending Ray Lewis and even visiting Jamal when he made his “mistake.” He just never turned out to be the gameplanning coach everyone expected him to be from an offensive perspective. Glad that he’s gone, but I still have great respect for the man. And yes, the “…screaming like a banshee…” speech was a great one!

You drank the Kool-Aide
Wow…no touchdowns in 5 straight games? Needing freak plays in the playoffs to get to the Super Bowl. Riding and wearing out his D to keep his job. Time outs after seemingly every 10 yard play. Momentum killer every drive. Typical Brian call-First and goal on the Redskins 1 and he lets Banks throw 3 times (INT) and miled mannered Ogden (Who I bet can’t stand Billick) throws his helmet. The guy was a total bs’er. Ray motivated those teams then Sharp and Woodson joined in. Billick road the perfect wave. All he had to do was develop one quarterback and receiver in his time. One! he couldn’t give us that not because they weren’t out there but because he wasn’t going to be proven wrong- which he more often than not was. Baltimore gave him a pass for some crazy reason. When he was in Minn. they changed his plays in the huddle- ask Chuck Evans who said that on the radio. He’s long winded. That’s it. I hope he coaches again so you can see what a piece of work he is without Ray. “Great respect”? He used us and kept superstars out of the Super Bowl. Let’s balance out Ray’s D with Stoney Case, Boller, Mitchell, Banks. I’m surprised the team didn’t mutany years ago. He can’t get out of the way of his ego.
That's true, but...
…if we had gotten rid of Billick after the first bad season, everyone would be saying the same thing that they say about Trent Dilfer. We let him got too soon. He won the Superbowl.
There isn’t an owner in this league that’s perfect. Superbowl trophies mean something, and sometimes it pays to ride out the storm. In the Ravens case, it didn’t pay, but there was no way to know that.
There was a way to know that..
I think most fans knew he couldn’t get it done because of fundamental play calling. That has deep roots for a guy who was supposed to be molded for offense. He did not recognize our strengths and it took Dilfer and Ray to beat into his head the meaning of ball control and clock management. It’s not hind sight for me to say I knew even before Ogden chucked his helmet that this guy was not who he said he was. Dilfer was screwed but I wouldn’t have banked on him to be a starter. I wouldn’t have let him go however. Not with his salary and passion. I think Billick got rid of anyone who called him out. Unfortunatly for Brian, Ray is a 500 ton statue in our city. Notice how he loved “yes men” QB’s..especially young guys who fed his ego. Could you see Favre, Manning, Brady with Billick- they’d change every other play like Randall did in Minn.. There were a number of games where we would have better served by Randall in the red zone. I remember a game against Minn. on national tv in Billicks earlier years. We had a big lead and Brian continued to chuck bombs down field. The announcers where stunned. This disbelief, stunned effect happened to almost every ammouncer/Hall of Famers who called our games. That is a big reason why we get know national cred. Everyone says man your defense is great but, sheesh, you can’t get out of your own way. I think that will be different now but is it too late for burdened Ray?
One last point- check the play calling at the end of the first half when Billick’s Vikings and Atlanta were just about ready to head to the locker rooms during the playoffs years ago. The Vikings had 14-0 lead (I believe) and there was just a few tics on the clock. The Vikings had dominated and were a lock for halftime…but no. Someone called a long pass play from deep in his own territory which was picked. Atlanta scores 14-7 and momentum heading into half is gone! The Vikings were done because Anderson could now run free again. I didn’t know Billick then but was in total disbelief. I was not a believer when we picked Brian up. He had major talent on that domed pro-bowl offense and never gave us anything. He was a TE coach who was given the O-Coord. job because it was already established. Our team has been on .500 cruise control with a few miles per hour above and below every other year- Depending on the health of our D. No, I wouldn’t have cut Brian even after 3 years but to renew his contract was a big mistake and is still costing this team major bucks.
Our "long" list of somewhat legit O playmakers
In 12 years we’ve had: Derrick Alexander, Michael Jackson, Q. Ismail, Jermaine Lewis, Sharp, Mason, Kyle Richardson.
All time mega-bust and Billick excuse- Travis Taylor.
Kickers are Baltimores best friends
I had to throw a kicker in there….For the longest time our biggest relief was when we kicked it out of our zone and got it back to the D. I used to think (and still do) that we should elect to kick off to start the game to get field position and momentum……..Man, how did I forget Stover. No respect.
Worried about Stover
He’s not looked like the Stover of old. He’s missed way more this year and I hope he turns it around. His kickoffs have been surprisenly deep (that is him kicking off, isn’t it?), but I’m wondering at what point the tank runs dry?
Rexx
deep kicks
that’s alway we ever needed and never got. i’ll never understand why we didn’t get a real banger to make our D even stronger. Matt is a placement guy but screw that on kick offs..blast the ball.
Oh boy- I’m watching NFL network and Billick is just about to break down the Titan-Raven’s game. Can’t wait. Actually, he might get it right with his record against his buddy Fisher. I hate Brian’s flashes of goodness…it kept him here too long. Thank god for the Patriots or he’s still here.
