Steeler's fan perspective
Cam Cameron should be coach of the year, he made the historically anemic Bmore offense work.
I am a steelers fan and am scared shitless for next week. We haven't won in Bmore since '03, you guys have 3 RB's we have about 1.5 (sorry Willie and Mewelde) our O-line is a joke and our offensive coordinator is inept.
Observations about Steeler offense. It got better because they realized how bad the o-line was, so lets of quick WR screens, bunch formations, and trickery i.e. pump fakes, misdirection etc. But no gadgets plays because the o-line is sooo bad.
The Ravens offense is hands down better than the Steelers. Special teams the Steelers may of finally got Holmes away from his fumbling problem on PR but our Punter is still really bad, bodes ill for field position battle.
Defensively the teams are a lot more evenly matched then people are saying. The only difference is that the Ravens gave up two blowouts to the Giants and the Colts (not meant to a be a slight). Outside of those two games they have been just as good as the Steelers.
Ravens win by 10 points

Thanks for the vote of confidence
The only thing that actually scares me about this game is that the damn Steelers always find a way to win in the final minutes. Too many times, I’ve thougt the wheels were coming off their bandwagon only to see them pull another one out of their asses at the last minute. To me, that’s the mark of a champion and we have not been able to do that – yet.

Pitt has the magic this year no doubt. they are patient and force mistakes. i think their lack of o is part of the plan. keep it close and spring Polamalu. it will be an unbelievable game with the nation watching. instant classic. we need this win in the worst way. it all comes down to Flacco. if he throws the ball away on intense blitzes he will be okay. if he thinks he can create with that D he will be sorry. against the Steelers, you need to run your play, if its not there throw it away. punt and play good d. it will come down to field position and i think we can suprise them by not giving them the much needed turnover. the same can be said for pitt considering we struggled to score against the skins without Ed Reed. I think Reed would be a great O gimick guy …
we got Ngata for the gimmick
he plays TE from time to time…
But dont forget that last drive, and there were a couple other moments through the game where our offense did good. Plus Ed didnt score that first TD McClain did..
Mind you, I was one of the people saying McClain needed to be playing over McGahee from the jump. This week McGahee provided proof of my point

Something tells me...
…that Cam Cameron has something left in his arsenal of tricks for this game. Hopefully, it’ll come early to put us in the driver’s seat and force the Steelers to play catch up.

trick plays
i have seen you guys run trick plays and i must admit i am a little afraid of them.
They can easily become BIG plays and put up points which are going to be scarce and will fire up the O and D and ST. hopefully those pages in the playbook are stuck together. lol

REAL steelers fan here...
this offense is still the offense from last year personnel-wise and it has the same o.c. at the helm as well. the o-line isn’t any worse this year than it was last year as well and remember this was a very good offense last year. every team can be out of rhythm for a stretch of games (indy in their first few games ring any bells?). bottom line is that this is basically the same team that embarrassed baltimore last year on national television. i think the only difference here is that baltimore has improved. i don’t think its enough though. the ground game won’t get it done but the REAL ben shows up for this game. 265 pass yds, 3 td’s – my prediction is steelers 24, ravens 17
This is also the same Steelers team that SQUEEKED by the Ravens in Week 4.
On paper, your Steelers got out played by a rookie head coach and rookie QB. This is not a league that lives by the past. It is all about what can you do for me RIGHT NOW! You guys won the game because of two plays in a 15 second span and some terrible calls by the reffs.
If you want to use that analogy of past games, then………THIS IS THE SAME RAVENS TEAM THAT BEATDOWN THE PITT 58-7 IN TWO GAMES IN 2006. MADE RUFFLESBURGER OUR BITCH AND YOU CRIED ALL SEASON AFTER THOSE GAMES. DONT BRING THE PAST INTO THIS, IT DOES NOT MATTER! WHAT MATTERS IS THIS SUNDAY!
And you are crazy if you think Ben will have that many yards and TDs without a running game and a constant pass rush in his face.
Here is a little reminder of what you can expect on Sunday, hope you have nightmares with this one
three things...
one: i guess i’m crazy because, yes, that’s what i think.
two: since when does “on paper” mean anything to anybody in football. that statement is highly debatable in any case since the steelers came away with the win. and…
three: you really need to get a dictionary and look up the definition of analogy.
Analogy
A similarity between like features of two things, on which a comparison may be based.
Did you not compare or base your team today around your team from last year? I think you did.
The “two things” would be the 2007 steelers and 2008 steelers. Go back to school
what where are you basing this assumptions from?
by Bleed-Black&Gold on Dec 9, 2008 5:49 PM EST up reply actions
actually...
an analogy is the comparison of two things that share a common trait but otherwise have little to nothing else in common and is primarily used to explain a complicated idea in terms of a more simplistic one. kind of like i’m doing now. let me give you a grade school example as you may not understand this at an adult level yet. let me know if i’m going to fast for you, here. you could draw an analogy between the skeleton of an animal and the steel frame of a car because they both provide a support for the surrounding systems that are necessary for the proper functioning of their respective wholes. in all other aspects they are almost completely dissimilar. so, in summation (that means “in short” by the way. again, don’t hesitate to tell me if this is too much for your tiny raven fan’s head), my original post was NOT an analogy.
um
there were no terrible calls.
in 06, the steelers AND ravens were completely different teams. Ben was a different player and the whole team was injured. We were horrible that year, you act like you guys were the only ones that killed us but we went 8-8 that year. we we shut out by JAX, and just sucked that year. You guys were playing your best football since 2000 and we all know that things have greatly changed since two years ago.
We CAN look at the first matchup and see that the steelers have vastly improved their offensive line and Big Ben is not as beat up in the game earlier. We have had time to mesh together as an O-line and did fairly good against the league’s #2 pass rush. Despite the 5 sacks, there were numerous plays where Big Ben had plenty of time to play.
Also remember that the DICK now has plenty of film on Flacco, and will come after him like there is no tomorrow. Our defense has improved greatly as we have faced top offenses that are ten times better than the Raven’s garbage Offense. They will get shut down on Sunday.
As for offense, we will more than likely struggle but Big Ben is not going to turnover the ball more than once. As we will struggle we will probably get off one or two big plays and after that is done the Ravens defense will crack open a lil bit. He has done a great job of decision making and will take care of the ball.
Remember the ravens have yet to win a close game that was decided by less than 6 points. If it comes to the wire, then we are used to those situations and that rookie QB is going to lose the game for the ravens.
Ben may take some shots but remember that unlike last year, even if he gets knocked out we have a great backup QB who is still better than your starting QB and might be able to do a better or as good of job as our starting QB.

late in the game
when we were trying to come back, the o-line stepped up and didn’t give up any sacks, and actually didn’t have any i believe in the 1st half?
by Bleed-Black&Gold on Dec 9, 2008 5:36 PM EST up reply actions
no i am talking about Dallas
we didn’t give up any sacks in the 1st half, 4 in the 3rd, and only 1 in the 4th.
they had a meltdown in the 3rd but quickly rebounded to finish the game strong.
that was the biggest test of the o-line going against the best pass rush we can find.

Is Willie Parker playin on sunday?
He seems to be bouncing around everyweek. Are u confident in Moore leading your rushing game?
actually
i think i might be more confident in Moore because willie has been hurt and is probably going to be ineffective.
Plus your thugs you have on defense are probably out to hurt everyone so i’d rather have him sit this one out.

Yup
Bounties out for everyone on that offense. Maybe Heinz can lose movement from his neck down for the rest of the game, at least he would still be able to smile, right?
are you aware
that his name is spelled Hines not Heinz? good luck in doing that! maybe you can give us like 11 unneccessary penalties during that time?

One Ravens fan who loves Ward
He plays real tough and on the edge of legal. While it may seem like cheap shots, they’re still legal or the refs would watch him like they do the Ravens players. Everyone knows if he was wearing the purple of the Ravens, we’d love him and the Steelers would be whining like us about him.

Garbage Offense?
Do you mean the 24.3 points we are averaging this season? Good for 12th best in the NFL. Better than Pitt
Do you meant he 316 points we have scored this season? Only 10 teams have scored more points. Better than Pitt
Do you mean the better QB rating that Flacco has over Rufflesburger? 81.3 compared to 80.1. Better than Pitt
Do you mean the 144 yards a game we average running the ball? 5th best in the NFL. Better than Pitt
Some Garbage right there. And go ahead and bring in our schedule, cause I know that is the only comeback you will ever have. Your 10-3 record will be diminished on Sunday. Enjoy your week BUDDY!
lol
yes actually that can have a lot to do with your play but at the same time i have no fear in our offense out scoring yours as that is not that hard to do. We have been scoring when we need to and yeah of course we have a harder schedule but that goes along with some injuries at tailback that limit our running game. If McClain and Mcgee both went out you still think you score those points and Flacco’s rating is good? not nearly.
by Bleed-Black&Gold on Dec 9, 2008 5:43 PM EST up reply actions
injuries are part of the game...
Injuries were a major reason the Ravens went 5-11 last year. This year we have 16 players on IR. Most in the NFL. Our feature back, Willis, has been pretty much non-existent this year yet with Rookie Ray Rice and Beast McClain we still have the 5th ranked rushing offense in the league… not to mention the O-line whose average age is like 26 or something (and that’s only because of a couple of veterans who were brought in due to injuries).. Come on people. Give credit where it is due. This Ravens team has outplayed pretty much everyone’s expectations and is much better than you are giving credit for.
The Steelers obviously have a great defense, but Big Ben is the second most sacked QB in the league. To say that either one of these offenses is going to put up 3 TD on the opposing defense is just ridiculous. It’ll be a hell of a battle, but both teams have been relying on their defense to not only give great field position but to score points too. It may come down to who offense can put ONE touchdown on the board.

also
your offense doesn’t nearly scare me as much as your defense. That defense is ruthless now and you cannot count on more than 14 points out of the raven’s offense and that is being generous, Dallas barely got 13. I believe that we can get some turnovers out of Flacco but it should be a good defensive battle. It is probably going to be a game of mistakes and close and right now we have proven to win close games.
by Bleed-Black&Gold on Dec 9, 2008 5:47 PM EST up reply actions
garbage offense = great defense
How many times do your defense score for you? I know, know, the defense have saved us the past two games but that is atypical steelers defense. Usually our defense doesn’t score. Usually your defense does. Ed Reed is widely known for his knack of finding the endzone. So boast all your points you score but they’re inflated. The running game however has been great for you unlike ours because of an poor oline. Flacco does have a better rating than Rothlisburger but not by much and ben’s play has improved the last four games making up for the previous ones in which he stunk, remember this, Ben’s rookie year, late in the season he started to fade and was truly horrible in the playoffs, why? Because the tempo gets a notch higher in playoff type games and rookies aren’t used to it. Also Rookies get worn out, look at how much football Flacco has had to play within the last year. He had to go threw a playoffs then combines, then OTAs then practice, then preseason and now a whole season of football at the NFL level. So I’d would be worried that he doesn’t have a drop off. He may and he may not we’ll see.
by tannofsteel84 on Dec 9, 2008 6:38 PM EST up reply actions
You realize flacco has scored a TD 8 games in a row?
Tied for a streak with Joe Montana (of rookie QBs going consecutive games with a TD) right now I believe…
There is a reason he was Offensive Rookie of the month of November
I brought up a list somewhere but I believe our offense has been good for at least 2 TDs a game lately, which is more than we could say for previous years. Anyway like Malor said, that a good thing that our D is scoring.

you made my point, there is nothing wrong with defense scoring, just don’t pretend its your offense doing it like Mr. Malor was trying to do.
also as good as this defense is 7 points won’t win this game lol. I say at least 14 maybe 10.

i just said "at least 2 TDs"
{…wonders if you are reading the same thing as what i wrote or something else…}
So if Captain Flacco is scoring at least one TD, and McClain is scoring at least one too thats 14…
As a team we only have 6 Defensive (5 INT, 1 Fum) touchdowns…. Now mind you very often our defense helped get the field position that resulted in those TDs but not always… Our offense has been doing a good deal of work on their own.

Actually
this Ravens team is a lot closer to the 13-3 2006 team than the 5-11 2007 team from last year. The difference was that we couldn’t overcome the injuries to our secondary in 2007 as our QB was ineffective and showed his age. Now we are healthier and able to have better reserves, plus the guy we drafted as our QB of the future is our QB of the present. You should be able to relate to the rookie QB success.
Rexx
yeah
and Big Ben didn’t win many if not any games for us, he just didn’t mess up and thats why i am not too worried about him winning the game for you guys. PLUS in 06 i swear steve mcnair was just like a mercenary whose sole job is to defeat the Steelers. At Tennessee he always found a way to beat us and made some unbelievable plays against us in 06 in PIT and in BAL.
Flacco is a suprisingly good QB but you saw what happens to even some of the best QB’s when they try to make many plays against the Steeler D this year.

I’d take romo over a lot of QBs in this league so yes i am referring to him, he does or did have like the top qb rating at a point.
Also Malone, in 06 you guys aren’t the only team that pummeled us, so don’t get too confident over a team that you beat 2 years ago that barely pulled 8 games out of their ass. we were horrible, remember when we crushed you guys last year in Pitt? I know you remember Ed Reed getting f’ed up by ward and harrison, he got owned so many times in that game. yeah Big ben got hit by scott in 06 but ours is more recent. so we can go to the past and we hold the series so whatever you say in the past doesn’t matter because we beat yall more than yall have beaten us.

Nice post
It should be a very fun game to watch. I am still afraid of the possible DPOY, James Harrison. As much as I hate the Steelers and hate Harrison, the man is a straight up beast. I have heard analysts comparing the way he has been playing this season to FREAKING LAWRENCE TAYLOR! Like holy shit! But he seems to always get past our tackles with that swim move and might get to Flacco for another 2.5 sacks and forced fumble. He single handily won you the week 4 match up on MNF for you guys with that forced fumble and Woodley TD.
I think if we can hold Pitt to less than 3 sacks and can control the clock for about 5 minutes more than they do, this should be our game. We took you guys all the way to overtime last game and you won the game with 2 plays in 15 seconds. I do not see this one going to OT however. We have OUR crowd on our side now and you can expect Rex Ryan and crew to take advantage of that banged up off. line. Oh yea, watch out for Ravens special teams player of the year, Jameel McClain. That man has 2 safeties, one blocked punt, and got a partially blocked punt last game.
Have we bred another elite line back guys? I think so.
23-13 Ravens
Ravens by 10???
Wow… I’ll be surprised if either team gets 10 points in this game. My guess is whatever team gets a turnover more in field goal range wins this. Final score: 9-6 Steelers.
And yes James Harrison is ridiculously good this year. Fun man to watch. As good as Joey Porter in his prime without the annoying mouth.
13-10 Ravens
With the Steelers’ lone TD coming from the D and the Ravens lone TD coming late in the game (a la the nail in the coffin drive vs. the Redskins), and two of the 3 turnovers the Ravens force leading to 2 FG’s.

REMEMBER
that the statistic that we haven’t won since 03 is mightily skewed!
07 – the game didn’t matter to us and we rested players
06 – we just down right sucked, 8-8 (more horrible losses than the one to a good BAL team) also we were 4-6 going into that game……wow
05 – Tommy Maddox(yes i said the forbidden name) played most of that game
04 – once again he who shall not be named started and played most of the game
03 – we won
the statistic that we haven’t won since 03 is very skewed especially because we haven’t played them with a meaning with the team we have now.

It’s especially funny to me because there’s no notice of what the Ravens teams were looking like during some of those years, like in 2007 where we had about 30 players on IR and started Troy Smith, Musa Smith, Devard Darling, Quinn Sypniewski, David Pittman, Nick Griesen, Dwan Edwards, etc.
Our team in that game had as many starters not playing and as much to play for as the Steelers did.
i said the teams were different. did you catch that?
by Bleed-Black&Gold on Dec 9, 2008 6:20 PM EST up reply actions
well, fine, but this you haven’t beat us at home since 2003 is a skewed statistic is such crap. We’re both much better than we were last year, but the Ravens have improved more than the Steelers have from last year.
The Ravens are not easy to beat at home when they are playing well.
of course
not saying that its going to be easy but i will say that we are a lot better than those previous teams that lost in baltimore since 2003, plus the game has not been this important for a long time. It is not crap but all that i mentioned was true and just because you have improved more doesn’t necessarily mean that they are now better than the steelers.
Nobody is easy to beat ANYWHERE when they are playing well, come on now. I was just pointing out that the fact that we haven’t won in Baltimore since 03 has no affect on the outcome of the game on Sunday. You guys are good at home and are 5-1? there. That has nothing to do with the outcomes of the games from past years, THIS YEAR you guys are good at home and that’s all that matters. The fact i am trying to say now is that you guys are good at home, real good, but not unbeatable. Also that the fact that we haven’t won there recently has no impact on this year’s game considering that both teams have changed tremendously.
by Bleed-Black&Gold on Dec 9, 2008 8:13 PM EST up reply actions
when it comes down to it yeah we haven’t won in Baltimore since 03, just letting everyone know that those teams were different and like someone said above, we need to focus on the present not the past because both teams were different

No nightmares
I dunno about you but i think the NFL (no fun leauge) is going to be watching this game closely. After the bounty thing, you can bet you might see a lot of flags in this game. There is no way a hit like ben took in 2006 at balt is going to go unflagged, the nfl rules have changed so that you just can’t do it anymore. We have suffered the end of many penalties for this rule change this year too. I was scared out of my pants about this game but I’m not so much now. Ben has adapted to the way people have tried to attack him and is getting away the ball quickly and avoids most blitz. Last week would have been more like the eagles game if he hadn’t adjusted. Balt haven’t been a sack machine this year so I don’t expect 9 like ya’ll had two years ago. You will get at least 1 or 2 but hopefully thats it. I am scared that ya’ll will run on us. The last couple of weeks dallas and the patriots have showed the league how to run on us, Spread us out and do draw plays. With balt this could pose a major problem. Hopefully that was just because we respected dallas and the patriots passing game so much. We need to stop that this game in order to have a chance. If we do I think our offense can find some form of life on the defense from a small period of time. I really respect your defense but if they are no turnovers you get no points from the defense. So we must stop the run from the spread formation, pass on your D and not turn the ball over and I think we’ll be fine.
I can’t see what was possibly dirty about the hit Bart put on Ben in 2006. I know it upset a lot of Steelers fans and I understand why but… Ben had the ball, Bart hit him in the chest, led with his shoulder and there was no helmet to helmet contact, it was simply a blown assignment by Willie Parker that caused Bart to hit Ben really really really fast. I can’t see how this is a fine-able hit.
But I do expect to see the refs try to take over this game unfortunately.
well
i think most of us weren’t upset about the hit, just that Ben was hurt. Natural reaction. But he did drive him into the ground which is considered ‘illegal’ now. Just like the hit i think Justin Tuck or the patriots DT wilfork put on someone, he drove them into the ground and i think thats what they are flagging now, if i am not mistaken i think Harrison was fined for that earlier this season and flagged.

There was nothing illegal about that hit! Bart Scott did not lead with his helmet and made a clean tackle on him. If that would get a flag, I would murder the whole ref staff.
bart scott
hits like a girl in any case. you should look to ward to see how real men hit in football. you could even ask bart himself to verify the veracity of that fact.
he drove him into the ground
thats why its a fine, you can’t do that to QBs any more in this league, you can’t argue with that

I also believe that the Ravens Offense is better then the steelers but, the steelers D is better then ours. The Steelers defense creates so many oppurtunies for the offense. Pitt. seem to always start somewhere near the 40 yard line. Rather that be the opponent’s 40 our their own 40. Also, Pitt. D can also score from turnovers as you can see from the dallas game. This game wwill come down to who makes the least mistakes. When Baltimore played in Pittsburgh last time, Flacco fumbled the ball and on a sack and that changed the momentem for the rest of the game. It’s going to be a great game for the type of fan who likes an old school Smash-mouth type game.
FEAR THE NEVERMORE DEFENSE!!!!!!!!!!!!
you have not been watchin the steelers
The cowboys game was a misnomer. We normally do not start at our opponent’s 40. i don’t know where you get that from but it was only true in the cowboys game, usually the other team is always starting on our 40 or the 50 because of our poor punting. Our defense only has 16 takeaways this year. 9 or 10 in the last two games! so in 11 games our defense had only 6 takeaways and 5 of them were polomalu’s picks, our defense normally doesn’t score for us, unlike the ravens, but when they do we’re impossible to beat. This will be a close one though.

it isn’t really that much better. i would say that your o-line is better hence your running game is better, but our passing has more weapons than yours and we have a better QB despite the numbers. it is really too hard to tell but i will take ward, holmes, washington, sweed, and miller over………………….???who do yall have? mason, clayton, heap? they aren’t bad tho

I really have to believe our offense is better then you guys. We all know Big Ben is one of the top 5 QBs in the league when he is at his best, he just isnt playing like it. Also, our weapons are very simialr to yours. Mason and Ward are to vets who get open with great route running and not blazing speed. Ward is more physical then mason and Mason seems to be open more then Ward. Homles and Clayton are both guys who can get open witht there speed. Homles is undoughtably faster then Clayton but Mark runs better routes and also has better hands. Heap and Miller are very identical. Both Block very well and both are excellent recievers. I would say heap has the edge because he has been in the league longer and probly knows a few more tricks to get open or block someone. It is very debatable to say who has better weapons. I believe are better at going down the field with a 9-10 playy drive and scoring.

Nate the great
so who is like nate washington? I hope you overlooked him like most defensive coordinators but this man can kill you, 4 games in a row he had bombs of 50+ yards for scores and almost made it 5 but it was called back in the giants game. Also if ben throws the ball earlier he has one again in the pats game. So dont forget about this. Hopefully we’ll see his affects in the game

that may be true
but i did do some research ben is playin a lot better. these are ben’s numbers in the past 4 games i dunno the QB rating but the numbers aren’t bad
84/137 755 yards 4 tds 1 int
and before the dallas game there was only 1 sack.
don’t bank on ben having a bad game, he is getting on his game and i don tthink in crunch time he gonna fall off but who knows

Here's the difference between the offenses
The Ravens offense has made the big plays, using both trickery and just plain great playcalling at the right moment. There have been so many more long TD plays by us this season compared to last. I think we had a total of something like 3 plays OVER 20 yards last year. Now we’ve had a bunch of game breakers. The Steelers just move the ball. They make the little plays that keep the chains moving until they end up on your doorstep and then put it in the end zone. The Ravens also have a time consuming ball controlling offense. Therefore, I don’t see the Steelers making the big play, just a bunch of frustrating (for us) little ones. However, the Ravens are a threat to score on a big or trick play from anywhere on the field and to me that makes us more dangerous this year, offensively.
Rexx
Holmes and Nate
Those are our big play guys. Granted you probably have to have watched the steelers every second of every game to notice it but whenever they do a big play its one of these two guys making them. Nate went 3-4 straight games catching 50+ yard bombs for TDs in the season and almost extended to another game but his touchdown got called back for holding against the Giants. And you did see holmes bomb against dallas. So while we don’t consistently have the big play (I blamed that on Bruce Arians ya’lls offensive coordinator is better than ours) it is still there. I expect to see it too at least an attempt. Ben loves to try the deep ball. Ed Reed is good but everyone is human.

that was mainly on streak routes, and i’m not worried about him because all it takes is for him to be looking in the backfield when ben does that pump, if he jumps, its a deep ball going over his head.

I am never going to get over his comment about Mendenhall, especially as a veteran, you never wish harm to another player, it is just a game. Why would you brag about hurting another player talking about ’he’s done, not for the game, he is done (for the season).’

Everyone knows Ray wants to hurt someone when he hits them. That doesn’t make him a dirty player. He wants to set a tone for the game and strike fear in opposing running backs. Also, when did Ray say that quote? I never heard it. Could you post a link to it if possible? Thanks.

This is not sour grapes its reality. I used to respect ray but you cant respect a guy bragging about ending someone’s season. I understand setting a tone but no one should want to see anyone get hurt. You didn’t here ward bragging about “He’s done” after the keith rivers hit. They put a bounty out on us. I still don’t understand how the nfl didn’t do anything about this. Its clear what he said. they do play not to just beat you but to hurt you. i wouldn’t hate the ravens so much if you didn’t condone illegal activities, like bounties, which they are in the NFL. Play by the rules, if someone gets hurt so be it, but the league has no room for people who play to ends someone’s season/career, play to win thats it, injures will happen its apart the game so why worry about it. Do you feel like the only way to beat us is to take the best players out? Play us straight up. I was dissapointed last week marion barber didnt play cause he was hurt. why cuz i didnt want those cryboys to have any excuses. You should feel the same about us. You want to beat us while we are full-strength at the top of out games because then you can say you are the truely better team. Right? or do you want to win against our second string?

Cough Cough, Joey Porter
That was some dirty shit when he cheap shot an already injured Heap. Or how about the Browns Andra Davis gouging Willis McGahee’s eyes twice in a lopsided Ravens victory.
Of Course, I want to beat your best guys, and the Ravens do too. The NFL is a physical game and its kill or be killed. The Ravens talk a lot, but on the field they compete. The NFL is too tough a league for players to be focused on injuring opposing players. Look at the film from this year, and I don’t think you will see any more cheap shots from the Ravens then other franchises. They get a rep as such since they have been blowing opposing offenses off the ball for so long. Of course teams will make excuses when they play our D.
John Harbaugh has totally changed the culture, and the team is far more disciplined then they ever were under Billick.
Yes, our D wants to hit the opposing players so hard that they can’t return to the game, but they want to do it in a legal fashion. Last I checked, a bone crushing hit is the goal for a LB meeting a RB in the hole. If the RB gets hurt on a legal hit, so be it. That’s why our guys put in so much work in the off season. So they won’t be the ones missing the rest of the game.
i hope nothing but the worst for you ravens. no playoffs, nothing. I hope you lose sunda and then lose in dallas and the pats and jets win out .
I wouldn’t want it any other way. There are not too many true rivalries left, and I’ll be damned if a Steelers fan ever wished well to the Ravens or vice versa. The mutual hatred adds something extra to our games and I would not want to have it any other way.
Tanofsteel84 and others…. Thanks for stopping by Baltimore Beatdown. I appreciate the civil trash talk between our two sides. Its only Wednesday and the rivalry is already smoldering.
I’m pretty sure most of the steeler fans dont mind good bone jarring hits. Thats what our defense is all about too. I have the problem with being excited about hurting some one. If Ray Lewis breaks Mendy’s shoulder and doesn’t stand over him and gloat i have no problem with the play. Its the enjoyment that he got from ending someones season that i have a problem with.
but Ray always gloats
after he lays the smackdown… Again this is football not badminton… Big hits are expected…
If the NFL commission gets any more ridiculous with these penalties i’m switching to Rugby….

Ray also had absolutely no idea the kids shoulder was broken. I don’t think anyone said he enjoyed ending someone’s season. I don’t recall Ray gloating over Mendy, and that seems a little out of character for him, but I won’t call you a liar.
I do remember Bart Scott jumping up and down after laying out Roethlesberger, and not seeing that he was down, and Suggs giving him a big shove to shut up. That’s on Youtube if you want to see it.
I also remember Hines Ward gloating after a cheap shot on Ed Reed, jumping up and down with a grin on his face when Ed Reed couldn’t get up.
WHAT? NO EXCUSES
no um if you looked at the link, your boy ray ray told sports illustrated that! This is after it was confirmed that he was out for the season! He knew what his hit did and he was proud of knocking him out more than he wanted to win the game. That hit should mean nothing after the game when they took that Big L.
Hines was gloating during the game, afterwards it was nothing and he doesn’t make comments to the press about how good a hit he did on someone.
Ray Lewis has no class, is a thug, and should be in jail where he belongs but its okay because they can try and knockout people if they want, we are going to try and win the game.

Ward is classy, Ray Ray……..not so much (at least after the whole Mendenhall thing)

Ray Effectivley Ended Eddie Georges Career
When he ripped the ball out of his hands in the playoffs and returned it for a TD. The Ravens went on to win the SB and Eddie George was never the same player again.
Wat makes Ray a dirty player?

is just the term that came to mind. Classless player is what i should have used, he has no class. He doesn’t care as much about winning the game as he does about knocking someone out. yeah i get your drift on that, but Ray gets caught up in his motivation and it just flows like a preacher on sunday…at least it was a clean hit…but hovering over the injured is not the best thing. i respect running backs more than any other position. they have to take it on the chin win or lose over and over again. i remember Takeo Spikes just giving up when he played the ravens and would leave the field. the bengals killed that guy and he never got his career going.

Talking bout Big Hits.
You all keep mentioning Ray and his punishing hits ETC…. Thats a HUGE part of football…
For example when someone comes across the middle you want to knock them out… So next time they coming across the middle they arent focused, being they not focused on the ball, or too focused on you and miss out on there assignment. Big Hits are football.
Those hits set the tone for the game and keep offensive players weary and on their toes… If you dont like big hits go watch Golf or Badminton or something with a lil less contact.
Shoot, and they wonder why Rugby players always say Football is a soft sport… smh

ray could never play for the steelers, our organization has the most class and do not keep problem players who ask for too much money, don’t know how to act, or who don’t respect their coaches, or who lack the class and integrity that the steelers organization represent. That’s why hines doesn’t brag about hits in interviews especially after he knows the damage he has done. He plays to win the game but it seems as if Ray is just as satisfied to hurt someone. Roethlisberger
He is a doofus and we will make him look bad this week. He will definately throw an interception or two. When you look at all the matchups between these two teams the only X Factor comes down to Quarterback play. Roethlisberger is a dope and as long as we can not only get pressure on him but get him on the ground we will cause him to start making dumb mistakes.
Roethlisberger last 5 games 4touchdowns 4interceptions pretty mediocre.
Frustrating Roethlisberger
Not us frustrating him. But I can’t stand how he is the best in the league as a QB who is able to shrug off tacklers and still make the play. How many times was he almost sacked and then he escapes by throwing the would-be tackler to the wayside and then scrambling a few steps and hitting Hines Ward for the first down? I used to think McNabb was the best at that and he’s still good, but Big Ben is the best and I hate him for that, as well as other reasons!
Rexx
nice job
but if you count the 4 wins its 4 tds and 1 int, even brett farve has 5 int games, you can make numbers look any way, the point is how is going to play sunday, he threw 1 pick against you last game and that ball slipped out his hand, he threw 0 picks against the 2nd best sack accumulating team last sunday
so considering that yall are the 11 best sack accumulating team maybe he won’t be under as much pressure who knows. Yea Ben is a meat head, but he’s our meat head and wouldnt trade him for any QB in the league, you should feel the same about flacco but he isn’t a meat head

Sack numbers can be misleading too, though...
You have to look at pressure as a whole. That takes into account hurries and knockdowns as well as sacks. The Ravens, although not actually tackling the quarterback, seem to put as much pressure on the quarterback as anyone else in football. Although I haven’t been able to find an official “hurries” statistic I’m sure the Ravens would be near the top in such a category. Just look at the first pickle Campbell threw last week. Suggs put pressure on the QB (and actually hit his arm) and caused the ball to float so Reed could pick it off. It wasn’t officially recorded as a sack or “hurry” but the pressure directly caused that interception. Back to my point… sacks is a deceptive statistic.
Kevbo: [to George Sherrill] George, you look a lot like Vin Diesel...
Flatbill: Let's get somethin' straight... Vin Diesel looks like me.
-From "The Making of Orioles Magic"
They’re only misleading if you assume that teams with a lot of sacks aren’t getting pressure on other downs, which is rarely true. Typically teams that get pressure get sacks. That’s great that the ravens get pressure, but getting pressure with an inability to get sacks (not that they are total slackers in this department) is not something to gloat about.
It kind of is
if they’re doing it at a higher rate than other teams… It forces the offense’s hand. I wish there was somewhere to find the stats for all pressure. If you can find it let me know.
Kevbo: [to George Sherrill] George, you look a lot like Vin Diesel...
Flatbill: Let's get somethin' straight... Vin Diesel looks like me.
-From "The Making of Orioles Magic"
Defenses that get their hands on the ball get interceptions.
Defenses that get pressure get sacks.
Maybe math_geek knows where to get stats on hurries, but I don’t. You’re really grasping for straws though, which is too bad because the ravens D does plenty of things well and doesn’t need excuses.
I'm not grasping...
just saying that sacks aren’t the only way to measure pressure on a QB.
Defenses that get their hands on the ball get interceptions.
Defenses that get pressure get sacks.
Obviously you can’t get a pick without your hands getting on the ball. Don’t you think pressure helps a team get their hands on the ball.
Again… pressure can lead to picks.
Kevbo: [to George Sherrill] George, you look a lot like Vin Diesel...
Flatbill: Let's get somethin' straight... Vin Diesel looks like me.
-From "The Making of Orioles Magic"
Of course it can help lead to picks. The last interception against dallas probably was induced by woodley about to tackle romo.
That doesn’t mean that the ravens are better at pressure because they don’t get sacks, or that pressure is better than sacks. Getting sacks is better than getting pressure, but getting sacks implies that you are also getting pressure and consistently generating more of it than a team not getting sacks.
I didn't say
the Ravens are better at getting pressure BECAUSE they don’t get sacks. I’m simply saying that more consistent pressure can be as beneficial or more beneficial than not getting pressure on as many plays but when getting pressure creating more sacks. On any given play, would you rather get pressure and get a sack, or get pressure and cause an interception? Obviously a major benefit from getting sacks is the wear and tear on the QB. But given the option, I’d take the ball back before I’d take a 10 yard gain in field position.

-From "The Making of Orioles Magic"
I don’t see how a team would get a sack without pressure.
I will admit I’d rather have an int than a sack, but I think I’d really prefer a defense that gets 1.75 sacks and an int than one who just gets a sack and an int.
You’ll probably say that’s not an option though, just like the ravens.
Alright, enough ravens bashing for now, I’ll go post something nice at the bottom.
Obivously I'd take more sacks too
but, Pit has 16 int, Bal has 22. Pit has 45 sacks, Bal has 28. Would you rather 17 more sacks than the Ravens in a game, or would you rather have the ball 6 more times than the Ravens in a game.

You ravens fans always like to leave out the forced fumbles. The ravens have recovered 26 turnovers, the steelers 25. I’ll take the sacks, thanks.

Kevbo: [to George Sherrill] George, you look a lot like Vin Diesel...

Just to reiterate...
Off the blitz, Baltimore, which has the second-ranked defense in the league behind Pittsburgh’s, has collected just 14 sacks — a sack percentage of just 7.2. That’s a fairly low percentage. Indeed, the Ravens have just 28 sacks this season. That ranks just 11th in the league.
But that doesn’t tell the whole story. When the Ravens blitz, quarterbacks have managed a rating of just 59.3, which is third in the league (behind only the Titans and the Bears). So, although the sacks are not coming in eye-popping numbers, the quarterbacks are seeing the Ravens’ ferocious rush, and it clearly has had the desired impact. When the Ravens have blitzed, they have collected eight interceptions, the second-highest total off the blitz in the league.
The Talking Heads/Pens @ ESPN.
Kevbo: [to George Sherrill] George, you look a lot like Vin Diesel...

-From "The Making of Orioles Magic"
That’s great, but QB rating doesn’t even take into consideration FF or sacks, because in most (and i assume the one they are using) sacks/FF’s don’t count as a pass attempt. So every time (almost twice as much) the QB is sacked/FF it doesn’t affect their precious QB rating. How do you think opposing QBs rates would look against the steelers if 7 or so FF were factored in like interceptions into the rates, or sacks?
I can’t really buy your argument that your blitz is all that “ferocious” (though it will be against our line). Over the course of all of your games the QBs have a rating of 62 vs. 59 for blitzing. I don’t know what percentage of time the ravens blitz or what the QB rating is when the ravens don’t blitz, but that would help determine how important blitzing actually is for the ravens. Ditto on the interceptions. While 8 interceptions is great, the ravens have collected 14 while not blitzing. Other determining factors are when they blitz, as 3rd and long situations not only invite a blitz but also tend to lead to turnovers due to the playcalling.

…we lost to the same teams you did (Giants, Indy) and although we got owned and you just lost, we lost on the road and you failed to defend your own crib. Which hurts more- watching it from your living room or seeing it in person? Ouch!

You guys are really going to want to beat the steelers and lock up the division if your only excuse is that you suck against good teams on the road.
The vegas swing for home vs. away is 3 points for a reason.
What's your excuse?
You suck against good teams at home?

The steelers don’t need an excuse right now by virtue of them leading the division virtue of a win over the ravens.
Maybe next monday I’ll be making them, but for now the excuse-fest is clearly in the ravens court.
Honestly...
how many games did you have the Ravens winning this year?

If you go way back at BTSC most of us were expecting the ravens to be right behind the steelers. We also expected the steelers to finish the season 10-6, hopefully we’ll do better.
Ok.
Not many of us had the Ravens more than 6. So we don’t need to make any excuses. The fact that we’re in the driver’s seat for a playoff berth is beyond awesome for us.

I’m a bit spoiled as a steelers fan and expect the team not to have a losing season.
I can see why ravens fans would go into the season so pessimistically.
I'm not a fan of that slight...
The pessimism came from a rookie QB, Headcoach, Young O-line, injured feature back, injured secondary… am I missing anything? You’d have been pessimistic as well.

I missed something
So you want to discount the fact that you got blown out – twice. Doesn’t matter where it’s at. Pitt is 5-1 on the road this year. Good teams when on the road no matter what. You can say we didn’t play anyone but then that would negate your defense about your schedule. So hopefully we can make it 6-1 on the road this year this weekend but cause the opposition (very good teams I might add) squeaked by a win at home you’d take that over getting blown out? What kinda twisted world you live in? lol I take losing by 7 anytime over losing by 28. Maybe its me thats strange I dunno. We can at least point to a play or two and say if that doesn’t happen we win the game, if you lose by 28 well you just point at ya team and say of THAT was another team we’d might have won.

which is why
you were favored over us by three when we played in your house earlier this season.

Didnt you guys lose to the eagles?
The team that we absolutely embarrassed. Yea, so………
You have to hate losing more than you love winning
I could take one out of the ravens “playbook” and say that you played them at home and we played them away. I don’t feel the need to make excuses though, something about being 10-3 does that.

Steelers 6 -4
Eagles 10
Eagles 7
Ravens 36 +29
hmm… 3 points huh?

It’s 3 points because that evens out over time to the closest approximation of what home field advantage gives. Comparing mutual victories/defeats is stupid. The browns beat the giants, so should bookies now give the browns the edge every game?
No.
Comparing mutual victories/defeats is stupid
It must not be too terribly stupid, the NFL uses it as a tie-breaker.

touche...
It’s been fun but I have to get ready for some schmoozing at a company christmas party. I’m sure we’ll discuss this game some more later… Until then, enjoy.

All in all…
The ravens D is great, the ravens O is good. The ravens have no glaring weaknesses – they have overcome injuries, huge personnel changes, staffing, etc. to become a dominate figure in the AFC north race / playoffs.
The steelers D is great, the steelers 0 sucks. The steelers defense has no glaring weaknesses. A 2nd grader could figure out a way to beat the steelers offense. They manage to pull off games through determination, luck, and a lot of help from their D.
The ravens are by far a more complete team. The only thing that matters is the win though, which is why this sunday will be interesting even though I think the matchup favors the ravens. Even if the ravens offense was as bad in every other category as the steelers, they still commit less turnovers.
Actually both teams have the same amount of giveaways...
18.

Steelers O does not suck
Yeah, they’re not the Terry Bradshaw Steelers, but they still find a way to move the ball and put at least one more point on the board than the opponents. I’d rather go 16-0 and win each game by one than….

Flacco
Joe Flacco doesnt drive motorcycles head first into cars.
Joe Flacco also has strong internal organs.
Joe Flacco isnt stupid like old dumb dumb roethlisberger.
Flacco
Joe Flacco isn’t the youngest QB to ever win a Superbowl.
Joe Flacco didn’t start his career with 14 consecutive victories in his first 14 starts.
Hell, Joe Flacco hasn’t even won a playoff game. How can you even say he is close to someone with Roethlisberger’s ability?
WE DEY!!!!!
Steeler fan myself.
I’m looking towards an amazing game. I expect we’ll both enjoy a real defensive grind out. Wish you guys the best of luck.
Steelers take it; 9 to 3
