Ravens Fantasy Depth Chart

BALTIMORE RAVENS FANTASY DEPTH CHART

Key:

PTR = Position Tier Rank. This is the tier level where the player should be slotted in drafts.

1 = Elite Player.

2 = Solid Performer

3 = Backend starter/Bench fill-in

4 = Roster filler or long-term prospect

0 = No value

ITR = In The Rotation

PB = Position Battle

S = Starter

QB                                      PTR
Kyle Boller – PB                 3
Joe Flacco – PB                   4
Troy Smith – PB                  4
Summary:  If you’re looking to draft a Raven quarterback, then your fantasy team will be in a lot of trouble.  Flacco was drafted in the first round of the 2008 draft, so there is little doubt that he will be the starter eventually, but no telling when that time will be.  One would think Boller would at least start the season, but rumors abound that Smith has outplayed him in minicamps.  The starting QB job could be determined late in pre-season making those with early drafts gamble on whom the starter will be.

I would switch...

....Boller with Smith in your rankings. At this point, Smith is definitely ahead of Boller on the depth chart. The question will be whether or not Flacco actually beats out Smith to become the starter on Day One. John Harbaugh and Cam Cameron have no ties to Boller, so the competition will be on a level playing field (duh!). I personally like Troy Smith to start, as he has had a year of pro experience and Boller has proven that he’s not the answer. At the same time, everything I’ve heard or read says that Flacco’s physical attributes, and his ability to pick up the new system (remember, even though Smith has a year’s experience, he still is now in a completely new system) might actually put him in front for the starting gig.

TIme for a change

I agree with that Boller had his chance and clearly could not get it done. Flacco has the most upside, but if Smith has an excelent camp, it would not surprise me to see him as the game one starter. Good points.

Training Camp Update

I was out at the first day for veterans at the Ravens Training Camp today (See my posting). Boller is definitely not going to be the starter at this point. Troy Smith took snaps w/ the first team, and Flacco was next in line. Both would be risky picks in fantasy, as I’d consider taking one or both late in the draft after pretty much all the other slots are filled. Remember, this is also coming from a huge Ravens fan and I’ll still pass on them for my team!
