Shadow Draft
I wanted to try to do my own shadow draft with the Ravens. Just for fun to see how my picks would match up with the Ravens in the same spots. I thought I'd post it here so I'd have a copy I hopefully wouldn't lose. That way I could look back on it in a couple years. I used all of the Ravens picks after trades, except for the Joe Flacco trade. Personally I didn't like it. It seemed like a reach much like when we traded up for Kyle Boller. I hope I'm wrong, but I really didn't like Flacco coming in to this draft. Anyway, here's what I came up with:
ROUND 1 (Pick 26)- Antoine Cason-CB-Arizona: The secondary was really bad last season. Time to get some young guys in there so we can continue our defensive dominance.
ROUND 2 (Pick 55)- Chad Henne-QB-Michigan: Would have perfered to get a QB later, but it was hard to pass up Henne at this spot.
Round 3 (Pick 71)- Tavares Gooden-ILB-Miami: Same as the Ravens, great pick and can learn alot from fellow Hurricanes Ray Lewis and Ed Reed.
ROUND 3 (Pick 86)- Cliff Avril-DE-Purdue: Another young guy for the aging defense.
ROUND 3 (Pick 89)- Steve Slaton-RB-West Virginia: McGahee could use a solid back-up, Slaton could also eventually take over when McGahee is finished.
ROUND 3 (Pick 99)- Oniel Cousins-OG-UTEP: Same as the Ravens, need O-Linemen and seemed like the best available.
ROUND 4 (Pick 106)-Keenan Burton-WR-Kentucky: Liked him better than Marcus Smith.
ROUND 4 (Pick 133)-David Hale-OT-Weber State: Same as Ravens for same reason as Cousins.
ROUND 6 (Pick 206)-Haruki Nakamura-S-Cincinnati: Same as Ravens, looked like good value late in the draft.
ROUND 7 (Pick 215)-Erin Henderson-LB-Maryland: Take a chance on the local guy in the seventh round.
ROUND 7 (Pick 240)-Danny Woodhead-RB-Chadron State: Last pick might as well take a chance on the NCAA rushing record holder.
NOTE: Would have take Leodis McKelvin,CB,Troy with orginal first round pick and DeSean Jackson,WR,California with orginal second round pick.

Good picks
I agree with the CB first and the QB second. I might have taken Jenkins at 26 and if Flacco was still there in the second round, I'd probably have taken him over Henne, but I still like Henne a lot. After all, he started for four years against excellent competition. Good picks, especially Henderson, although I would have also loaded up on additional CB's. Thanks for the Diary.

Good Stuff
I wasn’t too excited about the trade up for Flacco either, probably could have got him or Henne in the second easily. I think the Gooden pick is huge, he looks like a beast. The only thing I really like from our actual picks to your shadow draft is Zbikowski, He looks like a great value pick in the third and could be an incredible ST player, he’s also a solid back up to Reed and Landry. Overall I like what we did in the draft and looking forward to seeing all the Rooks in Training Camp

Don't be surprised...
if Zbikowski ends up taking Landry’s job. When Reed was out last season, he looked lost back there. Zibby is a head knocker and although he was susceptible to missing the play by trying to make the big play, he’ll learn not to take so many chances (that’s Reed’s job!). Thanks for the post!
