Around the NFL

Pacman Jones suspended: The guy just does not get it. I realize that this issue was not even pursued by the cops, but when the League Commissioner says "zero tolerance" you try a little harder to behave. He didn't and while his suspension is listed at four games, it's an indefinite suspension with a minimum four game suspension. He should be gone for the rest of the year, released by Dallas and not signed by anyone. Then he can go to all the strip clubs that he wants and deal with the cops as a civilian, as opposed to a so called football star.

Tony Romo out: Romo's broken pinky finger should keep him out four weeks and miss three games, including their Bye week. Brad Johnson will be a calming less mistake-prone replacement and you might actually see a better result, similar to Kerry Collins in Tennessee.

Roy Williams to the Cowboys: Personally I don't get it. The price paid (a first, third, sixth and seventh) is extremely high, reminding me the picks traded for Hershel Walker and Ricky Williams. The guy might be talented, but the picks might have helped more in the long run. However, the long run may not be in Jerry JOnes' mind when he pulled the trigger. Both TO and Williams will have to be patient with Brad Johnson the next three weeks and then they can complain about not getting enough passes thrown to them. Maybe they should add Keyshawn Johnson as well. My opinion was that I loved the new kid, Miles Austin, who looks like he was on his way to stardom until pushed back on the depth chart. Perhaps the Ravens can go get him for a song.

Redskins sign Shaun Alexander: Not too sure why, other than the Jim Zorn connection. A lot of other teams could have benefited from his veteran presence at backup. Even the Cowboys need another RB with the loss of Felix Jones. With Willis McGahee perhaps the most fragile RB in the league (injured EVERY game; ow, my eye, my ribs, my knee,....wahhh!), even the Ravens could have justified getting him.

Eli Manning injured: He hurt his chest in the horrible loss to the Browns, which killed me, since the Cleveland fans will be hard to live with the next few games unless they get put back in their place the next few weeks. Gosh, I can't believe I will be rooting for the Redskins to win this week! Manning will play this week, but he looked like he did in the Giants loss to the Vikings last year, when Manning threw three interceptions for TD's and then went on a run to the Super Bowl. I guess every team is given a pass for a stinker at least once per year. Hear that, Ravens?

Tony Gonzalez not traded: Disappointed for one of, if not the best TE in NFL history. Chiefs' President Carl Peterson owed it to Tony to get the best possible deal for the aging superstar and trade him before the deadline, even if he didn't get what he wanted. It would have been a nice tribute to all Gonzalez has done for the franchise. Now they'll get even less after the season. Too bad the nice guy doesn't get the chance to go to the postseason with a contender.
