Cornerstone of Ravens' Superbowl, Mike Flynn, released (oh, and also Mike Anderson)
The Baltimore Ravens cut ties with one of their longest-tenured veterans Thursday, releasing center Mike Flynn after a 10-year stint with the team.
"There are sad, tough days in this business, and this is one of those," said Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome. "Mike Flynn represents everything good about the Ravens."
Flynn was originally signed to the Ravens practice squad on December 3, 1997 and eventually worked his way into the starting lineup by the 2000 campaign. He rotated between the starting guard and center spots during Baltimore's Super Bowl XXXV championship run, and remained a first-teamer through the next eight seasons.
The Springfield, Mass., native started all 16 games during each of those eight seasons, and 115 contests overall. His 134 games played rank fourth in franchise history, behind mainstays Ray Lewis, Jonathan Ogden and Matt Stover.
"He was a long-time leader on our team," Newsome said of Flynn. "He fought his way into the NFL, fought his way into our starting lineup, and he fought to help us win."

Owings Mills, MD (Sports Network) - The Baltimore Ravens have released running back Mike Anderson, the team announced Wednesday.
Anderson played two seasons in Baltimore, backing up Jamal Lewis and Willis McGahee, carrying the ball 54 times for 245 yards and a touchdown.
Anderson exploded onto the scene as a rookie with the Denver Broncos in 2000, rushing for 1,487 yards and 15 touchdowns en route to earning Offensive Rookie of the Year honors. But the eight-year veteran has only topped the 1,000-yard mark once since his rookie season, when he toted the ball 239 times for 1,014 yards and 12 touchdowns for Denver in 2005.
For his career, the 34-year-old Anderson has 919 carries for 4,067 yards and 37 touchdowns, along with 92 catches for 727 yards and five scores.

Pretty sad to see one of our guys from that Super Bowl run be released, but you know, this kind of stuff has to happen. I truly hope that Anderson can stick somewhere. A guy who showed so much promise early on in his career, and then came back after injury, I just want him to end his career the right way, on a high note.
